I’m looking forward to the next film (even the dislikers will to carry on disliking it)… but not just to watch the film for itself - but to see how the characters are going to develop, what’ll happen to them, how the story will evolve etc… and having that important element of the viewer caring for the characters shows what a good job the filmmakers did with this film. A mary sue character just wouldn’t have that effect, or generate that interest.

Re ‘Merry Sue’ - no worries 😃 I still can’t remember if Yoda says in ESB ‘difficult to see… always in motion the future is’?, or is it ‘difficult to see… always emotion the future is’? Both work as a line and have an impact - though my memory grows ever awful, and I need more coffee! Thankfully youtube tell me it’s the ‘in motion’ line 😃

I agree with a lot (not all) of you what you say above - I don’t think Rey is a ‘Mary Sue’ either, much in the way Luke wasn’t (though he possibly fits the description more than Rey does in Ep4).

It seems to me it is a lazy criticism - not understanding the characters in the SW universe, or not thinking through the events in the film itself as a whole (her environment, how she struggles initially to the events occurring around her, the decisions she makes, then how she evolves and adapts through those situations she encounters etc - ultimately ending with her ‘Letting The Force In’, as it were, to not be defeated by Ren in the lightsabre fight at the end of the film).

That’s not to say there aren’t valid criticisms of the film or the characters therein - as there will be for almost any film out there… but the Mary Sue thing just doesn’t seem applicable to Rey in this film.

The “Always” line had a weird little squeak or something behind it right at the end of the line. I tried my best to minimize it (you can still kinda hear it if you really listen) while keeping the line intact. As far as I can remember/tell it’s NOT a reconstruction - but more a merging of the content from a VHS bootleg handcam recording from a time before ‘A New Hope’ or ‘Episode 4’ was added to Star Wars - edited together with a laserdisc version of the film (for quality) and put onto dvd by MagnoliaFan.

(back then we were all watchers of the various laserdisc versions from PAL/NTSC/Jap regions, and varying quality of laserdisc players being put onto dvds - by the likes of Dr Gonzo, TR47, Cowclops, Isomix, Moth3r, Editdroid, Editous, Citizen, Grinder etc).

Hopefully someone else remembers better than I do - though it may be worth contacting MagnoliaFan himself to see if he can remember! 😃

Think there may be some deleted scenes from the Resistance ops room - hopefully they’ll make it to dvd and be of use for the Editors on here. Maybe a line of dialogue inserted from the other 6 films may also do the trick?

Main thing I’d be interested in seeing done well in an Edit would be how to ‘fix’ the scene where Leia ignores Chewy (after Chewy and Rey return from the mission that Han has just died on), and Leia just hugs Rey instead…

Many older netbooks are underpowered (sub-par Atom processors in them and often they only have 1gb of RAM), however there are things you can do to help…

Firstly I’d bring up ‘msconfig’ to check what programs are working in the background when Windows has started up - most people only need their antivirus running - so uncheck any and everything else (stuff like itunes running can really slow some computer s down on startup and shutdown).

Then move on to doing a Disk Cleanup, followed by a Disk Defrag - this may take a while…

I’d then run ccleaner (free and easy to use program from filehippo.com), click on the ‘Registry’ option and then ‘Scan for issues’ followed by ‘Fix Issues’.

After that I’d move onto the obvious antivirus and Malwarebyes Antimalware scans - I’d recommend the Avast Free Antivirus if you think your current antivirus is doing a sloppy job or maybe slowing your pc down.

Probably be a good idea to download and run Rkill, Adwcleaner and TDSSKiller too - all free and effective programs from bleepingcomputer.com.

For Windows Updates I’d go for the automatic download but install them when you want option too 😃

If you’re using Google Chrome or a Chromium based browser go into the advanced settings and untick the ‘use hardware acceleration when available’ and ‘continue running background apps when closed’ - also have a look to ensure there are no extensions running that shouldn’t be, and your default search engine is what it should be.

Good luck with it - if your netbook has 2gb ram it may be noticably slower than it was a year ago - if possible check to see if the amount of RAM can be increased for your make and model (4gb+ would be great) - ebay do some good cheap memory.

You can either cast a screen (through a Google Chrome browser tab) - or choose a video from your library - to play to your tv.

I put an extra bit of text on the back of the 2nd cover - and moved the spine text a little - so it all lined up a little better. It printed out well even in ‘draft quality’ settings on my printer.

The good thing about having a white background and printing on white paper or card is it can easily be changed and chopped for various sizes & formats etc 😃

I didn’t like the lack of info about what the Resistance and First Order were to the Rebellion & Empire and the current ‘lay of the land’ as it is since the 30+ years since Return Of The Jedi. Some info in the crawl or some exposition dialogue would have been useful and welcome.

Also didn’t like that Chewy walks past and ignores Leia after arriving back from the mission on which Han has just died, so Leia can meet and greet Rey - it just jarred, almost JarJar-ed (I’m sorry!)

A clearer explanation of what planets were blown up by the Starkiller Base would’ve been good too - some people thought it was Coruscant or Chandrilla - it may have given it more of an emotional impact if we’d known that Hosnian Prime was the current Capital Of the New Republic and was also where the Fleet was too…

Other than that I’m pretty good, really enjoyed it 😃

I think there may be a bit of a difference in ratings in the here and now - and a time in the future on when we get the dvds and watch them multiple times over the years. Should be interesting to see if anything in TFA is changed/edited for the dvd release too.

It may also change when considering how it’ll gel in with the other 2 films to come in this Sequel Trilogy…

As of now, as a standalone Star Wars film that I’ve seen twice I’d rate TFA a solid 8/10. It felt like a continuation of the Original Trilogy - and certainly felt more an actual Star Wars film than the Prequels did. The film wasn’t perfect - but neither was the OT.

The Freemake Video Converter does a nice easy-to-use job (I’m no tech geek so there may be better options out there), it’s available here - http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/ - and ermm… is free 😃

It may be worth getting hold of a mate’s Chromecast - or similar device - to be able to watch your original download on your Panasonic tv? (may be easier and quicker than converting etc - and gives you a pretty cheap and easy option of watching any video files on your pc on the tv).

Frink, imho it's a game of nerve in a penalty shoot-out - your insecurities and frailties put to the limit - a 'do-or-die' type scenario which makes for a great nailbiting climax to a game. I'm a big fan of them - though understand they are not everyone's cup of tea.

Corners are too hard to score from - more chance of injury (stretching to generate that much power that late into a game) - even if the goals were empty.
