i have done a version 2.0 with the best quality sebastian shaw footage i could find and a 6.1 dts-hd master audio track added

if anyone is interested just let me know and i could post it (you would need a player capable of playing the hd sound tho, i.e. powerdvd, total media theatre or burned to blu)

Is the sync any better on it? With all due respect, it's a bit off in several places.

ha ha no probs! plays fine here can u pinpoint where its off?

i know "its gonna be close" is a bit out

i had alot of problems with the fact that the 5.1 track was 29.97fps and the blu-ray footage is 23.97fps!

Can I ask where you got the DTS HD MA track? thanks.

i created it from 5.1 track using the dts encoder unfortunately 6.1 is as high as i can go with it (the more channels the better! im running an 11.4 system at the moment and it sounds fantastic when run through it) like i said the dts version was purely for my own entertainment but thought i would share it :)

I just finished doing exactly this using the blurays.  Only issue aside from special edition changes is some scenes and colors not being exact representations of the theatrical releases of any of the films is the end sequence from Last a Crusade.  The credits begin to roll before the shot on the demo is set to end.  I working that out now.  I'll do another edit using Harmy's despecialized footage.  So far I have the 5.1 mix from the DVD release and I'm capturing the two channel from my laserdisc.  Honestly though, even with the special edition shots, it's really a great home theater demo.

 glad im not alone :)

It was made available in 720p on THX's Facebook page, but unfortunately it was highly-compressed (and had switched audio channels, IIRC). Let me find the thread...

great minds think alike! it was that post on facebook that finally gave me the impetus to do it myself if that was the best version they could put out with all their resources it was unlikely i would ever see a remastered 1080p blu-ray quality version :(

I loved the THX Wow dvd too.

How will you be achieving this? Up-scaling the original or cutting together hd sources to match the original?

Plus a little word of warning you cant post links in these forums.

i have been frantically editing the blu-rays to get the best quality, i know its not the purist thing as im losing the OT goodness (i might one day do a version using the OT upscales) but this was more a personal project for my home theater that i thought some might like to see

One of my favourite home theater demos (and actually the first i ever saw) was the THX WOW! it was initially only available to THX certified installers in the USA for them to show to the customer after all the kit was installed to give them the wow factor, it later became available on a THX demo dvd which was great but was still of only dvd quality albeit with a 5.1 track

i love WOW and still use it in my setup at home but… i wanted it in HD! It is very unlikely to ever be released in HD officially so i tried to do it myself

it should be ready over the next few days, im not sure on the file size yet and i may play around with the sound formats but if anyone wants to see it ill be sure to post it wherever is best 😃

here is the original non HD version incase you never saw it

Star Wars on Blu in 2011?
Time

its some ILM'ers playing with footage on their lunch breaks and if lucky enough what they do gets shown to george on occasion and then if its passed by him as a "neat little idea" i.e. hayden as a ghost its a done deal or at least thats how it was done around the time of the dvd's (a little fun fact the footage of anakin as a ghost was actually shot and scheduled for the episode 3 shoot it may look like a simple outtake was used but actually took a while to setup and shoot! and still ended up looking like it was done by an intern on a lunch break)

2 words

3D blu-ray (or is that 3 words) i bet there is no star wars release until the 3D versions are completed then shown theatrically for the 35th anniversary then there will be the blu release by then 3D will either be passe or the norm (in terms of unavoidable when buying a new tv or blu-ray player) star wars only comes out on new formats when saturation has been proved unfortunately

sorry to dig up digital yoda again but other than seeing it in the concert i just noticed the first official confirmation of it

on the "making of star wars in concert" show the epilogue has them saying when george watched the concert one of his remarks was that they were still using the old yoda so the US shows were giving the digital yoda premiere

sorry if its old news but i only just watched the show this morning!

i know im only looking at a cam version shot from the crowd but the in concert version of tpm does look better than the current versions even things like the colour of peoples eyes look more vibrant and less edge enhanced which should in theory be more evident on  a screen of that magnitude!

anyhoo was there a specific channel in austria that was known to have shown them i can find orf1HD listing ep2+3 for last august no screenshots or anything just a listing though im pretty up to date on my sw HD caps and not really found anything that wasnt from sky or premiere(germany) i still have 4-6 on my SKY-HD box one day ill do a 1080 cap :)

Original Trilogy shots in Star Wars In Concert seemed to be from the same master as the DVD.  Tantive shots did seem a bit whiter to me, but Luke's Garage was still way too dark, the overhead Star Destroyer still glared off the camera, and ESB shots were blue, which makes me think that I just WANTED Tantive to be white (or they took clips from a copy they started fixing but only got a few minutes in).

Interesting fact about the TPM shots.  Not only did they have CGI Yoda, there's actually more on the screen.  It seems like they zoomed in to fill whatever aspect ratio it was, but they zoomed in using more film than is currently available!

Look at the ceiling above their heads and the space behind Plo's chair.  All of the Yoda shots I did my comparisons with had extra space.  Where did this space come from?  Wouldn't the master they used to make the clips have the same area we've always seen, just zoomed into a particular part maybe?  Or did they go back to the original filmed elements where there is more than the 2.35:1 image to be captured from?  Is that possible?

looks like they cropped of yaddle! probably couldnt be arsed to CG her so chopped her off? fingers crossed for a new tpm transfer of all 6 movies its still the worst HD transfer if they ponied up for a cg yoda hopefully a clean and polish was done too!

The new version also has very different color grading. They brightened it considerably, dialed the blue hues out, and increased the contrast a bit.

Does the version with the new truck shot look like this as well? I haven't actually seen any of these.

i have never seen the scifi HD version (they dont show indy on the uk sci fi channel) but the bbchd version had the new truck shot in it and the old colour pallete so as u said there might be different 3 HD masters out there i have the bbc one somewhere and the sky one and also the japanese wowow version which is the same master as the sky one just need the scifi HD one to complete the collection! unlikely to ever see it though!

im assuming u all saw the canyon comparison vids on youtube?

The films were transfered in HD in 2001 with the blue line because that's on the negative; the 2003 Lowry HD master either had the same problem or painted it out; the re-releases either continued to have it painted out, or if it was previously in, painted it out; this version was given to SkyHD; shortly after, the truck matte shot was re-done and given to Sci-FiHD.

the sky version was at least a year after the sci-fi HD version (was broadcast in august 09 iirc) but has the original truck shot not the new CG version shown on the sci fi channel! this is the sort of thing that the official sites should advertise as "news" even some of the indy fan sites didnt pick up on it (i guess its just me being sad ha ha!)

sorry to talk about indy HD again but might be of interest to some

the previous versions of raiders had a faint blue line (print damage) visible in some scenes most notably the scene with indy and belloq in the bar it was visible on the bbcHD version and the version that was shown in UK cinemas from 2001 onwards (for the diet coke film festival iirc) it might be on the 1st release dvds though i cant remember, it has been removed fromthe re-released dvds (the ones with the kotcs extras added) now heres the thing the new sky-HD broadcasts (sky have a deal with paramount for newly struck HD classic movie premieres) have the blue line removed but still has the canyon truck falling scene from the above top picture hmmmmmm discuss

I've managed to convert Ady's Episode IV and V Color Corrected into MKV and they play beautifully on the WDTV player.

I can see why he's done his in AVCHD format seeing as most people would have either a PS3 or Blu-Ray player but to be honest the whole ISO burning process takes way too long + I want to be able to simply play the movie without having to insert a disc.

And hey, who's needs a AVCHD anyway when there are no menus to begin with??

if u are using the wdtv hd player it can read it straight from the original *.iso file ;) no need to convert them (same with dvds too)

I finally have seen the Ep1 file that was uploaded to tehparadox. Perhaps this has been mentioned somewhere and I'm just not seeing it, but the quality of the capture of SW, ESTB far outweigh the capture of TPM. Or at least the final products look a heck of a lot better. Perhaps someone re-encoded what's up on tehparadox? It's all soft and slightly blurry. There's a huge loss of detail for an HD. The SW capture looked amazingly crisp, as did ESTB...but TPM just looks terrible in comparison. It looks more like a DVD presentation rather than HD.

Keep in mind though I'm watching this from a 1080p projector on a 100+ screen. Adywan, does this sound like a re-encoding issue that's caused a loss of detail? or was this an inferior broadcast capture to begin with?

Can someone confirm what I'm seeing? It can't be my equipment.

no sorry its all down to the original HD broadcasts of TPM i rememember watching the marathon and being dissapointed with tpm's original airing it is the worst looking of the bunch and will need some serious attention for its eventual blu release if they release it as is the blu community will be in an uproar! lol ady has done amazing work on tpm the colour correction is superb and is night and day when compared to the other 1080p version i have (iirc it was a HV version) the overall quality is improved too less digital noise etc i watched it on a 130" screen and it was the best tpm presentation i have seen since 1999! :)
