An essay written by JGL on Luke Skywalker - worth reading. Even though we ultimately disagree, he clarifies some great points already presented in this thread several times, and he does acknowledge that those who didn’t like the movie aren’t entirely wrong on Luke’s characterization or the movie itself.

If already posted, forgive me.

Quality article that - enjoyed reading it - nice one.

Idea: Fixing Luke in <em><strong>THE LAST JEDI</strong></em>
Time

Towards the end of The Last Jedi, Luke was completely ruined. The projection scene was stupid. Why? Because he didn’t project himself with the green saber, which is the best saber!

CHANGE LIST:

  • Make projection-Luke’s saber green.
  • That’s literally the only thing I want to change.

Well played good sir - well played…

Star Wars Despecialized Editions - Custom Bluray Set (Released)

A Bluray burner is $60 on Newegg. That’s pretty cheap nowadays. It’s not an unobtainable thing.

Good point, but why buy a Blu Ray burner just for these discs? Might as well just pay the $60 for the deluxe edition the greedy dude is selling and be done with it.

If you can buy a blu ray burner and learn to to burn discs you have acquired skills and equipment required to also burn many other projects to disc - ie, other Star Wars Fan Edits / Preservations on here - and are also in a position to even to help others out too, if so minded, and able.

Let alone not giving money to a bunch of freeloading money-grabbing leeches 😃

Of course, there are other ways other than having to watch films via disc these days - the humble usb drive will play films on many a modern tv set - or through a dvd player with that usb function, or something like a chromecast type device (especially useful for older tv’s), or a media centre set-up of sorts.

Everybody lay off the insults then.

To be honest that what i would hope…, I found out about this edit through internet news and various cast members commenting on it with tear drops again and again.

It is a sad state of affairs… I don’t know that is why i say the 70’s 80’s and 90’s did it right now i do think there has been a loss of direction relating to “real” people which is gone further than before because it is so “fake” in a way and even though older films were still “fake” they just were not as fake as it is now. It’s pretty much completely unrelatable for a normal person to connect in a normal way…

The motivation of this edit is the big question.

You’re right, the motivation of this edit isn’t actually to make it seem more “real” (scare quotes yours). It’s to make it more like the sausage fests of yesteryear.

But when those older blockbusters were made… I don’t recall hordes of women complaining about how the women are portayed. They were perhaps not that bothered. Men were not complaining about how the men were portrayed. Like wise nobody ever used to bring up these political issues when watching a film regarding gender and sexism. Because the people are characters they are not real.

But we now have even less real characters and people screaming about sexism and social issues feminism so on. Is this an American thing? Is this like an American political argument that is raging across social media or something? Agenda driven outcrys aimed at calling for all these different social groups to be represented in Media?
It’s all a bit odd right now… Looking back i can remember politics were not injected by outsiders in to entertainment like this.

I think it is weird.

Yeah… no-one in the UK has ever gone to town for equality or for a better life… it’s not just an American thing, and you know it.

‘I don’t recall hordes of women complaining about how the women are portayed’, ‘people screaming about sexism and social issues feminism so on’, ‘Looking back i can remember politics were not injected by outsiders in to entertainment like this’… maybe you should look up history of groups fighting for equality back then, and to what they were targeting, and how they were organising themselves.

Plus, using terms like that, along with your heroin allusions and insults earlier in the thread… well, I strongly suggest you stop.

(Now To start off with. Here’s Movie News i posted on The Random thoughts Thread)

‘Lord Of The Rings’ And ‘The Hobbit’ Director Peter Jackson is prepping an in-depth 3D documentary on World War I with rare unreleased interviews and newly restored and colorized footage. It will air on BBC One this fall for the WWI 100th anniversary! Watch this video and Peter will tell you all about it! https://youtu.be/vn6HrP_LTu8

Why colorize the footage?

I think the answer is in the trailer mate.

I might have the answer as to how to get Disney to listen to our pleas for the unaltered versions. A long time ago my sister created a non-profit called Randomkid, thing is I can use it to petition and get a word in with the Disney higher ups because this non-profit has friends in high places. If anyone would want to prepare a script or any other requests I should bring up please do tell me.

Mate, this isn’t Reddit - please try and ensure the thread title gives a decent overview as to it’s content.

Random Opinions on appearances:
I liked that Hux looked more sallow and haunted.
I liked how Leia looked more regal.
I liked how Snoke was a sassy jerk.
I liked how C-3PO and R2-D2 looked a lot more realistic somehow.
I liked Holdo’s…everything.

Oh, I agree with this. Very much.

Same here - the scenes with the OT characters were pretty much spot on for me, and the new ST characters evolved - though I do wish to have seen more of Rey & Luke on Ahch-To - which we seemingly may do via the deleted/cut scenes.

The scene with Luke and Leia together was touching (a lot of dust in the cinema that day 😉) yet also found the Luke and R2 scene also emotive (damn these dusty cinemas!) - beautifully played and acted, even by R2…

Very much looking forward to Episode IX…

I think it was shabby that they cut out Rey’s third lesson. It’s just so sloppy to set it up and then let it drop.

Hopefully something our Fan Edit geniuses can rectify from any coming extra content - without those pesky timecodes that were on the TFA deleted scenes - going by the deleted clip what was shown on the Star Wars Show yesterday 😃

The ST is meant to be part of a larger overarching story.

Again this is just your desire/opinion. I don’t care about the development of characters from PT to OT, and furthermore trying to use that as a justification for calling character development a “plot hole” just doesn’t work.

Which is your opinion, and arguing semantics.

TV’s Frink said:

Words mean things. Plot holes are something specific, and are not what you are describing. It’s not semantics.

But ok. I said I give up before, I mean it this time.

“Arguing semantics is a derogatory term used by one party in an argument to resist the other party’s attempt to question the terms and language used in the argument.”

I’ve explained what my issues are with the ST, which is the point, I’m trying to get across. Despite this you continue to avoid the topic, by arguing about the meaning of a word (semantics) I used to summarize my argument. A word I would gladly replace by a more appropriate term, if that makes you happy, as I’ve indicated. Ergo, you are arguing semantics. I would like to get away from semantics, and discuss the issues I’ve raised with those posters, interested in discussing them.

Actually, the full quora.com post is…

'“Arguing semantics” is a derogatory term used by one party in an argument to resist the other party’s attempt to question the terms and language used in the argument. This is generally done because the current terms favor his / her position.

In this situation the first party will often feign impatience – “Come on, let’s stop quibbling about semantics and get on with things!”’

I don’t see Frink stating ‘arguing semantics’? Do you?

And it certainly wasn’t used as a derogatory term by him - as you inferred by mentioning it in your post.

A word of warning - tread carefully when trying to cast aspersions of using a ‘derogatory term’ onto others.

That is all - thank you.

How many 'Bad' Star Wars movies could you take before you check out?
Time

TMBTM said:

A new SW movie, to me, it’s like listening to the new album of a band I love: I have to, at least, give it a listen, even if I didn’t love EVERY previous albums. I still like the idea of watching a new Star Wars movie and it’s more than enough for me to buy my ticket even when I’m not too crazy about the synopsis (Solo…)
Although, I think that, with the years, I tend to rewatch less often new movies in general (except when I’m making fanedits, of course!). So I’m NOT making them “iconic” to me anymore. They are just movies, without nostalgia attachment, maybe with less passion as before too. But it’s not because they are bad, it’s because I simply care less. I still find interesting and sometime even moving to follow the stories of a world I was so passionate about (and that I still love) but it simply can’t be the same as before.
(That being said: The Last Jedi was very good and it totaly works for me as a worthy SW sequel!)

Away with this well reasoned/rounded logic and approach to watching SW films - it has no place on here 😉

To me it is nuts to be upset about diversity in the Star Wars universe. How many aliens and space weirdos have graced the silver screen in a Star Wars movie? Creatures of every size and shape and color imaginable and yet people are still hung up on women and minorities playing any sort of prominent role. I don’t get it; ‘what a boring, dull place would this world be if everyone looked just like me’.

Quoted for truth my friend.

My ideal box set. Would this be possible?
Time

Would it better to split the boxset into two parts? One part with the films themselves - and the other part with bonus material (which will could likely change and evolve over time as new releases and anniversaries come and go)…

Amaray do a 24 disc case 😃

(and I’d back it all up to a large external portable hard drive too 😉)

An intriguing concept regardless mate - good luck with it, I hope you (and we all) achieve this dream 😃
