Was a “raw transfer” ever released? I am seriously considering re-working this in HD using the Blu-ray. I have already upscaled and cleaned up the deleted scenes, so I could work on this, but I’d need a good quality transfer of the original LD/VHS if somebody has it
Not a nice thing to say about your customers. You usually just think those things 😃
I’ve started doing it. It took me about 6 months to clean the first Luke on Tatooine scene and I still am not satisfied with the quality, so I just gave up. Hope you will be more successful.
This is the third time I am thinking about reporting something to the FBI - one case was a peado website, one was an asshole selling DVDs of Live Aid 85. They have a bunch of nice forms on their website, but I have no clue if it’s a good idea or it would do more harm than good (exposing “us” together with “him”)
But the Orville looks pretty damn good
Trekcore just published the cover of the first Discovery comic book
I was hoping that at least the comic book Klingons will look at least slightly like Klingons…
Shatner’s such an asshole.
That’s just one of the things I love about him 😃
I hate entertainment mixed with politics, unless it’s done subtly (like e.g. classic Star Trek)
Hahahahahaha.
Well I’d never call a celebrity arguing on twitter “political” but OK. I don’t really remember the quote you quoted but I think I wrote something like that when some of the Star Trek actors wrote that anti-Trump letter, right? If so, I stand behind my opinion, if George Takei sad that he will support Clinton, I would have no problem with it, because everybody has the right to vote whoever they think is the best person for the job. What I would not support is if George Takei would say something like “Star Trek stands behind Hillary” or something similar, that is the mixing of entertainment and politics I was talking about. Does it make sense?
In other words I had problems with it for the very same reasons why I have problems with this commercial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqYuw0w645U - Shatner and Doohan IN CHARACTER are promoting a private company (but I don’t have problems with Shatner doing tons of commercials as William Shatner). Does it make at least some sense?
If not, I should probably quote C3PO and his “Shutting up, sir”.
I didn’t think I could love Shatner any more, but I think it just happened 😃

Gotta love some good “twitter drama”
So… are the rumours that CBS gave up on Discovery and after they finish the first season they will come up with a new show instead may be true?
Scenario 1 :
Let’s say we have 2 sources of a scene. One source is in colour, the second one is in black and white, both are the same version of the same shot, properly aligned of course, but the black and white version is a few seconds longer.
Scenario 2 :
Let’s say we have a deleted scene in black and white. And at the same time we have several still frames taken from the same scene, and thee frames are in full colour.
Is there a way how to “extract” the colour information from the colour footage / frames and use if for automatic or pseudo-automatic colorization of the black and white segments?
Ouch. Accidents like this can be very dangerous for a 86 years old man
I’m still sitting on a really cruddy VHS transfer of III’s ABC cut, if anyone’s interested. It doesn’t open up on the Grissom, instead on the Klingon Freighter scene, then proceeds generally the same way as the theatrical cut, but with some major trimming.
I don’t know like the others but at least “I” am interested. Even if the quality sucks, if it’s complete (meaning it doesn’t feature any “new” scenes) it can serve as a “template” and a new better quality version can be re-created using the 35mm scan and/or the Blu-ray
A 35mm print without the “II” turned up on Ebay last May.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/35mm-Feature-STAR-TREK-II-THE-WRATH-OF-KAHN-1982-Original-release-print-/232326740515
I don’t think anyone around here got their hands on it though.
Looks red-faded, but otherwise than that it looks very nice. Hopefully it will appear again
- I heard rumours about a different theatrical version (maybe 70mm?) without the “II”, called simply Star Trek - The Wrath of Khan - any more info?
Yes, that was the 70mm - presumably a similar case to ESB, where the 35mm prints had a little more refinement than the first-run 70mm.
(not my pic)
This is the first time I see an actual piece of evidence, thanks
I have not done a scene by scene comparison, but just looking at it quickly. the original B&W/Color version of The Cage and the restored full color show very little differences. The DVD release has the original in 29.790 fps and the restored version in 23.976 fps. In places the hybrid runs faster and in others the restored runs faster. There are also noticeable frame drops in the hybrid during the B&W sequences.
I am actually working on a “re-creation” of the full length Cage and there are many short omissions. The first step was to merge the Blu-ray version (the shortest of the official releases) with the hybrid version (the longest of the official releases), so now I have my own “hybrid” B&W/color version, which is actually longer than the 1986 version. The second step was to correct the speed of my 16mm audio, and try to sync it with the video, that’s when I noticed that even my “hybrid” version is too short, there are many segments were there is no dialogue just music and/or sound effects, and there is no footage for those parts available right now. Bits of dialogue are missing too, “you were like a wild little animal” is included in the 1986 and 1988 versions but dropped later, but lines like “probing you, searching for weaknesses” or “you wanna gamble we won’t” (hope I got it correctly) are in no officially releases versions. The dramatic reaction turn of Pike reacting to “soon we can start with the experiment” is missing the music which was included in The Menagerie and all home video releases, when Vina and Keylar (or whatever the spelling is) are fighting on the top of the stairs The Menagerie (and all subsequent home video releases of The Cage) include more screams by Vina, which were not in the 16mm version, there are a few places were music was added or removed…
And one of the strangest things is that The Menagerie includes 3 shots of Vina dancing which I can’t find in any official release and I can’t find the place where it should belong 😃
I’ve seen some TMP Super 8 reels on Ebay, but can’t recall their length. Collectors often spliced shorter cut downs together though.
JEDIT:Found three reels in Spanish

Do you have the possibility to move it? It’s time to check ebay regularly I guess 😃
There was a different version of Where No Man Has Gone Before as well.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Where_No_Man_Has_Gone_Before
Correct, but the pilot version is already on Blu-ray, the “real” pilot version of The Cage isn’t.
First of all sorry that I’m starting a new thread for this, but the “All Things Star Trek” thread is slowly turning into a personal argument. I have a question (and hopefully it was not answered here before) - what are all the different versions of all Trek flicks?
Star Trek The Motion Picture
Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek III - The Search for Spock
Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home
Star Trek V - The Final Frontier
Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country
Did they ever do different cuts to all the other movies? I know that Star Trek (2009) was released with some subtitle in some other countries but I can’t find it anywhere right now.
And a related question regarding the first Trek pilot The Cage. There were 6 versions produced (7 if you count the menagerie)
The audio recording of the 16mm version clearly shows all the audio changes done to The Menagerie (most notable the Keeper’s voice being pitch-shifted but there are also tons of small music changes), and that a lot of scenes were trimmed, I know that the chance is very very very slim, but I’ve seen some 16mm print on eBay a few years ago, so … Is there a chance that somebody from this forum actually has it?
What’s the general consensus on Gul Dukat? I personally thought he was a strong, even occasionally empathetic, villain, but then once he started on all the devil worship stuff he just got silly. When they made him a weird serial-womanizing cult leader it just got impossible for me to appreciate the complexity of his character that had been established before.
I loved him before he turned Bajoran in the final episodes of season 7
Another minor annoyance is that, as far as I can tell, ROTJ runs 10 minutes longer than SW and ESB. May have to skip the usual bonus extra on the DVD.
Or do a second “mini DVD” with the bonus content?
I finally finished Daredevil season one after watching the first few episodes last year and basically shelving it until now. It was pretty great, but I’m enjoying Jessica Jones even more so far, and am zipping through that one fast.
Oh yes, Daredevil season 1 was really great. Jessica Jones had a slow start but as soon as Doctor Who showed up it got really great. Daredevil season 2 was much weaker than season 1, but still really good. Luke Cage was the most boring series I’ve seen for at least a decade. Iron Fist - the most interesting thing from this show was the plot of rich white business men fighting over their leadership of a company. Which is pretty sad, it should be a show full of martial arts scenes, and every fight scene is boring.
no seeders at anh.
I’m seeding it non stop for the last 48 hours
If these chapter titles are included in an mkv (or iso?), how can they be seen afterwards? Do standalone Bluray/DVD players show them anywhere? (I think mine only ever display chapter numbers… But then my hardware is ancient.) Or do the titles only appear if using suitable software - VLC perhaps?
