Star Wars - The Edits and DVDr releases thread
Time
It'd be cool if someone could also do a review for the 'Fraz', 'QualityBroth' and 'Kristhemovieman' versions of the OT too...

or even some more info on which are anamorphic/letterbox, sound details, what they are sourced from, do they have bonus disks, what content are on the discs apart from the films themselves - ie menus, chapter stops, commentaries, extras etc.

Star Wars DVD Covers
Time
Hal 9000 - I like your inserts, m8.

A shame there isn't a mention of them MagnoliaFan Edits - though I suppose that's on the all the dvd covers. There was a cool MagnoliaFan logo that Rikter made up for one of his Edit covers - IIRC they'd match up pretty well with the SW logo you have on the top left of the inserts.

IMHO they do look a little cluttered - perhaps due to the 2 pics/logos on the right side.

Having said that they'd do for me - I'd print them off and use 'em for my MagnoliaFan dvds.

Cheers Hal

Info Wanted: Which Anamorphic Transfer is better?
Time
Kristhemovieman did post here for a while - could be worth sending him a PM.

Any anamorphic set referred to is most likely the Dr Gonzo set - unless stated otherwise

TR47 says he'll post more info on his coming set when he has new info to post. As far as I know there is little information on this new set - that he's posted here, anyway.

A lot of people here prefer the quality of TR47 over the Dr Gonzo version - I have to say on my 32" widescreen tv and low-mid range dvd player there isn't a great deal of difference to me - and whilst the TR47 does just seem a little sharper and the sound better, it does by no mean suggest that the Dr Gonzo version is not a great quality set in any way.

Hope you find the info you seek

Info Wanted: How many bootleg DVD sets are there that are worth talking about?
Time

IIRC the Kristhemovieman set didn't get much attention here - personally it just didn't appeal to me as it didn't appear to be appear to any better than the Dr Gonzo or TR47 versions.

When I first joined these boards the above 2 versions were the only quality bootlegs that seemed of interest - so I bought both, and was more than pleased with my choices. As more differing versions have come to pass I've learnt to trust the views of posters like Bossk, Rikter, Mr.Coffee, DanielB, ObiWonton, Laserman, MeBeJedi and Luke (as well as many others who I've forgotten to list right now that I will no doubt regret later - lol.) on such things - as well as my own instincts...

Rikter does seem to have a rather vast collection of SW oddities and probably could give you a more detailed informed opinion of the Kristhemovieman and Farsight sets - and maybe why they don't appear on his 'list review' (could be that he hasn't seen them).

A good comparison screenshot post:-

and worth reading that thread on from there...

Info: OT Bootleg DVDs
Time
MeBeJedi -

I hope you start a thread on your 'SW OT MeBeJedi dvd version' - there seems to be a lot of interest in them and it's getting harder to keep up with the news and info on them in this huge 'bootleg dvd' thread and others.

Maybe good for an FAQ too so you don't have to repeat yourself answering the same questions over and over?

I'm not sure sure but I don't think a lot of people have seen the Farsight version.

I imagine Rikter and a few others have but there doesn't seem to be much interest in it (on here, anyway). I suppose with the release of the 2004 dvds and the promising looking MeBeJedi's version coming soon, as well as (hopefully) Laserman's version to come a bit later has taken up most people's interest.

A few screenshots of Farsight's version were posted in the Bootleg thread - I'm not sure if they are still up though.

Interview with Gary Kurtz (very good - from 2002 at IGN)
Time

2019 Edit: The above link to the interview sadly no longer works. However, the interview can be found in an archived format, via the Internet Archive’s WayBack Machine, here:-

http://web.archive.org/web/20040822105950/http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/376/376873p1.html?fromint=1

Cheers for the link - that is one interesting interview, not only on SW but film in general.

I was surprised about GL’s change of direction for Jedi after working on the IJ films - would be most intriguing to hear more of the original premise for Jedi.

Some very good points re the 97 Special Editions from someone so close to SW - does make you wonder if Kurtz has told GL what he thinks of certain changes…

Poor Obi-Wan

^ lol.

Considering GL likes to hit the audience over the head with his moral crusades - deathsticks and Han & Greedo shooting etc - it's pretty lame of him to infer that if you don't live a good life that you'll live forever as a young bloke in his prime if you go off the rails as it were...
