That looks fantastic.
That looks fantastic.
I’d love to go over it and verify frames but all my time is being spent on another project now.
I always like the grindhouse versions too.
… I just hope that this near professional quality transfer doesn’t paint a giant target on the backs of everyone who worked on it. I’d like to see ESB and (especially) RotJ given a similar restoration which can’t happen if the lawyers appear.
Speaking as one of the collaborators on this, I’m not worried about a target. Lucasfilm could easily nullify our work by releasing their own version. I don’t think they’d want the negative publicity they’d probably get if they did come after us as well.
There is a certain level of detail naturally present in the SE prints that I just can’t find in some of the greatest of IB tech scans. I wouldn’t mind a ‘Cinema Despecialized’ edition that uses mostly SE 35mm footage, plugging in 77 35mm footage whenever necessary. Or if some technical genius could digitally average the two together, that would be fantastic.
I already thought about doing this but since the original is being worked on in another project, I think it would be best to do the SE version first and then do a combined SE/IB Tech version.
Here are the same SE trailers in english, ripped from my SE DVDs (1997 versions). After the Jedi trailer is a making of the Special Editions documentary. I didn’t combine the trailer with the documentary, this is how it is on my DVD.
Yeah, they should be scanned and preserved. Please make it happen.
Get well poita.
I would love a command line version.
It always did that for me too.
I think I have access to 64 bit version of Matlab - and a mac version.
A Mac version would be awesome, if doable. Right now I have to use VMWare to use it.
Fantastic work NeverarGreat. Thanks
PAL GOUT is 25fps so it can’t really be the basis of a NTSC sync which is what Despecialized is.
So the question really is is the actual GOUT out of sync by that one frame and does reinserting it sync it properly or did they trim the audio to sync with the missing frame?
With regards to that missing reel 5 frame, is the gout audio (from despecialized) better synced with or without that frame?
i would prefer a commandline version myself but am greatful for whatever you give us. Thanks for the awesome tool.

Gary Oldman rules!
Watching TFA last year and RO this year have made the PT even more irrelevant in my mind because they’ve hammered home how poorly executed the PT is.
Agreed.
RO is the only relevant prequel.
For me the beginning kinda frustrates me. Why did they park so far away. Wasn’t she running away then she’s up close watching, then she’s running away again.
Overall loved it though.
edit:
lots of cameos. R2 and 3PO cameo perfect. “We’re wanted men” guys unnecessary.
Saw if today and loved it. It’s the prequel we’ve been waiting for.
Not sure if mentioned but Vader’s eyes being red and not black. It’s a subtle detail that matters.
Also if I’d never seen Star Wars would I know Tarkin is CGI? It’s well done but knowing it’s CGI makes it look CGI to me. “Ignorance is bliss”
I’m seeing it again on Sunday anyway.
I opted to use the DVD version for comparison rather than despecialized because despecialized is recreated gout rather than true gout of the DVD. I didn’t think of the pull down issue. My bad.
Watched mine again and you’re right it’s not there. Oops
Must have been a glitch in the Matrix
I’m not at home to verify. My DVD gout may have the frame numbers off but look at frame 15496 on reel 3 as a reference to the frame I mean. On my gout it’s duplicated. I viewed the gout in QuickTime 7 on my Mac as that version shows a frame count.
I am after some people to view the complete scan, to give feedback as to missing frames and frames that are so damaged as to need replacing. Anyone who wants to help with that, please bounce me a PM.
For feedback in case I missed something, here is what I discovered are missing frames of the reel scans
comparing against the bonus DVD gout version
frame counts are onscreen counts of sample scan
reel 1
25 frames of blank missing at the beginning
at frame 21699 there are 3 frames missing
around frame 29645 there is 1 frame missing (not sure exactly which frame)
4 frames missing at end of reel 1
reel 2
7 frames missing at start of reel 2
at frame 9361 there are 6 frames missing
a few missing at the end of the reel
reel 3
7 frames missing at start of reel 3
at frame 21664 there are 33 frames missing
at frame 22138 there are 10 frames missing
3 frames missing at the end of reel 3
reel 4
7 frames missing at start of reel 4
at frame 21497 there are 177 frames missing which includes the line “well that’s a long time ago. I’m sure he’s forgotten about that”
at frame 29398 there are 13 frames missing
6 frames missing at the end of reel 4
reel 5
7 frames missing at start of reel 5
at frame 1088 there are 6 frames missing
2 frames missing at the end of reel 5
reel 5 has lots of red splotches throughout (mold damage)
reel 6
6 frames missing at the start of reel 6
no other frames missing up to credits
I didn’t compare credits
Did I miss anything?
The “marker” fix that always stood out for me was the black spot beside the emperor’s eyes in some scenes in ROTJ
Who’s ready to chip in? Can we get a show of hands?
I donated a few days ago.
I got a preview of Reel1 of the English print done, here is a link https://infinit.io/_/3pQJnw6 again, not graded to the print, just a test to see what kind of shape it is in.
Looks awesome.
Any chance we can get a higher resolution version of this?
Though I don’t post very often I am almost daily reading what’s up in here.
I appreciate all the efforts you all do to give us back the real Star Wars experience we all love and miss.
Thanks
