Apparently, people are still angry about the “War on Christmas.”

http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/13/politics/trump-values-voters-summit/index.html

President Donald Trump dove into America’s culture wars on Friday, touting his administration for “returning moral clarity to our view of the world” and ending “attacks on Judeo-Christian values.”

Trump, nine months into his presidency, has found it harder to get things done than the ease with which he made promises on the campaign trail, making speeches to adoring audiences like Friday’s in Washington key to boosting the President’s morale. And the audience at the Values Voter Summit, an annual socially conservative conference, didn’t fail to deliver.

“We are stopping cold the attacks on Judeo-Christian values,” Trump said to applause, before slamming people who don’t say “Merry Christmas.”

“They don’t use the word Christmas because it is not politically correct,” Trump said, complaining that department stores will use red and Christmas decorations but say “Happy New Year.” “We’re saying Merry Christmas again.”

The comment drew thunderous applause.

Heated debates over the “War On Christmas” have raged for years, with many on the right complaining that political correctness has made it less acceptable to say Merry Christmas. Trump has seized on these feelings, regularly telling primarily religious audiences that his presidency has made it acceptable to “start saying Merry Christmas again.”

“You go into a department store. When was the last time you saw ‘Merry Christmas?’ You don’t see it anymore,” Trump said on the campaign trail. “They want to be politically correct. If I’m president, you will see ‘Merry Christmas’ in department stores, believe me, believe me.”

Wishing everyone a very Happy Holiday season!

😃

Hope you do well in your sweater competition - and nice of your company to do things like this for it’s workers 😃

I think the A-Wings first appeared in ROTJ - though wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve been retroactively fitted into a later ‘Special Edition’ of Empire Strikes Back - or the animated tv series since etc.

This is my only ever SW t-shirt:-

I do have another Rogue One t-shirt - but it’s a little too big for me - so I’m waiting to grow into it as I age (eating more and exercising less 😉)

Did the ot.com ever do t-shirts and other merchandise? I remember years ago there was some talk of it? (though may be thinking of another site?)

NJVC Custom Blu-ray Set of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions now available on Mega

Great news! I got the OK from NJVC to share his sets on mega again! Harmy has given his approval as well. Go to this thread for more information on and previews of the sets themselves.

But as with anything else Despecialized, these projects should never be bought or sold.

Also you are required to own an own official copies of the Blu-rays or IV-VI of the HD Digital Downloads.

These requirements are to allay concerns of piracy, which could threaten the entire Despecilaized Project. So before you download anything here please obtain official copies of the Original Trilogy in HD. And please … please … DO NOT BUY OR SELL THESE!

I have built in a few barriers I will ask you to deal with before you can get the files to burn the blu-rays. This is not meant to keep anyone who wants copies for personal use from gaining access. Rather, it is meant to ensure that you must be intentional about getting them. I regret that this has to be so convoluted. My aim was to make NJVC’s sets as available as possible, but still make it inconvenient enough to keep my shares from being pirate bait. Follow the steps, be patient, and you will obtain the files you seek, and all without torrents. 😃

I also have a guide to burning these sets posted here below in the most comprehensive a way as I could think of. Mods, if you spot something there that I could improve, please let me know.

Steps for obtaining NJVC Sets

1) Go to https://www.proboards.com/register and set up an account.

2) Now go to http://swesbrotjbrmls.freeforums.net/ and log in with your new credentials.

3) Open the “General Discussion” Folder

4) Click the “NJVC” Subject. This will contain a download link that says “rars”.

5) That link will download a password protected rar file called “NJVC OOT BR MLs”. The page may tell you that there is an error with the preview, but this didn’t interfere with anything when I tested it.

6) Download and extract the file with the password “Speci@lEditionsAre2ShortSighted”. The extracted package will contain a single text file Called “NJVC OOT BR MLs”.

(^Note^- If you do not already have a file extracting program, I used winrar to archive the file, but there many programs that can unrar it for free. Here’s a list of several such programs for windows. The Unarchiver should work for Macs. And here is a helpful article on how to extract archived files in Windows and Mac OS.)

7) This text file will contain links to mega folders for each disc as well as lists of the links you will need for all the individual rar files. The folder links are only provided in case you would like to import them to your own mega.nz account before downloading. It’s probably not feasible to download the entire folder all at once. All these links are in free accounts, which have a 5 Gig transfer limit. That means you’ll probably only be able to download a maximum of 10 files before getting a window telling you to wait several hours before continuing to download.

Also keep in mind there may be a “rush” on these files once I post this, so if you run into bandwidth caps because of that, there isn’t anything I can do.

8) For this reason, I recommend using the download manager “FreeRapid Downloader”. It will let you download several files at once, as well as saving your progress if the process is aborted midway through with the wait message. You can get that here. But you will still likely be limited to 10 files every six hours or so. Remember, patience is key.

For more details on using FreeRapid Downloader, check out Section 4, Steps 1-6 of “The Ultimate Introductory Guide to Harmy’s Star Wars Trilogy Despecialized Editions”, found here.

9) Once you have all the rar files downloaded, extract them with your chosen unarchiving software.

(^Note^- Depending on your extractor and its settings, you will likely need to have free disk space for the rars as well as space in which the ISO files can be reassembled and saved. And these files are massive. The space required for all the rars plus the extracted isos for all three films is close to 450 gigabytes. Make sure you have the disk space necessary before you start. Also, although you will be using the same extraction method as used for extracting the link list, it will be much slower because of the size of the files. Make sure to allow about 30 minutes to an hour for the extraction of each set of rars.)

10) Once the extraction process is complete for each of the rar sets, you will have the following six ISO files:

Star Wars Despecialized 2.7 BD50.iso
Star Wars Documentaries.iso
The Empire Strikes Back Despecialized 2.0 BD50.iso
The Empire Strikes Back - Documentaries BD25.iso
Return of the Jedi Despecialized BD50.iso
ROTJ & SW Trilogy Documentaries BD50.iso

(^Note^- ISO files are the digital images of the videos and file structures to be burned to the blu-ray disc, but it is not necessary to burn the ISOs to discs to view them. You can mount the file as a virtual drive to have your computer view the file as if it were a disc in a drive. Here is an article on how to do that in Windows. The process is even simpler in Mac OS. If you still want to burn them to discs, read on.)

11) For the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back Documentary Discs a 25 gigabyte blu-ray will suffice. For all the others, you will need dual layer 50 gigabyte blu-rays. I recommend Verbatim Brand discs, as they are some of most reliable I’ve used and least likely to end up as coasters.

12) Obtain a blu-ray burner drive.

13) Now that you have the necessary ISOs, blu-ray discs, and blu-ray burning drive you’ll need disc burning software. For this, the best method is to use ImgBurn.

(Edit: But based on continuing feedback, it seems there may still be issues with both ImgBurn’s official download source and more stripped down versions that might seem clean. This is frustrating because I still think ImgBurn is the best way to go about burning these projects. But as such, I’m removing all download links to it from this guide until such time as I can be sure I can point you to a version that I know will not cause users any headaches. In the mean time, ImgBurn is still readily availible, but obtain it at your own risk. I will post a new link in this guide as soon as I can verfy that a copy is completely free of any unwanted software. Stay tuned.)

14) Connect your drive and load the blank disc.

15) You’re ready burn the ISOs to your blu-ray! Follow the steps below.

Steps for burning NJVC Sets

  1. Open ImgBurn and select “Write image file to disc”.

1

  1. Next, Under “Source” use The “Browse for a file…” button to navigate to the ISO you want to burn and select it.

2

  1. Under “Destination”, select the blu-ray drive that you will be using to burn the disc.

3

  1. Make sure the box next to “Test Mode” is unchecked.

4

5)* This step is optional, but I strongly recommend it. Set the “Write Speed” to “1x”, the lowest possible setting. This will mean the initial burn will probably take over an hour, but reducing the burn speed means reducing the chances of burning errors.

5

6)* This step is also optional, but I recommend it as well. Make sure the box next to “Verify” is checked. This will cause the system to scan the disc for errors after the burn is complete. This will add another hour or so onto processing time, but it is a double check so you can be sure the disc has burned properly without any errors.

6

  1. Click the “Write” button to begin the burning process.

7

8)* After the initial burn is complete, the disc will eject. If you selected “Verify” in step 6, the computer will attempt to reload the disc to scan it for errors. Motorized trays will allow the computer to do this automatically, but non-motorized drives will not be capable of this. The result will be the following warning message:

8

This is normal. Reload the disc again manually, then click “OK” as the prompt directs. ImgBurn will scan your disc for errors, probably taking about an hour. When it finds none, it will eject the disc again, announce that the burn has been successful, and you’re done!

This doesn’t work with Jdownloader or unarchiver. Not sure where I went wrong.

Mate, you didn’t really need to quote the whole post by solkap to respond with your post - please remove the quoted section.

Thank you.

dahmage - nice suggestion re http://www.7-zip.org for Windows users. It is free, easy to use, and I found it has fewer issues when extracting files than using winrar or winzip (in my experience, anyway 😃)

how did this happen?

  1. The official sources are/were TehParadox (which is closed) and MySpleen (where invitations are not available anymore).
  2. When a newbie asks “where can I get them” on this forum, the 2 ou 3 same guys always answer with jokes, or “read the first post” (which is outdated), or don’t answer at all, or forbid access to newbies (you must be a member for 6 months before getting the private links, which is quite justified and understandable, but can give the impression of a closed club).
  3. If you want to learn more about how to get the Despecialized Editions, you have to read 161 pages of private jokes. And do not try to give your opinion or to answer to a post, you’ll receive “get out of here” or “ridiculous” for answer from some people who think that this forum is their playground, even though the vast majority of members are kind and caring.

On the other hand, if you pay on eBay, you receive a beautiful package with a box, inner sleeves and beautifully printed blurays.

I am obviously outraged that people get paid on eBay for the volunteer and free work of other people like Harmy, Poita, Adywan or DrDre. No one should claim $ 100 on eBay for Harmy’s work, it is not fair. And I’m happy to be a (young new) member of this forum, where I can learn a lot of things about SW, and share my passion with people who are, for the most part, extremely sympathetic.

But I understand why many people end up finding eBay easier than this particular forum …

You raise some good valid points ZigZig - and I appreciate your efforts in here to try and come up with a solution to these issues.

To try to answer some of your points - and in the interests of clarity for others reading up about this topic…

Harmy’s Dspecialised Editions are widely available on both public and private torrent sites - in many differing formats and sizes. That new posters state on here that they searched ‘high and low’ on the public torrent sites and still can’t find them is somewhat baffling. Also baffling are those that say they don’t know how to use torrent sites and then ask to join myspleen…

Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity.

In Harmy’s first post in his Despecialised Edition thread on this site is the linked ‘The Ultimate Introductory Guide’ -
which chronicles how to obtain the DE.

I have doubts on whether a user of normal technical capability can actually understand and follow those instructions.

Harmy also has a facebook page - chronicling how to obtain his Despecialised Editions - via ‘The Ultimate Introductory Guide’ linked on it.

And a twitter page too.

There is also a youtube video out there with ‘The Ultimate Introductory Guide’ linked in on how to obtain the DE.

Those pages might not have enough visibility to make a difference. I wonder what is the main outlet that people find out about these sorts of fan edits and restorations. YouTube is an incredibly large force — maybe people are finding out there, and then get roped into this resale scam.

I think (though am not certain) that the above video, with ‘The Ultimate Introductory Guide’ linked in, is available on other similar video sites too.

Please note that the first post of the ‘Myspleen Invite’ thread HAS indeed been updated.

Re the 2 or 3 guys who answer ‘newbies’ with jokes etc - yes, at times they could be a little more helpful and can a bit sarcastic. However, please note that many of the posts in the various Despecialised / myspleen threads have many, many new people to this site who haven’t read that first post on how to obtain them, nor have they taken the time to actually read through the thread, or around the site - they often just ask how to get them - repeat it a few days later (or more) and then never post again.

I will concede that not reading the first post is pretty stupid. However, reading through multi-hundred page threads is something that I don’t think we should ask of people. And many people probably don’t arrive here at the front page — they’re probably directed to Harmy’s or the MySpleen invite page without knowing what’s beyond those parts.

You can’t ask people to take time you don’t know if they have to do something.

I imagine many posters pop in a few of these quality Despecialised threads from time to time - after seeing the thread has been bumped - thinking there may be some new additions to the work, or a new alternative take, or that it may have inspired someone to do something similar, or perhaps an update on the project, or just a good conversation on the topic at hand etc…

…but, no - it’s yet another ‘can I have a link’ type post.

For the posters who have been here a while… seeing quality threads bumped by people consistently and repeatedly asking questions that have already been answered many, many times - on a subject to which the answer was staring ‘newbies’ in the face all that time is quite frustrating - well… patience can, somewhat understandably, wear a little thin.

I honestly don’t understand this frustration that many people seem to have. These one-post wonders are only that — one-post wonders. After they’re done with their innocuous question-asking, they have absolutely zero impact on the forum whatsoever, except for a feeling of “clutter” that some might have. And regular conversation of the topic at hand can continue unhindered. If people aren’t talking about the topic, that’s because people don’t want to talk about it or have nothing to say. That’s not the fault of the newbies.

Perhaps we should have a forum feature allowing users to ignore accounts less than a day old?

However, if anyone oversteps the mark in treatment to fellow posters - new or old - it can be reported to the moderators on here.

If a member on here chooses to only give a small number of invites to a few fellow members that have been here for 6 months or more, then that is his/her prerogative and is down to that specific member - it does not reflect on this site. It also has little-to-nothing to do with this site.

This site was not the only way to join myspleen.

This site has no affiliation with myspleen - although some people are members of both sites.

For those wishing to join up at myspleen it has repeatedly been pointed out that myspleen’s own forums remain open to join, at:-

http://www.myspleen.org/forums/

It is on that forum that many questions could likely be answered better than on here.

It is also possible, that contributing to those forums, will likely get them the information they desire - as well as likely being made aware of if/when myspleen invites will be made available once again.

The problem is, we need to find a way to direct more of the newbies to go over there before they ask for invites or information over here.

Re artwork for the Despecialised Editions - there is a whole section of the ot.com dedicated to helping provide covers, discart, chapter inserts and artwork etc for near on all things Star Wars. There are many differing options to choose from, ranging from quality work from professionals in their field - to people like me who struggle with MS Paint…

There is also information including info on how to print on discs, which type of paper is best, which printers will print direct to disc, how to make a boxset, alternatives to storing films on discs, which dvd or blu ray cases are decent - and cheapest to buy from, and how to make your own covers etc…

I mention this as I received an email not long ago from a person who had bought a Despecialised Edition boxset from ebay - it certainly was NOT ‘a beautiful package with a box, inner sleeves and beautifully printed blurays’…

It was printed on cheap ‘letter quality’ paper on which the ink had run through to on the other side, it had cheap cases which had cracked in transit (or before?), and the films themselves were on a very cheap brand of blu ray disc - and would only work on some blu ray players.

I would assume that the quality of the counterfeit disks would vary. Obviously people with no care for what they’ve made who just want to make a quick buck is a big part of the market, but the plural of anecdote is not data. I wonder how many people there who want to make a quick buck but also have good workmanship!

So ‘buyer beware’ - for they are likely dealing with the type of person who goes against the wishes of the man who gave us these Editions for free, profits from the work by that man & many, many others, sells them on at an extortionate price - and then apparently sends out substandard / shoddy sets.

Re the njvc Custom Blu Ray Set…

njvc very kindly put his customised project of the Despecialised Editions up for people to download - for free on Mega - and some ****s still downloaded and put them up for sale on/at various places like cons, ebay, other online selling sites etc. We now know that some people on myspleen (when invites were still being given out) have done the same in downloading them and then selling them on.

This somewhat nullifies a few claims seen on here along the lines of ‘restricted availability leads to higher demand and more expensive sets sold online - so make them more easily available’.

It seems to be a pretty reasonable prediction based on supply and demand, but things can get weird with digital products where there is no actual limit to the amount of product that can be distributed. I’d love to see what the economics at play are here.

I’m not getting into a tree of quotes type discussion, though will say this…

  1. There was no ‘malice’ intended - or attributed to - by my words. For the purpose of clarity, nor ‘stupidity’ either.

  2. Your doubts on ‘whether a user of normal technical capability can actually understand and follow those instructions’ are seemingly just that - your doubts. There is little evidence that people have not been able to follow the TUIG - or have asked for more clarification / easier to follow guide.

  3. YouTube, facebook, twitter, this site, public torrent and private torrent sites (as well as word-of-mouth) - should be enough ‘visibility’ to give people the information required to learn to acquire the DE, for free. There’s even a wiki page for the Despecialized Editions - with links to Harmy’s social media sites therein. It also appears Harmy’s work also ranks highly on some of the online search engines - and feature articles on his work along with some nudging people in the right direction to acquire them.

  4. New posters don’t have to read through ALL the thread - the 1st post, some random pagers in the middle of the thread, and the last couple of pages would likely give them any info/updates required - and doesn’t seem a lot to ask, or expect. Posting ‘can I have a link?’ below a post that actually gives a link - or ‘can I have a myspleen invite?’ after a post above saying ‘there are no invites being given out at present to myspleen’ can be quite frustrating for some posters on here after a while.

  5. Re the quality of counterfeit disks and workmanship - that was really answered in the next paragraph with ‘buyer beware’, and yet also in the previous paragraphs with the information provided to make their own set - at a quality that should be to the satisfaction of that person 😉

Top 10 mojos

Aye, when I were a wee lad we lived in black and white - we couldn’t afford colour 😉

Around the age of 6-10 and finding a 2p coin on the floor was it - few other things mattered (an age before girls, footy, games, and school mattered much) - you were going to be a rich and happy man with 4 mojos in your pocket to dish out with your best mates. And mojos were boss!

Finding a 5p coin meant you could a pack of polo mints - but that’s for another thread, and time 😃

I have edited the title of your post ‘I’m finally getting the OOT on vhs’ as to not confuse anyone looking at your original title and mistakenly think that the OOT is going to be available soon / has been announced etc.
