IMDB closing down it's message boards
Time

Puggo - Jar Jar’s Yoda said:

I found the IMDB forums useful for looking up obscure information. Unfortunately, many forums are shutting down as they are becoming a less and less justifiable cost and liability to moderate with so many trolls and bots.

Agreed mate, and the relatively anonymous mask of sitting behind the keyboard and posting hate and drivel has given rise to an army of trolls, baiters and bots - from news comments sections, to IT, to comedy - all across the media in general.

However, IMDB (a subsidiary of Amazon still?) is one of the few companies out there that could hire enough skilled/experienced moderators to do more of job weeding out the shite on their boards - though they have decided not to until it has become so bad they no longer want to be associated with their own boards.

It’s a bit disappointing to be honest from IMDB - as others have posted out - the trolls will still exist and just find new safer places to continue to post their hate/shite etc (NIMBY - but your yard is ok).

And the good, interesting and insightful posts lost for good…

Done mate - though sadly it looks like that ebay seller has been doing it for a while too.

Certainly hope he/she is not a member here.

A Star Wars USB Drive - <em>Box, Case, Tape, Tin, Frame, Figure &amp; Cover</em> Thread...
Time

Just thought I’d start a thread for something a little different - an alternative option to storing our precious Star Wars films etc on dvd and blu ray discs and in their respective cases and box sets…

Something that’s quite easy to do, uses a lot less ink, stores the films safely, is reasonably cheap - and still have their own artwork so to differentiate between the various Star Wars releases accumulated over the years…

With the humble USB flash drive becoming ever cheaper, more reliable and with increased storage sufficient enough to fit many, many films on a single device - I thought I’d give it a go backing up my Star Wars dvds onto some USB drives - and also knocking up some covers for the USB Drive Boxes (and USB Cases too)…

my USB Drive Box and Cover:-

Minion

^ The USB Box above cost £8.95 + delivery, from here:-

www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Window-Black-Artificial-Leather/dp/B00ULK8ITE

(click on the link above for more pictures - it is also available in white - and you can also get the USB Box for around £5 without the option for a photo cover).

The photo window size is 8.5cm by 8cm - I added an extra 0.5cm all around for the ‘artwork’ to fit in nicely.

It’s a decent quality box - with a magnetic seal, and sponge surrounding to house the all important USB drive.

There is also this similar USB Box for £4.60 (plus delivery), here:-

link - https://shop.photomart.co.uk/59168.html

I’ve also bought some of these bluray style USB Cases (5 cases for £8 delivered), here:-

link - http://www.leeds10.com/blu-ray-style-usb-case-clear-14mm-spine-with-insert-sleeve/

^ this case is the same size as many bluray cases (14mm spine) - is a good quality build - and the company delivers to many countries around the world 😃

See below for a couple of pictures of this USB Case being used with Rogue One & Harmy DeSpecialized Trilogy inksaver covers…

and I also found these smaller bluray/dvd style USB Cases - it measures in at 100 x 95 x 18mm (25 cases for £25 delivered), here:-

link - http://www.jetmedia.co.uk/flashdrives_cases.htm

For whatever reason there doesn’t seem to be a lot of USB Boxes or USB Cases available online, and the few that are have a minimum order of 100 or so from Chinese-based websites like alibaba.com & aliexpress.com, or US-based websites like shop.sunpack.com & premiumusb.com/ etc.

Some other USB Boxes are also quite expensive as they are often used by wedding photographers - and the magic word ‘wedding’ just seems to add £££s/$$$s to anything associated with one.

If you do come across any quality or cheap USB Boxes & USB Cases please post them up in here - thank you 😃

Some covers I made for the USB Box (mainly for ideas etc)…

(when I say ‘made’ I mean found on google or other places, resized them, edited them and then added some text to them using MS Paint with a few Star Wars fonts 😉 These were mainly for ideas etc - but feel free to use and improve upon…)

Basically, any art or logo etc that you like should be able to be easily cut down to size - and then printed off as a cover for a USB Box…

A good quality USB flash drive (ie, SanDisk or Kingston) costs around £15-20 for 64gb here in the UK - approximately $18-25 in US money.

I originally posted some USB flash drive covers in the ‘Star Wars DVD Covers’ thread - and interest and questions have been steadily coming in - so thought I’d start a thread on it.

Hopefully others will post their USB Boxes, USB Cases and covers too - or just to help us remember to back up our dvd and bluray discs - just in case…

^^ Really cool idea with the old school shipping boxes - love the logos as stickers too 😃

That’s a cool OT pic you have for the back of the black boxset too - doesn’t seem to many of them around that encompass the whole of the OT so a nice find there too.

Quality work mate - and a great new take for your shipping boxset!

a simple inksaver 1986/87 Special Collection 3-in-1 Trilogy dvd cover

^ very much based on the Dark Jedi’s covers for the ‘Dark-Saga’ collection.

Some of the photos on the back cover may need re-aligning, as well as the text on the bottom of the back cover to suit any specific sets - or conversion for bluray covers.

It’s yet another quick ‘cut n paste’ MS paint effort - but hopefully it’ll do the job - or give ideas for someone to do a better or alternative cover.

Really like the layout and look of simplicity on the JSC covers.

Thanks for this Jason, ver cool.

No worries mate - please let me know the link to Althor’s cover - or which thread it may be in, thanks 😃

Sorry, I meant he did a 3 n 1 BD25, it did not have any artwork. That is why I was thinking that using the DVD one to base a bluray one off of. His 3 n 1 was for the JSC set, not the Special Widescreen Edition.

Gotcha mate - I need more coffee, too much time spent at pc monitors today 😃

I may well give that a go in the next few days - someone kindly sent me some Dark Jedi dark saga transfer covers (JSC set) last week… 😉

Quality work Jack - and nice re-working to include the Imperial March, which suits a more ‘punchy’ opening when compared with the film opening title sequence actually used.

Personally I’d like to see the something like the crawl from the Rogue One crawl from Celebration 2016 used (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9BuyiFvLJA) - without the ‘Episode IV’ and ‘A New Hope’ titles obviously 😉

Then at the end of the crawl, emerges a R1 logo title likes the ones you did (I imagine one of the brighter yellow titles will be a better ‘fit’ or ‘match-up’ more)? and then the film begins…

Just my two-penneth (apologies if it’s already been discussed to death) - am looking forward to seeing these various R1 Edits when finished 😃

That’s cool. Any idea who should be on Episode 8? Luke, Rey? or another villain? Snoke perhaps?

Luke probably should be one one of them - given the number of films he’s been in?

T’is a really great yellow colour on that TFA box above.

Maybe Jyn, K2S0 or Tarkin on the front for any R1 cover? (possibly Krennic - though maybe not iconic enough a character?)

Actually I’d argue Krennic would fit best since he is the one who arguably drives the plot forward and for the picture it should be a picture of Scarif with the building front and center. I’ll try and do a mock-up but I’m good at editing an already existing picture. Not so much from scratch. Can you link me the font used for the “Faces” set?

Another I guess would be a Death Trooper.

You could well be right there mate.

Off hand, I think the font used is ‘Star Jedi’ - http://www.fontspace.com/boba-fonts/star-jedi

tommyauck will know for sure - he’d have used it for his Prequel Title lettering 😃

For the subtitle font / text, that is Bank Gothic - https://ufonts.com/download/bank-gothic-medium/97517.html

Somewhere in this section of ot.com someone put together a great font / logo collection with pics from many of the various sets - but I can’t find it right now - doh!

Jedit - found it 😃

Hopefully, this may be of use to anyone looking up info for fonts and logos - the superb Trooperman and his ‘SW fonts’ thread from 2005:-

Hi tommyauck - really great work, though I noticed there is a slight spelling error in ‘separitists’ on the Clones back cover (though is spelled correctly ‘separatists’ on the Sith back cover).

Also on the TPM cover it may be worth capitalising the word ‘Jedi’ (from the text ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi, the wise old jedi’) - as the word Jedi is capitalised on the other covers.

^ this my inner ocd anal spelling nerd coming out - feel free to ignore (and check my spellings of separatists too - just in case!)

They are very well-executed and interesting covers - am looking forward to seeing TFA and possible R1 Faces covers too 😃

tommyauck, that’s a really impressive set - they really look good and fit well with the OT Faces covers - nice work 😃

always thought it strange there hasn’t been many Faces-based custom covers down the years - so the more Faces-based covers, even for the Prequels, the better 😃

will you be doing one for TFA, and maybe the other 2 Sequel Trilogy films, somewhere down the line?

There is another horizontal cover for a DVD, however, it’s a SteelBook and it’s only in Italy, also it’s not Star Wars.

Please just tell me how to upload direct links here in OT.com and I can show you.

To post a picture here from another website, use this:-

![] (insert-link-in-here-between-the-brackets) - and then delete the space between the ] and (

If you just want to link it here then just ‘copy and paste’ the link on here and that’ll work too 😃

From Jetrell Fo’s superb collection…

just a sample of Ell the Ewok - more of his other work, and for more of the other covers previewed below can be found on…

These look great, reminds me of some of the horizontal boxes for the Super Famicom games which I had as a kid (I did not understand some of the text back then because I didn’t learn Japanese yet but I loved playing them, even without being fluent in Japanese). Some games which had vertical boxes like Super Mario World, Mega Man X1-4 and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and some were horizontal like the Final Fantasy games, Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia.

What cases are they for?

And speaking of the Super Famicom and horizontal covers, I think a cover series inspired by the boxes of the Super Star Wars Trilogy on the SNES would be really cool.

Glad you like them - I’m surprised we haven’t seen more landscape’ style covers like Ell the Ewoks - I think they are kind of different and look fun. I don’t think they were for a specific set - which is also kind of nice when you can easily use covers for various sets 😃

To see a Famicom/SNES-based dvd cover of the Super Star Wars trilogy would be cool. Is this what you are thinking of?:-

Yes. But I’m thinking some of the logos and text would have to be altered if we were to make a DVD/Blu-ray cover.

And while I usually prefer Japanese cover art for most retro games, I think this kind of cover should be based on the US or Europe boxes since the Japanese box was vertical.

This is just a very quick & rough draft for ideas (the fonts for the logos are wrong, and it is not to scale or size etc) - I don’t really have the time right now, or to be honest - the skills required for a task like this - but perhaps something along the lines of this?

and

^ The picture is a little squished (a photobucket thing?), ‘the original trilogy’ seal isn’t quite the correct shade of gold colour, and I can’t find the correct Super Nintendo font (it isn’t ‘Agency FB’ as some say it is - which is more like Star Trek. Some say it is Helvetica) - which, I can’t find for free right now. Doh!

It may also be worth bumping one of the old request threads - or starting a new one for it - there are some superbly talented people on here - and I’m pretty sure it is something of interest that may attract them to knocking up a high quality set like this…

Star Wars 1992 VHS styled DVD covers
Time

Are these by EyeShotFirst any good for you mate? (may need some tinkering… it has US spelling and the layout is a little different, though the black background should make it easier to edit etc?)

and the full size files can be found, viewed and downloaded from here:-

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0ByfjLkYDj7bROVVsSXFCQWxvS1k?usp=sharing

(it’ll be in the ‘EyeShotFirst 1992’ folder - there are a few others on there which may be of interest)

I’m not 100% sure but think I saw a vhs set of these got for something ridiculous like £5 on ebay uk not so long ago - may be worth keeping an eye out on there too for another cheap set - especially if the covers are in good condition.

Also, if any of the users in this thread are still around - http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/1992-VHS-release-of-the-OT/id/13108 - they may be able to help you with a good scan of the back covers?

I love to hate listening to people who think they know all about alcohol just because they’ve tried some expensive stuff (they’re usually bashing “cheap” stuff). I also love their faces when they find out they are talking to someone who studies these things and that it’s obvious that they don’t have a clue what they’re talking about.
But why do people do this? I experience it mostly with beer and liquor, but it happens with just about any subject. Why pretend like you know about something you don’t know about? It only makes you look silly.

How I see ray_afraid from now on…
