OT.com Chess Federation©®™(OTCF©®™)(was: How about a game of chess?)
Time

Thanks Warbler - really enjoyed watching your games vs Handman and darth_ender, it actually got me interested in having a game again (I think the last time I played was in a tournament on the ot.com many years ago).

darth_ender - let me know when you’d like to start mate - and if you prefer to play as white or black? 😃

(If ok with you I may post up a pic of the board from time to time? - there were some instances in the previous games I wasn’t too sure of the moves listed correlating to the board - though that could be lack of coffee and the late hour!)

I’m honestly confused as to why there’s even a DVD-only release these days.

I suppose the price difference? (here in the UK if a bluray is £15, then the dvd is usually around £10) - and some people aren’t too bothered about the greater picture quality and detail etc (as Silverwook says) - they just want to watch the film.

Be interesting to see a comparison on bluray to dvd sales though. And the effect on them due to increasing number of movie channels, rentals, streaming, digital downloads, many people having less money - and dodgy torrents etc.

I’ll likely buy Rogue One on dvd (even with the appalling cover 😉), and then rip it to the hard drive and watch it through the chromecast on tv - it doesn’t take up too much drive space, and I’ll have back up just in case the disc goes awry.

That is a pretty nifty, or top, idea. Plus that Rogue 1 cover is awesome…I am going to have to download that one, great work brother.

Cheers mate 😃

There are 4 Rogue One covers (3 with differing backs - I couldn’t find one I was happy with) - though hope you find one you like - and feel free to edit and improve upon it!

The full size covers can be downloaded from a google drive, here:-

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0ByfjLkYDj7bRcFo4RHkzbmV6RU0?usp=sharing

(it should be better than downloading compressed files from the photobucket site)

I thought the official Rogue One covers were a little disappointing - in both content and quality (no deleted scenes either!)

Did like this bluray one the best though, for some strange reason…

Episode VIII : <strong>The Last Jedi</strong> - film &amp; fan art, + covers etc
Time

^ nice one mate - I’ve already used it as the basis for a USB Box cover!

(when I say USB cover… I mean a square with a Star Wars logo and some text in 😉)

I couldn’t find a The Last Jedi logo with a plain black background - the ones I found all had background stars in them - so many thanks for that 😃

The TLJ product packaging looks kind of cool too:-

^ interesting the reflection of the Star Wars lettering on the lower left side of the box is yellow - when on the box it is red 😉

Info Wanted: Return of the Jedi - &quot;Review Copy&quot; (PAL VHS)
Time

According to the great http://www.swonvideo.com/ website it is from 1986 (and obviously for the UK) and was a promo copy for the coming ROTJ rental tape at the time.

The review or promo copy is what they sent around to video rental shops for them to show it on loop - to help generate a bit more interest etc before it’s actual release - and the quality of tape was usually higher than the standard rental/to buy tape (even for a Betamax) to withstand the looped playing.

Star Trek used to do the same for their releases on VHS back in the day - if the shop staff didn’t know what they were doing you could easily end up buying one by mistake (I did a couple of times) and it had an annoying timebar across the bottom of the screen, so I returned it - to which the staff who knew better were very grateful for.

I don’t know if it’s worth anything - but is certainly quite rare.

Does anyone know where to find the Blu Ray-style cases in the US besides in bulk?

Not in the US mate, though in nearby Canada…

link - https://www.carrmclean.ca/flash-pac-super-clear-usb-case.html

^ I think it’s a blu ray sized case - though best check with them first.

The http://www.leeds10.com/blu-ray-style-usb-case-clear-14mm-spine-with-insert-sleeve/ UK-based company I ordered from will deliver to the US (I’m not sure on price of postage though) - but you can check the amount before ordering - you don’t have to register or sign up beforehand - and they do accept paypal too if easier?

Good luck with it mate - let us know if you do find any cheaper / not in bulk etc…

some bulk-buy USB Cases…

a bluray sized USB & Disc Case (50 cases for $40 plus delivery):-

there is a ‘make an offer’ option - and may well be worth emailing and asking them for a reduced order?

the LDBMart ebay store - http://stores.ebay.com/LDBMART

a bluray sized USB Case (100 cases for $50 plus delivery):-

a bluray sized USB case (50 cases for $50 plus delivery):-

a smaller sized USB case (50 cases at $40 plus delivery):-

a 3-in-1 bluray sized USB Case (50 cases at $50 plus delivery):-

a smaller sized USB Case (100 cases for $65 plus delivery):-

a larger range of USB Cases can be found at their online store - https://shop.sunpack.com/category-s/136.htm

some smaller / alternative USB Cases & Boxes…

I did find some smaller USB Cases on the US amazon - they are kind of cool and do the job - though could be a bit small and finicky to get some artwork or logo on, and may not fit all USB flash drives?

Anyway, they are $15.99 + delivery for 20 USB Cases, here:-

link - https://www.amazon.com/Clear-Holder-Magnetic-Closure-SH1USB/dp/B019HIN57A

^ there are a few of these on amazon - with differing quantities and prices.

A narrow photo cover sleeved USB Box - $15 with free delivery, here:-

link - https://www.amazon.com/Modern-Flash-Drive-Photo-Cover/dp/B00E1LRJPS/

A black Photo Box with photo sleeve on the front - $9.99 with free delivery, here:-

(You’d need some sponge/foam or something else to hold the USB drive in place - but looks ok other than that)

link - https://www.amazon.com/Neil-Enterprises-Inc-Black-Photo/dp/B01D1XSPNQ/

Obviously there are the good old solid USB pouch-style cases - great for USB storage - though no photo sleeve or room to label the many USB drives as to what is individually on them…

Available for $9.50 plus delivery, here:-

link - https://www.amazon.com/ZXUY-Capability-Flash-Drives-Black/dp/B00ML76SN8/

^ there are many of these on amazon - with differing quantities and prices.

For storing those back-up external Hard Drives these may be of interest - $5.89 with free delivery, here:-

(transparent-ish with photo/art sleeve to label the Hard Drive Case)

link - https://www.amazon.com/Zeroyoyo-Portable-Storage-Protection-Boxes/dp/B01MU58A6P/

^ there are many of these on amazon - with differing quantities, colours and prices - and also for 2.5" Hard Drives too.

These may be of interest (the individual boxes, rather than the larger box) - but look like a decent option. $7.32 plus delivery, here:-

(you’d need some sponge/foam etc to hold the USB drive in place)

Quality mate - though I have to admit I never noticed that the lightsabre was blue in the Struzan covers before (nor that Luke may have been wearing his get-up from ESB on ROTJ artwork) - I think it may be time for an eye test!

How are you doing with your set mate?

I had a go at trying my hand at a Kenner/Palitoy based trilogy 3-in-1 cover, but am struggling to find a picture/art to match with it.

this is my template (based on one of the links above)…

there are some decent quality Kenner sets/pictures here too (which I found online after finishing the template! lol):-

From the creators of The Captains and Chaos on the Bridge comes a new documentary for Deep Space Nine, What We Left Behind, and I am so excited I practically wet myself. The IndieGoGo campaign went up for it yesterday, and they’ve already raised more over $40,000 more than they asked for. Check it out! Its release can’t come soon enough for me.

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/what-we-left-behind-star-trek-deep-space-nine-doc

Nice one - looking forward to hearing about more of this 😃

I sort of lost interest in Trek due to Voyager and the poor start of Enterprise - as well as not having high expectations for the Discovery series (so far) and also a bit disappointed with the new films (as enjoyable ‘pop-corn movies riffing on the old stuff’ as they are).

That Axenar premise looked quite intriguing though.

If this ‘What We Left Behind’ comes to fruition I’ll have to dig out an re-read the excellent DS9 Companion once more 😃

IMDB closing down it's message boards

Puggo - Jar Jar’s Yoda said:

I found the IMDB forums useful for looking up obscure information. Unfortunately, many forums are shutting down as they are becoming a less and less justifiable cost and liability to moderate with so many trolls and bots.

Agreed mate, and the relatively anonymous mask of sitting behind the keyboard and posting hate and drivel has given rise to an army of trolls, baiters and bots - from news comments sections, to IT, to comedy - all across the media in general.

However, IMDB (a subsidiary of Amazon still?) is one of the few companies out there that could hire enough skilled/experienced moderators to do more of job weeding out the shite on their boards - though they have decided not to until it has become so bad they no longer want to be associated with their own boards.

It’s a bit disappointing to be honest from IMDB - as others have posted out - the trolls will still exist and just find new safer places to continue to post their hate/shite etc (NIMBY - but your yard is ok).

And the good, interesting and insightful posts lost for good…

A Star Wars USB Drive - <em>Box, Case, Tape, Tin, Frame, Figure &amp; Cover</em> Thread...
Time

Just thought I’d start a thread for something a little different - an alternative option to storing our precious Star Wars films etc on dvd and blu ray discs and in their respective cases and box sets…

Something that’s quite easy to do, uses a lot less ink, stores the films safely, is reasonably cheap - and still have their own artwork so to differentiate between the various Star Wars releases accumulated over the years…

With the humble USB flash drive becoming ever cheaper, more reliable and with increased storage sufficient enough to fit many, many films on a single device - I thought I’d give it a go backing up my Star Wars dvds onto some USB drives - and also knocking up some covers for the USB Drive Boxes (and USB Cases too)…

my USB Drive Box and Cover:-

Minion

^ The USB Box above cost £8.95 + delivery, from here:-

www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Window-Black-Artificial-Leather/dp/B00ULK8ITE

(click on the link above for more pictures - it is also available in white - and you can also get the USB Box for around £5 without the option for a photo cover).

The photo window size is 8.5cm by 8cm - I added an extra 0.5cm all around for the ‘artwork’ to fit in nicely.

It’s a decent quality box - with a magnetic seal, and sponge surrounding to house the all important USB drive.

There is also this similar USB Box for £4.60 (plus delivery), here:-

link - https://shop.photomart.co.uk/59168.html

I’ve also bought some of these bluray style USB Cases (5 cases for £8 delivered), here:-

link - http://www.leeds10.com/blu-ray-style-usb-case-clear-14mm-spine-with-insert-sleeve/

^ this case is the same size as many bluray cases (14mm spine) - is a good quality build - and the company delivers to many countries around the world 😃

See below for a couple of pictures of this USB Case being used with Rogue One & Harmy DeSpecialized Trilogy inksaver covers…

and I also found these smaller bluray/dvd style USB Cases - it measures in at 100 x 95 x 18mm (25 cases for £25 delivered), here:-

link - http://www.jetmedia.co.uk/flashdrives_cases.htm

For whatever reason there doesn’t seem to be a lot of USB Boxes or USB Cases available online, and the few that are have a minimum order of 100 or so from Chinese-based websites like alibaba.com & aliexpress.com, or US-based websites like shop.sunpack.com & premiumusb.com/ etc.

Some other USB Boxes are also quite expensive as they are often used by wedding photographers - and the magic word ‘wedding’ just seems to add £££s/$$$s to anything associated with one.

If you do come across any quality or cheap USB Boxes & USB Cases please post them up in here - thank you 😃

Some covers I made for the USB Box (mainly for ideas etc)…

(when I say ‘made’ I mean found on google or other places, resized them, edited them and then added some text to them using MS Paint with a few Star Wars fonts 😉 These were mainly for ideas etc - but feel free to use and improve upon…)

Basically, any art or logo etc that you like should be able to be easily cut down to size - and then printed off as a cover for a USB Box…

A good quality USB flash drive (ie, SanDisk or Kingston) costs around £15-20 for 64gb here in the UK - approximately $18-25 in US money.

I originally posted some USB flash drive covers in the ‘Star Wars DVD Covers’ thread - and interest and questions have been steadily coming in - so thought I’d start a thread on it.

Hopefully others will post their USB Boxes, USB Cases and covers too - or just to help us remember to back up our dvd and bluray discs - just in case…
