It makes me wonder how they're gonna handle the originals.
I kinda wouldn't be surprised if they decide to wait until the big 4-0 in 2017 and just spread them out over a few weeks like they did in '97.
On the other hand, the only reason I care even the slightest bit about these 3D re-releases is quite simple:
The chance exists that Lucas will do fresh 4K scans for the OT.
Honestly, I can't see it going any other way.
For TPM, they had the 2K files to go back to. Presumably it will be the same for Clones and Sith (yes, the cameras were only 1920:1080, but the movies' visual effects and final mastering were "finished" at 2K rez).
The originals were scanned at 2K almost a decade ago for the dvd, but lowry's restoration was only done at 1080p (1920 horizontal resolution, scaled down slightly from 2048). I don't know what source LFL used for that 3D "test" of the ANH footage they did years ago, but the Lowry-restored stuff is stuck at hdtv resolution, not cinema resolution. That means they either go back to the 2K scans and have Lowry (or some other company) re-do the restoration at full 2K this time, or they do the smart thing and just start all over from scratch at 4K.
If they were to do that, I find it very likely they would also see fit to finally restore the original versions as well. THAT'S the only reason I care about all this 3D post-conversion bidniss.
Or better 8K scans of the OT.That way the will be more detail in the films if they do add DNR for the 3D transfers.
What IGN says about Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith 3D,alot better than the Phantom Menace 3d.

Anyway, to give you an idea of the amount of detail, here's a screenshot comparison between the DeEd v2.0 mkv encode and the actual Blu-Ray, the BD is at it's native resolution, the 720p DeEd screenshot has been simply resized to 1080p in photoshop:
The colors look Great.
Harmy said:
Yeah, I know that would be best for such comparison course. The problem is that within the DeEd, I dare say there isn't a single frame that has the same or even similar colours, brightness and contrast as the BD. And all this adds to the perception of detail, so simply sizing a BD image down to 720p and then back to 1080p up wouldn't give you the right idea on the amount of detail in DeEd v2.0. But still, here it is; left untouched BD 1080p, right the same screenshot downscaled to 720p and then saved, closed, opened again and upscaled back to 1080p:
To me the 720p upscale has more detail than the official Blu-ray, maybe it's just me.
Ok I found some comparisons pic's of all 6 Star Wars films 2004 DVD vs. Blu-ray.

and Jaws 30th anniversary DVD vs. the Restored 2012 Blu-ray.

Plus many more films.
good luck on your exams.

And let's not forget the "improvements" and "enhancements" for the upcoming 3D abomination! At least we have Raiders of the Lost Ark coming to us in IMAX to celebrate the restoration and BD release.
sweet, thanks for the heads-up! I wish they had done this with Jaws as well.
They have done It to Jaws also,it's on blu-ray/dvd

I'm not sure if I'll be able to pull it off convincingly (it's basically colourization) but I'll try, yes.
Anyway, part of what I was fixing was this: (new on top, old bottom)
Nice Lightsaber colors, and the shirt is red again.:)

Not to come across as a complete ass-hat, but Harmy if the stakes were a date with 22 year old Carrie Fisher, when would you bet we'll see a seeded release? Thanks again!
I'd love to be able to say that as soon as I get h_h's audio but here's the reason I'll be re-encoding the whole thing from scratch.
I'm not happy :-/
It's not in my lossless source files, so it must have happened during the encoding.
Oh and I guess I actually will put all the soundtrack in the MKV, if I can put them all together before the release.
Hello this is my first post on this forum,
Sorry to hear that the Encoding is not working right
Now that I have seen the Pictures on my calibrated T.V. The skin Tones look alot better.

Lower the contrast and increase the gamma a little bit.that should make the skin tones look better without losing the colors in the movie.
The GOUT has a way too soft contrast, that's why the opposite was done to make it look more like the original prints, at least with the contrast/gamma.
Trust me, after trying hundreds of variations of the script, I'm sure it looks best this way.
This is you and DJ's edit, I'll watch it the way you two make them,I was just giving my opinion.

@Dunedain: I haven't seen the Blu V1 but in the raw GOUT there is mostly more reds than other colors in all scenes. Or a kind of pinkish red.

The only thing I could do to make it look better, while digging up the rest of the colors, was to push the reds down a lot so they blend with the rest. They will still look strong, but all the picture will be strong, not just reds. :)

Here's a couple comparisons between the raw GOUT upscaled and Blu V2:

In this shot of Leia you can see lots of more colors in the picture in V2, and the reds doesn't have that pink tint.

In this shot of Han, in the GOUT all you see is basically pinkish red and grey, except for his shirt that shows the slightest yellow. In V2 you'll find lots of colors here too. The picture becomes much more interesting and alive.

Lower the contrast and increase the gamma a little bit.that should make the skin tones look better without losing the colors in the movie. Scene you have the saturation high.

this is my first post on this forum.but I posted this on the ESB:R page so now i'm putting it on this page to be on topic.Adywan, can you and you team combine both Anakins Ghost in ROTJ:R? 1/4 Hayden and 3/4 Sebastian.

Thank You.
Edit: It's not letting me go to that page.
Works fine for me, so it's not a broken link.
It worked after I logged off, I forgot my settings for how many post per page is at a high number, because when i log on this forum, there is only 276 pages, with the posts from all these years.
back on topic:
How did the move go Adywan or are you still in the middle of the moving?

I actually prefer an "aged Hayden" approach for the end of jedi... thus my avatar :)
or leave the ghost in jedi as be and have a "young sebastian" approach to the PT...
While that WOULD be closer to Ady's line of thinking (making the PT fit the OT) its probably too much work. Though who knows what Ady might decide to do.....Jake Loyd actually bears a resemblance to Shaw in my opinion....it COULD be possible that Ady will alter Hayden's face to more closely match Shaw's.
...though I AM still curious as to why we are discussing this in the Ep V thread...
WOW seems like if one person post something, everyone comments, that's what a forum is made for.I just brought up the ghost because there is no ROTJ:R page so i just post my idea on this page before it run out of my mind.

I did tell DJ that he's been unbanned. He's just been busy with work and stuff.
We're still working with the frame cleanup, though it sure takes some time. And considering I've been a bit ill lately, things have been going a bit slower.
So while I don't have much news for you guys, I can tell you that at least some of the color errors in SW have been dealt with:
For the first shot I got the correct hue from another scene on Tantive. Since the Tantive scenes are a bit low on reds, making Vader's belt really pure green wouldn't be consistent with the later scenes' look.
For the Death star scene, I got the correct hue from one moment where Vader turns left and the left side of the belt has it's green preserved.
Weird stuff really, these errors.
Hello this is my first post on this forum.Wow that is amazing that you got all that color from the GUOT, and erased bad artifacts.

Harmy's reconstructions are as close as we can get to remembering the trilogy as it should be.
Ady's edits are the Special Editions as the should have been.
The War Of The Stars is how Star Wars could have been (a knowingly brilliant reverse approach to what Ady has done).
So take your pick.
Couldn't have said it better my self,or I agree.
Ady's already stated it will be Seb Shaw.
That's fine with me, adywan is the man with the plan.
