They're prequels, so they have to be watched before the original trilogy.
Hmm, then it seems like you're unaware of what the term "prequel" means. It's a pre-sequel. It's a sequel that, chronologically, happens to take place before the movie it is following. Therefore, like any other sequel, prequels should be watched after the movies that precede it.
Indeed. Watching the PT before the OT is totally wrong. I don't think there's any need to watch any Star Wars stuff in any special order except the original three films in their original forms. Anything else you care to classify as Star Wars can be watched in any order you like, because none of it matters. Except don't watch the PT before the OT, because that's Lucas's bullshit canon.
Well I DO understand what are you guys trying to tell me, I just don't agree :-) I definitely want to watch the stuff in chronological order.
Anyway, as I wrote in my original post
What is the correct way how to watch all Star Wars stuff, when I want to include
- the 6 theatrical movies
- the Droids animated series
- the Ewoks animated series
- the 2 Ewoks movies
- the Holiday Special (yes, I REALLY want to watch it :-) )
- the Clone Wars animated series
- the Clone Wars CG movie
- the Clone Wars CG TV show
so any reply recommending to watch only the original trilogy is absolutely useless, but I hope you guys at least had a fun time :-)
I know the movies under the titles Star Wars, Empire, Jedi, Crap Episode 1, Crap Episode 2 and Crap Episode 3

Is it allowed to link to small YouTube clips of fan edit work? If so, I can have some test scenes ready to show you today. I'm am a little short on funds and can't work a paid rapidshare account into this weeks budget.
The clips I have ready are
1) Arrival of Ilia & Bones
2) Arrival of Spock
3) Leaving Drydock
4) Spock's meeting with Kirk and McCoy (Includes Vulcan flashback)
5) Attack on Epsilon-9
6) Crew Briefing
Note: The above scenes are not listed in their correct playing order.
Also, I did not list the Travel Pod scene that you should have already seen a rough cut of.
Youtube clips would be great :)
The last version looks great. The "pinkie" version almost like the Nexus from Generations
Fantastic, do you plan to torrent it or something similar ? I found only crappy avi files of the broadcast

They played theatrical in overseas territories.
Yes, I've seen it in cinema when I was a kid

I'm actually thinking about watching the original trilogy as a proper "intro", and then start with the prequels + Clone Wars stuff, and to end it with the 2004 editions of the OT
There seems to be a disconnect between the two sentences, or am I missing something?

Sucks for you if you chose to look at spoilers from 1977-2005.
You mean that Darth Vader dad thing? He's Chewbacca's dad, or something like that, right?
No, the sentences are completely OK, you just don't see the specially hidden logic :-) First I wanna see the original trilogy, the "real Star Wars".
Then I want to start with the "marathon" featuring the newest version of each movie / episode etc.
Wait a moment, isn't Chewbacca Luke's dad ? At least according to a Simpsons episode :-)
I don't agree.

Thanks a lot, guys.
Well I fully agree with you about the prequels and TV shows, I'm a Star Wars fan for 20 years and I successfully managed to ignore their existence, but now (I don't know why) feel like seeing them :-) (Well I DID see the prequels, but never REALLY felt like watching them more than once)
Thanks again
I searched for a similar thread, but couldn't find it so sorry if somebody asked this before .
I am one of the persons who have seen only the movies, but this summer I plan to do an absolutely crazy Star Wars marathon, which should include all the SW-related "products", so naturally the question is : in which order do they come ?
What is the correct way how to watch all Star Wars stuff, when I want to include
?
Also did I miss something ?
Great, the CG shot of the Enterprise sounds also like a great idea, it's definitely worth trying
I like points 1 and 2, but I have some problems with the other points.
Decker vs. Kirk - how do you want to explain that Decker simply accepts Kirk as a new captain, and in the end he lets him the Enterprise without problems and "commits suicide" ?
The SF tram station is one of my favorite scenes, so I'm not very happy that you want to cut it. Do you also want to cut out the new Vulcan officer (I don't remember the name now) ?
If you don't have the transporter accident, how will you explain that they are using shuttles instead of transporter ?
I agree that Spock's arrival should be a surprise. Maybe you could cut his scene where he enters the Enterprise and let him suddenly appear on the bridge ? However I'm not sure about the flashback idea, I hate flashbacks but of course it's your edit :-)
The entering of the cloud - I think the director's cut has this scene perfectly balanced from both SE view and storytelling view.
Also a little tip - Spock's tear scene. On the Director's edition bonus DVD many people talk about the scene, where Spock cries. But I never knew what the hell are they talking about :-) I had to check it frame by frame and zoom the video to see the tear. Could you change it to a closeup of Nimoy's face ?

Things took a turn for the worse and the doctors have moved her to a private room and told us that there is nothing more they can do for her. She's being pumped full of morphine and is slipping away fast. I'm just preying for a miracle. So i'm sitting here with a bottle of southern comfort getting totally hammered. Sorry if i don't rely to anyone's questions or suggestions for a while
Drinking is no way to deal with it.
Still, very sorry about what's going on. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Sure it is. When my father died I've been drunk for almost 2 weeks and it DID help.
Anyway I'm very sorry to hear about your loss, Ady. F*ck Star Wars, spend as much time with your family as possible

Good idea - but then he might not even need to call out anything. The brother can still see him drive by and wonder what is going on.
re: the McCoy scene, i can't recall exactly where it was, if i find it again soon enough i'll let you guys know...As i recall it wasn't footage from the film cameras just doco stuff. but the quality should be decent.
7) Kirk on car (does anybody have a good copy of the trailer ? It's not on the DVD and I need the scene of the car hitting the road without "IOWA" written in the top left corner)
not sure what you mean here, or did you mean Kirk IN car?
I'm pretty sure that ALL the main trailers are on the bluray. do you mean when the car flies around the corner of the intersection, or something else?
Check this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiHeviygXw8 - in the part around 0:09 . In the finished movie there is "IOWA" written in the top left corner. I have only the PAL R2 DVD and the trailer is not here, which is quite a shock for me

How would you transition into the opening credits with the Klingon capture scene? Maybe after Spock's birth?
6) Jim's brother

Have you found a source to redub Johnny with "Sammy" "Sam", "George" or "Georgie"? (Kirk's brother is George Samuel Kirk. "Johnny" was an edit they made after removing Kirk's brother from the script)
If you can't get him to yell the real name of Kirk's brother, could you just have him yell the word "Hay" only? Just cut out Johnny....
I've been thinking to do it either "hay hay hay" or just one "hay" and replace the couple of second with the correct part of "Sabotage"
Johnny Ringo said:
Can't remember if this has come up but during one of the documentaries they show a scene from the very end of the film where Kirk walks onto the bridge and claps Bones on the shoulder - then Bones says "same ship, different day". Have you done anything with this clip?
Do you know which documentary it is ?

Currently my edit goes like this :
1) Spock's birth
2) Paramount / Bad Robot intro (yes, AFTER Spock's birth)
3) The destruction of the Kelvin and death of Pappa Kirk
4) STAR TREK titles
5) Klingons capture the Narada
6) Jim's brother
7) Kirk on car (does anybody have a good copy of the trailer ? It's not on the DVD and I need the scene of the car hitting the road without "IOWA" written in the top left corner)
8) Vulcan bullies (can there be bullies on a planet whose inhabitants are purely logical ???)
9) Spock's parents intercut slightly with Spock talking with his father
10) ... up to Kirk meets Bones
11) Rura Penthe
12) "Three years later" - capturing Spock, Kirk goes "learning"
13) Extended Kirk and Gaila / Kobayashi Maru sequence (I haven't noticed any "green nose"
14) Kirk on trial and on the Enterprise
15) Amanda (with the film crew :) )
16) Kirk runs to the bridge ...
17) Kirk and other Orion girl etc... :)

it's my understanding that they ALWAYS speak Romulan and the magical universal translator allows the audience to hear them in English. Personally i wouldn't be bothered by the Romulan dialogue...
Is all the English spoken dialogue after to [circa] 25 year time difference?
Pittrek - did you check other star trek sources to see if anything could be substituted in? - Klingon ships for example...
Not all yet, I can work on this only on weekends :) But that's a good tip.
Also, any idea how to change the color of Vulcan atmosphere to red without affecting the color of the actors ?
Octorox said:
DO you think it might be a good idea to include the Rura Penthe scene without including the Klingon capture scene? Not only would you not need to do the effects for the capture but the Romulans speak in Romulan in that scene, which they do nowhere else in the film.
No. I have 2 reasons -
1) this should be an "extended cut" and not a "fan edit" so I'm trying to include absolutely everything I find not depending if I like the scene or not
2) During many years of the franchise there have been many episodes where we see some aliens communicating together in their language and when they meet Humans they start to speak English. I never head a problem with that

Well I've done it already, and I'm quite satisfied with the music, I just don't like the effects
Oh, thats cool. Someone ought to make a list of all the effects that need to be finished in the deleted scenes. Personally I'd start with Spock's birth without the establishing shot. Just open with white light.
The "crab" is terrible. White light sounds like an interesting idea, I'll check it how it will work.
Am I the only one who thinks that these movies need to be extended ?
It looks great, thanks. I'm glad that the 4:3 problem is not on my side, but really it took about 10 seconds to fix it so no problem :)
Nice work
