I don't care one bit about the fate of prequel characters

Anyway, whatever - I wasn't pulling a 'cheap joke'. AWK's post about crying really did make me lagh out loud. I jsut can't see how anyone bought Anakin's fall or his friendship with Obi-wan. Evidently some did, and I'm happy for them and wish I was one of them, but I'm not. The prequels done nothing for me.

Well, I didn't cry when I watched it in the theater, although the Order 66-scene was quite gut-wrenching. However, when I watched it for the first time after getting the DVD, I did shed a single tear. Perhaps it was a combination of the scene and my frustrations over the fact that my DVD player sucked and that I had to watch it on my laptop. Who knows? But fact is, GL is now responsible for two of my movie-crying moments (the other one is Vader's death in ROTJ). The man does have a certain amount of talent if he can attach me enough to his characters to make me cry when they die.

As for Leia's birth, don't forget that just after she has given birth to Leia, the scene cuts away to Anakin turning into Vader. That's at least a 20 second chunk where we don't know what happens between Leia and Padme. I'm sure she talked to her, but I'm clueless as to why Lucas decided not to show it. Actually, I'm not. It's probably because Luke is the most important of them and because it would probably be repetive to have her talk to both babies. So, she talked to her, but we don't see it. Works good enough for me.

What themes from SOTE are you gonna be using for TPM? I'm currently listening to "The Destruction of Xizor's Palace" and some of the latter more dramatic themes could be fit into the ANH-duel between Obi-Wan and Vader to make it more dramatic. As of now, it doesn't seem like a duel between the mentor and the apprentice who probably still feels he was betrayed. The calmness of JEJ's voice is one thing, but it would add a lot to the scene to stuff in some music. Also, if you need more Star Wars-ish music, the game Outcast has a beautiful score written by Lennie Moore and performed by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. If you need some adventurous and more exotic cues, I think you'd be able to find a use for this. You can listen to it here

I'm certainly enjoying it! Several scenes made me laugh out loud. Especially Princess Leia when she stumbles drunkenly towards the viewscreen and looks up a Chewie's wife (who's really a man behind the suit) with a stoned look. I'm also amazed about the quality. Beats the crap out of all the screenshots I have seen so far. How were you able to pull such a transfer from an old worn 1978-video?

The Order 66-scene has much more impact on me (especially the Youngling-scene) than the rebel pilots dying in ANH. One death that I couldn't be torn up about was Mace Windu's. For some reason, I just find his screams after Anakin cuts off his hand funny. That kinda hurts the drama. But I admit that one of the main factors that makes the Order 66-scene so touching for me is John Williams' music. The death scenes themselves would probably not be that difficult to cope with if the "Anakin's Beatrayal"-theme hadn't been there.

The Fett scene would be difficult, but not impossible. It would probably be do-able in a decent 3D program if it's made a bit more subtle to disguise the fact that it's CG. Killing off Fett would not work since it pretty much ruins everything EU. I know that not all EU is considered canon, but by now there are some facts that are agreed on. Fett survives, Han and Leia have Jacen, Jaina and Anakin, Luke sets up a Jedi temple on Yavin etc. But doing something simple and subtle, like a hand coming out of the Sarlacc, would work.

I just got mine. Thankyou very much to both of you, Rikter and Mr. Elf

I've now watched the whole thing. It has to rank among one of the funniest things I have ever seen! The DVD-Rom features are awesome as well. That remix of Yub-Nub kicks ass! Somebody has to make a music video of that...

Any GOOD memories of the PT?
Time
Oh, you bet!

TPM - I must've been 11 back then. Of course, I really liked it. And Jar Jar was not just funny. He was "cool". I shudder today, but it was quite an experience back then. I remember that my door and walls were plastered with newspaper cut-outs about it. It was the new Star Wars movie, man! For a kid who'd been a hardcore OT fan since seeing most of ROTJ on TV (taped - it ran out just before Vader attacked Palpatine!), this was big news!

AOTC - Well, I thought it was decent. Mostly because of Jango Fett. The biggest memory I have is that the film broke just before Obi-Wan is caught on Geonosis. Total darkness and people laughing and screaming "Hello?". But it was nowhere near as big at TPM! By now, I had however realised the facts that TPM's humour was miserable and that Jar Jar was not cool, but a complete and utter idiot.

ROTS - Officially, I was sick, but my parents gave me an extra day home so I could round off the saga. This time, the movie surpassed my expectations. I thought it was absolutely fantastic apart from the minor problems. The Order 66-scene nearly made me cry (it's still surprisingly gut-wrenching for me to watch) and Vader's first breath was the moment I had been waiting for since the announcement of Episode I. It gave me the chills. At that time, the "NOOOOOOO!!!" was the least of my problems. Like the aforementioned masked man once said "The circle is now complete".

So overall, TPM probably means the most to me. But it pales in comparison to watching the SE on the big screen, or the Christmas back in '97 where I got the SE VHS box from my parents. The SE is one of the biggest part of my childhood. Yes, I'm a freak. But it was good times...

'Merge' Article- Lucas in his own words
Time
Off-topic - CO, can we play spot-what's-wrong with your signature?

I always think today is January 30, 1997. On that day Han shot first, nobody ever heard of Hayden Christenson, and Star Wars, was still Star Wars, not A New Hope, and there was one trilogy that consisted of three episodes

1997? On that day, Greedo went cross-eyed, Jabba became a plastic turd and Star Wars was sure as heck not still Star Wars! Joking, of course, but really...

You guys are whiners... first you want the O-OT. Okay, fine, no problemo. That's the cause the website is fighting for. But now you're complaining about the ever so-great and important childhood memory that is the O-OT too? Don't like Lucas? Don't want his movies. They are his and he can do anything he wants to do, which probably includes ignoring all this BS about a goddamn 20+ year old movie. Christ, some people can't be satisfied...

Just what is the problem? If you saw a 19-year old Carrie Fisher (who much later turned out to be your sister) wandering around in a loose white dress wearing no undergarments, I think you would grab the chance too! So lay off Luke and Leia - if there are any true perverts in this story, it is Yoda and Obi-Wan ("Sure we shouldn't tell them?", "Let's watch them make out first. Funnier it will be! Mhehehehehe!")

Glad somebody shares my view. It's too early to launch another home video format. DVD only became very popular a few years ago. Only the real hardcore fans will buy new equipment and new versions of the same movies. It killed of Betamax and Laserdisc and it'll probably kill off these as well.
