Can we see some before/after shots?
Sure. They're not perfect and do note that I didn't do any levels-correction.
Would you do the whole movie ? I like the colours
Works now.
Alright, the good thing is I can log in today. The bad thing is that after logging it (which takes MUCH longer than usually) all content on the page is in (I think) Japanese. Are you guys experimenting with the server configuration or something ?
I can't login to the blog, I get always a timeout message when I try to even load the page. It doesn't work for at least a week. -1, where are you when we need you ? :-)
I'm a trekkie. I loved the 10 movies, even the one Shatner directed. Then I've seen JJ's movie and it was the first Trek-related film I hated. And the trailer to the "second" movies persuades me NOT to watch it. TNG HD is the only exciting Trek for me right now :-)
I just came from the movie theatre. I absolutely HATE 48fps :-( It looks terrible, terrible, terrible. The movie feels like a 1980's TV soap opera :-(
Quite cheap, 26 pounds. The shipping was more expensive :-)
I'll see what I can do about the scanning. However I will definitely NOT scan the book, I would ruin it
I just bought this one on ebay. Is it worth transfering ? I'm watching ANH right now and a lot of the preservations look better than this VHS :-)
Hm.... purist....
I don't know if I'm a "OT Purist". I mean I like SOME of the changes. I just don't like the fact that I can't go and legally buy a normal 21st century transfer of the movies I fell in love with as a teenager
Harmy, overall I like your new version. But there is one small problem. E.g. at 1:03 check the rock above the speeder. On the Bluray you can see the "structure" on the light rock, you can see no details on your version. I think it's just a side-effect of the colour correction, isn't it ?
But anyway, it's a very minor thing, which I wouldn't even notice if you didn't add the BD video for comparison :-) Overall, great work !
So ... anybody working on it ?
The main video was taken from Puggo's transfer. I'll reply to your PM as soon as possible
Could you guys upload either the widescreen VHS transfer and/or the LD transfer to e.g. myspleen ?
Can you try this please ? http://www.ulozto.sk/xZ9T6RS/wampa-edit-mpg
Wow, they block even videos labelled as unlisted ? Bastards. I'll try to put it on uloz.to, I noticed in Harmy's threads that you can watch videos directly there
Darth_ender : here is a little sample of what I meant, a short clip of my abandoned project : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyOar-sNi64&feature=youtu.be
You're great, man ! This is one of the projects I started many years ago but never finished.
I can send you all my stills I found during my "research" period, but I am afraid you already have most of them.
BTW are you putting them back into the movies where they chronologically belong ? Or are you just collecting the scenes ?
I have seen most of his early short films and I loved them all

Chomping at the bit to see this. Curious to see how it compares to my boot. Will it be available on the 'spleen soon?
none got it up on Usenet (a.b.starwars) a few weeks ago. I've been trying to upload it to MySpleen, but they keep rejecting my torrent with some weird error. I'm going to try again tonight.
Are you using uTorrent for creating the torrent file ? Because they f***d up something and now it creates non-standard torrent files. I recommend using http://maketorrent.en.softonic.com/ - that one worked perfectly for me when I was creating my torrents

You could always render the video @23.976 and then render the audio as a 5.1 AC3 separately and then use TSMuxer to combine them into a MT2S file
That's exactly how I did it, I was just hoping I could do it directly :-) But thanks for the tip, it seems I have bought a crappy version of Vegas
I tell it to you this way - I started myself a project VERY similar to this (using different sources for different shots). Then I started it again. And again. And again. And again .....
However if a reasonable amount of people is in, I would like to try it

I'm not sure what you mean? When they went through and recomposited most of the effects optically using the original elements for the 97 release?AntcuFaalb said:
OK, stupid question: What exactly is a recomposite in the context of the 97SE?
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!
For instance, (from your gallery) here: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2U4x0WyTisA/TIoZb6KYuTI/AAAAAAAAFkw/DlEtpyzd2-0/s890/Comp-xx1.jpg
If I'm understanding you correctly, then the team took the original ship models and redid the effect?
My knowledge is mostly in programming and digital video, so please hand-hold me through this. :-)
Thanks again!
Actually, this shot consists of several "layers" or "elements".
1. The starfield background
2. the "big ship"
3. the "little ship"
and maybe even more. In the 70's they comped them together optically, for the 97 rerelease they found the existing elements, scanned them to the computer and comped them together digitally

Also before anyone asks, I'm not considering doing anything with the other 2 prequels, because A) I hate them and B) AFAIK, Episode II is the theatrical version in the HDTV broadcast and there are some very decent ones floating around and Ep III is the theatrical version on BD and the only version of that I ever want to see again is also already out there (the Backstroke of the West dubbing synced to the BD).
I fully understand the "A" point :-)
However a small correction to B - E2 is not the theatrical version in the HDTV broadcast, it is the DVD version which has a lot of very small changes (see the dvdactive.com article).
