Single box 3 Disc Covers
Time

Some posters on here have done some superb quality sets for Harmy’s DeSpecialized Edition boxsets (and star wars boxsets in general) - ronwlim, one69chev, FrankT, phildesfr, detola, G E Predator, Starwhore, natedeug, EyeShotFirst, RoccondilRinon, tommyauck, Mjvmovieman, The Aluminum Falcon, coov, Stealthboy, Morsoth, crpl_hicks, Spheretronic, railerswim, video collector, and Harmy himself.

A few of them have their own topic threads in the dvd covers section of this site - or in the general covers thread here:-

http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-DVD-Covers/id/741/page/176 (and work your way backwards)

and in here:-

http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-Despecialized-Editions-Custom-Bluray-Set/id/49995

It’s may also be worth a google image search for some of the names listed above to help find some of the boxsets that you like and may want to use (ie, ‘frankT cover’, or ‘frankT star wars’).

Good luck with it 😃

edit - I forgot to include the really good bluray cover thread as well - doh!:-

Star Wars DVD Cover Collection Myspleen
Time

I had Rikter’s quality compilation of covers and disc art etc at 99.7% - it downloaded quite quickly too - but then nothing for a few weeks now… still on 99.7%…

…and Rikter’s Jedi Beat Machine tracks are all there 😃

Word to those Spookies!

Edit - Rikter’s superb disc collection (or rather 99.7% of it - 1.42gb) can be viewed and downloaded from a google drive, here:-

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0ByfjLkYDj7bReWlZcjdFOTVRbE0?usp=sharing

Willarob and Depheros have also uploaded the Rikter cover collection disc up on myspleen (with higher-resolution covers - at 3.67gb) - and with even more covers also added.

It is also available at the superb:-

http://thestarwarstrilogy.com/starwars/page/The-Star-Wars-Trilogy-Box-Set-Cover-Archive

^ It’s a great site, easy navigation and lots of thumbnails and artwork - well worth checking out for all the other content on there too.

Well in, lads 😃

cheers mate - it’s quite fortunate as I can only do simple! 😃

I’ll let you know re the holographic cover 😉

FrankT’s white inksaver trilogy boxset is superb - I use a version of that for my own dvd boxset on the shelf.

Edit - crpl_hicks; could you re-post some links for your covers please mate? - I’m only seeing a pic of a cat where your quality covers were (links are down?)

Some of the work that has gone into the DeSpecialized boxset covers are amazing - ronwlim, one69chev, FrankT, phildesfr, detola, G E Predator, Starwhore, natedeug, EyeShotFirst, RoccondilRinon, tommyauck, Mjvmovieman, The Aluminum Falcon, coov, Morsoth, crpl_hicks, Spheretronic, Harmy himself and anyone else who I’ve forgotten to mention (many apologies) - all quality endeavours.

Need help with a DVD box set measurements
Time

Hi Omar, it depends on the thickness of the card you are going to use for your 3 dvd disc boxset, but the measurements of one of my sets is… height is 190mm, width is 144mm, and the depth is 48mm.

I’d have a practice go first - or buy a cheap 3 disc boxset from a local market, car boot sale or a cheap shop - and have a play around with that to get it just right for the type of boxset you want to build.

Good luck 😃

I know I’m ridiculously late to this post, and if anyone out there is still listening, does anyone have these that I could download or copy? The links don’t work now, and probably haven’t for a decade!

Hope these are the ones you are after…

(someone with the talents of fusionaddict may well have designed more dvd covers - though I seem to remember this was the set that was quite popular at the time - still very classy 12 years on too 😃)

Some dvd covers here that you may be able to customise a bit - think they are Rikter’s - and go back a fair bit…

and these are from Degeneration:-

Hope these help you out a bit - and good luck 😃

Edit - Handman is correct below - the Bonus Cover was missing (Congratulations Handman - you passed the test 😉).

Just in case you did want to use the spines from the above cover set, here is the Bonus Materials dvd cover to match…

What type of paper should I use to print out a cover for a Blu Ray case?

I usually have Staples print out my covers on Elite Gloss paper. Cost per print is like 50¢.

I don’t remember the last time I went to staples, but will I need to bring a USB that contains the covers I want to use, and print it out there, right?

Probably so mate - though always worth an ask - I find most Staples employees are willing to help and even offer advice, especially for interesting projects like these.

.

If you wanted to do some covers yourself I’d opt for semi-glossy photo paper, or just glossy photo paper for your covers - just remember to adjust the printer settings so it knows it’s printing on glossy paper as opposed to standard quality ‘everyday’ paper.

I find it hand to do a test print in draft settings (or whatever the lowest quality settings of print is on your printer) before trying to print in the high quality ink settings - just to make sure sizes and alignments are all ok.

Good luck with it 😃

Beautiful mate - love the use of some quite rare (to me, anyway) artwork for the booklets - the front cover for the Original Trilogy is superb (and looks like it could be an official poster/picture release).

Massive props for you giving us a head’s up on how you did it too - that’s some quality workmanship, time and effort gone into these - nice one 😃

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Fan Edit Ideas thread...
Time

NeverarGreat said:

All good ideas for crawls. Here’s one that incorporates several of those ideas:

ROGUE ONE

It is a time of galactic tyranny.
The once venerable democracy
has fallen to a despotic Empire,
which subjugates the star systems
of the defeated Old Republic.

A few brave souls dare to defy
this oppressive regime, and
whisper of forming a strong
REBEL ALLIANCE, now
their only hope against the
relentless Imperial machine.

With the resistance still
fractured and in disarray,
the Empire moves swiftly to
complete its ultimate weapon,
one that will spell destruction
and death across the stars. . . .

Impressive, clear and concise. The word ‘subjugates’ may have a few people reaching for the dictionary - though that isn’t a bad thing.

The end line ‘and death across the stars…’ - would ‘and death across the galaxy…’ scan/sound better?

Either way, that is one quality crawl that, feels and comes across like it could’ve been the actual Rogue One crawl had they used one - nice one 😃

It’s a fan film: the story is pointless and filled with various elements that make no sense (a walker within the city ? Is it the best weapon for this kind of environnement ?) just because they want to put a “SW skin” on it. But on the other hand it’s technically well made; it costed quite a lot so this is the minimum we can expect. It’s a well made fan film if you want. The actors… let’s say they try their best, which is not enough since the screenwriter didn’t do his job to develop correctly the characters.

To be fair mate, was a walker in a forest a great idea in ROTJ? All that uneven ground, slopes and trees in the way?

A walker is handy mobile decently-armoured tool for heavy-fire troop support - makes sense to have them wherever the Empire thinks they’ll be of use - especially in occupied cities where there is heavy resistance and air-support is limited in it’s effect (narrow streets / poor line of sight etc).

I’m not too sure it’s a case of putting a ‘SW skin’ on it - if it weren’t there people would likely be saying where at the Scout Walkers, or AT-ATs etc. It exists in a timeline where we are familiar with certain props - it’d be weird not to use them - it should be in as it is a Star Wars film - as well as new tropes like the Imperial Droid (K2S0), the U-Wing, transport craft, those slim Tie Fighter type ships, Death Troopers etc).

.

On a separate note, the film - for me, was how a Prequel should be done. Yes, we knew the outcome and that it’d had end on a certain path - but unlike some other prequels it’d didn’t re-write or contradict the stories and events for the Original Trilogy, had a well-structured plot, it was well executed overall, had interesting characters in the main (some of which it’d been great to see more of), had some decent acting performances, had the feel or a real film (pacing, tone, emotion and lack of poor CGI sets), some good humour, and above all it felt like one of the better Star Wars films. It felt like a Star Wars film.

It may not be ‘perfect’, but it certainly hit the spot a lot more than it missed.

Upon leaving the cinema I had a big smile on my face, felt like a kid again, and wanted to see the film again right away (damn the cinema staff and their want for sleep after a midnight showing 😉) and also has me yearning for December next year for VIII.

Not quite a dvd cover…

My USB Box Cover…

Minion

^ The USB Box above cost £8.95 + delivery, from here:-

https://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Window-Black-Artificial-Leather/dp/B00ULK8ITE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1482502830&sr=8-2&keywords=usb+photo+box

(click on the link above for more pictures - it is also available in white - and you can also get the USB Box for around £5 without the option for a photo cover).

The photo window size is 8.5cm by 8cm - I added an extra 0.5cm all around for the ‘artwork’ to fit in nicely.

It’s a decent quality box - with a magnetic seal, and sponge surrounding to house the all important USB drive.

There is also this similar USB Box for £4.60 (plus delivery), here:-

link - https://shop.photomart.co.uk/59168.html

I’ve also bought some of these bluray style USB Cases (5 cases for £8 delivered), here:-

link - http://www.leeds10.com/blu-ray-style-usb-case-clear-14mm-spine-with-insert-sleeve/

^ this case is the same size as many bluray cases (14mm spine) - is a good quality build - and the company delivers to many countries around the world 😃

See below for a couple of pictures of this USB Case being used with Rogue One & Harmy DeSpecialized Trilogy inksaver covers…

and I also found these smaller USB Drive cases - just over £1 each, here:-

link - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225772642396

For whatever reason there doesn’t seem to be a lot of USB Boxes or USB Cases available online, and the few that are have a minimum order of 100 or so from Chinese-based websites like alibaba.com & aliexpress.com, or US-based websites like shop.sunpack.com & premiumusb.com/ etc.

Some other USB Boxes are also quite expensive as they are often used by wedding photographers - and the magic word ‘wedding’ just seems to add £££s/$$$s to anything associated with one.

If you do come across any quality or cheap USB Boxes & USB Cases please post them up in here - thank you 😃

Some covers I made for the USB Box (mainly for ideas etc)…

(when I say ‘made’ I mean found on google or other places, resized them, edited them and then added some text to them using MS Paint with a few Star Wars fonts 😉)

Hopefully there’ll be a fair few deleted / alternative scenes on dvd / bluray - there seems to be a fair few scenes that were in the trailers and tv spots that didn’t make it to the final cut of the film.

Some could be quite interesting to add back in etc…

DigitalFreakNYC posted a good link on some of the missing/alt scenes here:-

.

For me the film was great - really enjoyed it - and don’t think it needs much other can see some may want tidy up the CGI Tarkin etc, (how good is it to say that about a Star Wars film? 😃) though it’ll be interesting to see what some of the talented fan editors out there come up with…

Personally I’d love to see the re-inclusion of more lines of dialogue from Saw - the ‘what will you do when they catch you?.. what will you do if they break you?.. if you continue to fight…?.. what will you become…?’, and the ‘the world is coming undone… Imperial flags reign across the galaxy…’ line.

Along with Jyn’s ‘every day we grow weaker… while they grow stronger’, as well as ‘there isn’t much time’ dialogue.

I really enjoyed it - it felt like Star Wars; immersive, real, uncomfortable with varying shades of grey from some of our ‘heroes’ - and a story which you could connect to - and was delivered so well.

Wanted go back and watch it again straightaway 😃

Hope that Gareth Edwards - and his crew - are given the chance to do more Star Wars films - they certainly raised the bar for the films to come…
