I have this on laserdisc boxset, I must dig it out and watch it again.

Your best bet is to use the flash-scan method, then you can run the projector at normal speed.
Basically design an LED pulse circuit, replace the projector light with the LED source.
You 'flash' the LED light source 24 times per second, remove the shutter completely from the projector.
A hall effect sensor on the shaft of the projector will act as the trigger for the light source and the camera.
An enlarger lens reversed is the best quality lens for this sort of work, and is easy to adapt to the task.
That would be a great find, but don't play it again if you can avoid it. Tapes that age degrade radically with each play.
It would be best that the next play through be for capturing purposes if possible.
I've had good results in delaying the VS for smelly films using a plasticiser made in Queensland.
Nothing else I have tried helps.
I have a VHD player and high end capture equipment if anyone wants any captures done.
So what is the most current/best release of this?
I have gotten confused, it looks awesome and I'd love to watch it. Just not sure which is which anymore.
Well, at least there is now a chance, they might not release an OUT, but Lucas *definitely* wasn't going to.
I think there is a good chance of the OUT coming, well, out on Bluray now.
Why?
1) Disney is litigous, but it would be difficult to crack down when there is a long history of fan-edits etc. being allowed. But they will still want to protect their property, how could they make it palatable to bring litigation? By...
2) Releasing the OUT on BD. Disney hates leaving money on the table, and an OUT release would help fund Ep7/8/9. It would also leave little excuse for 'archiving' Star Wars if they release the OUT. They can say job done, now anyone who is capturing the film has no need to, and if you do we will sue your arses off.
So I reckon we have a reasonable shot at an OUT release, or at least a release that just has the SE additions removed but keeps the various cleanups and recomps etc.
Isn't there a colorbar signal at the end of the JSC and SWE laserdiscs?
Couldn't you just calibrate to that, or is it off somehow?
So are these preservations of the SE laserdiscs, or of the TV broadcasts?
None of them. If you compare them to a print, they are all off. The SC is in the correct spectrum but the saturation is way too low and the colour is way off in some areas. The THX laserdisc releases are closer to correct saturation, but the tint is off. The bootleg tapes are also not all that close. The PAL THX ones are closer than the NTSC ones.
The only reliable source is a print, anything else and you are only matching to the telecine colourist's choices of the day.
Thanks, I'll start the search for it!
Can anyone tell me which PAL laserdisc titles (Star Wars related or not) have test patterns on them, or if there was ever a version of Video Essentials or similar for PAL?
Negative1, drop me a PM, I'd be happy to help you out with your PCs.
