‘Cyrille Regis: Ex-West Brom and England forward dies aged 59’

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42687285

I was fortunate to play against him - only in a 5-a-side game many ears ago - yet this man was not only a quality sportsman, nor just a professional footballer, nor just a ‘mere’ man - this guy was a legend, a gentleman, and stood against racism and hatred of those that were considered ‘different’ at a time where it was considered ‘the norm’ to hate those that were.

RIP Cyrille.

You’ll Never Walk Alone.

But at the end of TESB we are left with Han frozen and the rebellion baseless. In TLJ we are left with the characters intact but the Resistance in shambles, but with hope. But in TESB, we have a galaxy wide Empire that is strong and unwavering. In TLJ, we have a First Order just beginning its conquest, not yet cemented or truly in power yet. The crawl uses the word reigns, but I take that to mean there is no force to oppose them rather than they have actually taken over anything and the rest of the text of the crawl agrees with that as does the movie dialog. It also provides a reason why Leia’s call was not answered. But the final scene in the stable shows that Luke had again brought hope and if word has reached Canto Bight, it will spread across the galaxy and give courage to those who want to resist the First Order’s conquest.

Yes, but that’s where our interpretations differ. TLJ makes a strong case, that the FO is a pretty much unstoppable force. Apart from the crawl, there’s the statement in the film, that the FO will control all major systems in weeks. This might not be very credible, but this is the message the film tries to get across. Then there’s the fact, that the Resistance/rebellion is decimated. People might be inspired, but it is hope without substance, wishful thinking at best. It is a spark that has to evaporate an ocean of bad. It may turn into a great big fire, but it may also be extinguished. If the latter is not the case, there’s no more tension in the film, as the heroes will prevail no matter what. The situation at the end of TESB is quite different. The Rebel Alliance may be without a base, but it has a fleet and personel. It has a real hope of defeating the Empire, more than just inspiration. There are unresolved story threads, like what will become of Han Solo? Is Darth Vader really Luke’s father? Is the Emperor really so powerful, that he can boss around Darth Vader? What is left to resolve after TLJ? I would say very little, other than the rebellion has to somehow reform, and beat the FO.

I tend to agree with this. “So this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause” we had to wait 20 years for any sort of resistance or rebellion to rise again the Empire. Rebels has established that it happened more or less at the same time, with several cells rebelling in several places. But that was 15 years after RotS. Unless we have a huge time jump now, it’s going to be hard to have a huge showdown RotJ-style in IX and make it believable. But I hope they pull it off if they decide to go for it.

I wonder if they’re going to do something different for IX that not the final Rebels vs Empire and Rey vs Kylo confrontation. I really hope so.

The big difference. At the end of ROTS, you have the long established Galactic Republic turn into the first Galactic Empire. That means all the institutions, all the structure, everything remains in place and there is just a change at the top. In the ST, we have the capitol of the new Republic destroyed along with the fleet. The First Order is moving in (present action, not yet completed) so they will have to come in and establish a new structure and build it from scratch. On some world they may just be able to step into the Republic’s shoes, other they will have to fight to gain control. They cannot just walk into the role of the Republic like the Emperor did in ROTS. So the situation is entirely different. If Leia can raise a fleet in time, they could still stop the First Order from gaining any real power in the remains of the Republic and many of the Republic world will likely form a new govenment on another world. There is no easy path here like the Emperor spent so many years arranging for himself. The First Order was always about conquest of the new Republic while the Empire was about subjugation of the extant old Republic.

It will not take 20 years to gather allies to fight back. It could happen in weeks or months and be realistic.

How? It took the Allies three years to mount an attack against the Axis powers in WWII, who like the FO conquered continental Europe in a matter of weeks. The allies were mostly sovereign nations with their military power intact. The Resistance is in ruins. Even if they still have allies, it takes years to form and build an organisation with a unified agenda. The weeks or months prognosis is completely unrealistic even in the GFFA.

30 million deaths on the Eastern Front say otherwise mate - our Allies in the East fought and attacked the Axis Powers throughout that period of time. And that’s not taking into account aerial raids, naval engagements, and guerrilla warfare on Axis infrastructure and selected targets by the Western Allies during that period.

Who knows where Episode IX will take us - though it wouldn’t be unreasonable to see Resistance adopt a guerrilla warfare style of fighting / attacking the FO (especially the FO hierarchy) if there are no additional Allies to further/bolster their cause.

I share your discontent, Dre. Pretty good article, I agree with the observation that appeals to hope in the film felt hollow.

The Empire podcast was decent, not very deep but gave some insight on RJ’s thinking. The hosts were alright but their gender political take on the film was cringy.

Let’s not have any more discussion of that in here mate.

Yes, though I don’t know if I’d really call that fooling. Kylo should’ve known better, the Rebels weren’t fooled, they were inspired. Whether Leia knew something was up is open to interpretation (my guess is she ultimately knew exactly what was going on).

Her knowing would at least explain why she left the dice behind, but my opinion (just mine so everyone stay calm) is that Johnson just creates individual moments without worrying too much if they really fit together into a coherent whole.

So Poe seems to save the entire fleet from the dreadnought one moment and seems to have gotten the bomber crews all killed for nothing the next.

No, he didn’t get them killed for nothing… though it is said by Leia that the price paid was too high; also ‘Dead heroes - no leaders’.

And we watch the Jedi books burned up with satisfaction one moment as we know we need to move on from the past, and are relieved to see they survived later. And so on.

‘Satisfaction’? ‘Relieved’? Maybe these were the emotions or feelings you were feeling at the time? - but possibly not others’ emotions.

Some info & help for NeverarGreat’s Starlight Project edits of the Sequel Trilogy…

NeverarGreat’s The Starlight Project Edits:-

• Episode 7 - The Force Awakens - Starlight (Released)

• Episode 8 - The Last Jedi - The Starlight Project Part 2 (WIP) - a Work In Progress

• Episode 9 - The Starlight Project Addendum: The Rise of Skywalker (Vestigial Ideas) - a Vestigial Ideas thread

An overview of The Force Awakens - Starlight (Released)

NeverarGreat said:

A lower bitrate version of this edit is available via Private Message.

This is a comprehensive fanedit of The Force Awakens based on Hal 9000’s TFA Restructured.

So what are the goals of this edit? As I see it, they are threefold:

First, to heighten the drama of the story. This is done through many changes, for example cutting down and re-editing the much maligned Rathtar attack, interconnecting character actions on Starkiller Base, and moving the destruction of the New Republic to the end of the film.

Second, to illuminate and strengthen the characters. Each of the major characters is refined through cuts and additions to enhance their presence and hint at their arcs throughout the trilogy. Rey is darker, Finn is less jokey, Kylo more conflicted, and even Poe gains some new depth. Even minor characters are given more presence in the film such as the pirates of Maz’s castle or Resistance officers.

Third and finally, to more fully realize the world of the film. This is done through restoring several deleted scenes, restructuring scenes to enhance the illusion of the passage of time, and adding shots which provide new perspectives of the world.

An overview of The Last Jedi - The Starlight Project Part 2 (WIP)

Putting my Starlight Project Part 2 Ideas here for now:

While the Force Awakens was a flawed film, it only required a modest restructure to improve the story immensely. The Last Jedi, while it ascends to greater heights, has some deeper structural issues. For example, there is absolutely no time-jump between movies, and immediately starts with a ticking clock that leaves no room for intervening character growth.
This edit, while not solving the time-jump issue, will at least allow for a more leisurely pace at the beginning of the story. Here is how it could begin:

The FIRST ORDER reigns.
Having destroyed the
Republic capitol, General
Hux has surrounded
the Resistance base and
awaits the surrender of
Leia Organa.

Leia, now the leader of the
defeated Republic, still hopes
for the return of the Last Jedi,
and is secretly preparing her
forces for a final desperate
attack against the ascendant
First Order.

Meanwhile, in deep space
aboard his massive command
ship, Supreme Leader Snoke
prepares to receive Kylo Ren,
son of the Republic and heir
to Snoke’s dark throne…

We open on Kylo Ren facing the wrath of Snoke, and after he smashes his helmet in frustration we cut to Rey giving Luke the lightsaber. The Ahch-to scenes are brought to the front of the film for the most part, with Rey’s communication with Kylo being the only cross-cutting. Now Rey is on the island for an undetermined amount of time, just like Luke’s training on Dagobah. Near the end of Luke’s lessons, we return to the Resistance plot and Poe’s attack on the Destroyer. From there the story progresses as usual, with some cuts or additions for time. The Canto Bight section is quite problematic however, and there will probably be more substantial changes to that section. The final act is excellent, and should require little to no change.

Looking to acquire projects on here? Then please read this…

(and take the time to look around to see how this place works - and doesn’t - before posting requests for projects on here - thank you)

I have found a Fan Edit / Preservation Project I am interested in - but don’t know how to get / acquire / download it?

The OriginalTrilogy•com is a community where a ‘read first - post after’ mantra benefits everyone here - especially for the ‘Fan Project’ sections. We appreciate some may be excited to see the projects featured on this site - information on how to acquire them is readily available - yet patience is also required. If you bring impatience, entitlement, aggressive or vitriolic attitudes, personal attacks, or toxicity… then expect some choice words in return - and also expect your stay on here to be a short one.

Do NOT create a new thread asking ‘for a link to’… to Harmy’s Despecialized Editions, TN1’s 4K77/80/83, adywan’s Revisited Edits, the Hal9000 Edits, or any other project listed on this site. It is for you to take 5 minutes and go find the relevant project on here, for you to then read up on what the project is about, and then how to acquire it. Do not ask / expect others to do this simple task for you - we’ve had hundreds of such entitled requests over the years - and the patience of OT•com community members understandably wears thin. If thousands of people have managed to find, read up on, and then acquire these projects listed on here over the years… then you can too. A little patience - and a ‘read first - post after’ mantra - goes a long way on here…

These ‘signpost’ threads, featuring useful info and links to the five most sought-after fan projects, may be of interest…

Some info & help for Harmy’s Despecialized Editions of the Original Trilogy…

Some info & help for Puggo’s Grande 16mm preservations of the Original Trilogy…

Some info & help for TN1’s 4K77, 4K80 & 4K83 preservation projects of the Original Trilogy…

Some info & help for adywan’s Revisited Editions of the Original Trilogy…

Some info & help for the Hal 9000 Edits of the Prequel & Sequel Trilogies (+ more)

Obviously there are countless more projects in the four main Project Index threads in each of the ‘Fan Project’ sections of the site.

sorry if old news. also, yes this is just speculation, but believable i think.

Sorry mate - I saw the name ‘Mike Zeroh’ and stopped reading.

Hopefully the trailer will be out very soon 😃

I don’t know who Mike Zeroh is, but i did google him before i posted that link, and he seems like some kinda social media guy, so maybe i shouldn’t have posted it. I generally avoid twitter and youtube so I am in the dark to some of this. Is he generally worthless?

Personally, I think he’s pure clickbait - seems he’ll take something in the news & puts a spin/theory on it, adds a clickbait title, claims it’s from a ‘trusted source’…

Am sure he’s quite good at it - and some people do seemingly like that sort of thing.

For me, zeroh credibility (a pun that has surely been made thousands of times before 😉).
