Info Wanted: HD Documentary Preservations?
Time

Took me a few years to notice but two of the AotC HD broadcasts are in different definition.  Both 1920x1080 but one's pan/scan.  (pics are full, open in new window for details)  Can anyone tell if the 2004 was upsized or were the 2007 downsized?

2004 : Star Wars Attack of the Clones.0002.ts

2007 : Star.Wars.II.Attack.Of.The.Clones.1080p.h264.dd51.de.en.dc.ts (German)

Anyone seen any of the other films in HD pan/scan?

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

AotC - DVD vs Blu-Ray Preview:

The DVD capture is one frame off, but Yoda's head doesn't turn as much as it does in this Blu-Ray Preview.  Yoda's looking at Dooku now, doesn't quite get there in the DVD version.  So might be a new head.  *EDIT* or an extended shot, Dooku's cape isn't matching...  Looking at it a little more, the extended idea makes sense, there's no noticable music or dialog just sound effects and if you watch the cloak, the wrinkles sweep in and out.  Guessing an additional 4-6 frames, maybe more.

*EDIT*

this change and others? would explain why the FSK reclassified AotC according to reports: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-coming-to-Blu-Ray-UPDATE-May-4th-2011/post/514625/#TopicPost514625

Quote: I also posted about it over at HTF.

Request: When people do this ^ could everyone please consider posting the link to the post at the other forum.  So the rest of us who don't go to these forums can see the conversations and if they want, get involved.

This is a completely new avenue, a famous film is being released with an error, not once but twice.  On one hand it will be phun to see how the general public responds (most likely "who cares it's one frame") but it'll be interesting to see if future theatrical releases continue with this.  Might have been done on purpose, a digital glitch watermark. ...at least that's how'd i'd spin it at this point.

Behind the Magic vs Blu-ray 'Treadwell' scene comparison:

Alternative take or change after 'Lost Cut'?

Dirt Comparison:

The 'Lost Cut' transfer would expected to be a little grittier which it is.  Nice to see that even after the first cut they continued to work on this sequence by cutting this alternative Luke shot.  Weird that the blu-ray has a corner edge on one side but not the other.  But it explains location shift of the moisture device.  Agin weird that the far shot has the corner on the right, and the Luke close up shot on the left.  Always tweaking...

There's a difference between believing and having proof that you can use to explain to someone else why your belief turned out to be correct.

Official credit goes out to canofhumdingers for spotting this error, and should be named in his honor:

First post of error: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Despecialized-Edition-HD-AVCHD-DVD9-and-NTSC-DVD5-AVAILABLE-see-1st-post/post/509807/#TopicPost509807

Maybe 'CanofallErrors', this forum should be able to figure out a nice catchy name for this 'feature'.  'The Official Humdinger'?

Once the disc is release will be interesting to compare this frame to the HD version which seemed closer to the original source, as the error is clearer and show less sign of re-compression.  pic here:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Complete-Comparison-of-Special-Edition-Visual-Changes/post/510352/#TopicPost510352

But on the Cut Scene material, it's a great thing to see, and the quality they have been provided in will just spark the community to develop clean up skillz for the eventual fan scan.  But the Treadwell scene looks worse then what I remember the black/white version from Behind the Magic cdrom, will do a cross comparison.  That Luke going off into the sandstorm shot is so sweet.  Wonder if Kurtz's has been remembering that shot all these years and he's wished that the movies ended with this shot.

*EDIT*

Top is Behind the Magic 'Lost Cut' version and below the recent blu-ray cutscene preview.  So even after the Lost Cut this sequence was still worked on as they've revised the second shot.  On the dirt aspect, the one vertical bar (far left) is in both.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

someone wrote: Furthermore on Disc 7 there is something called "Boba Fett: First Look" (8:39 Minutes)
That's the Boba Fett-Cartoon from the Holiday-Special I think...

The Holiday Special cartoon is 9 minutes, so my guess is they've expanded this SW.com video, "Meet Boba Fett", into this 'Boba Fett: First Look' blu-ray extra: http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000743.html  Maybe they've included some of the parade where the new paint job Boba made his first appearance.

On a different note - the FSK that rates movies here in germany has tested some more material from the upcoming Blu-Ray Set:
Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope (Blu Ray Version) (New Edition) 125 Minutes (24 fps)
Star Wars Episode II - Attack Of The Clones (Blu Ray Version) 142 Minutes (24 fps)

Movies that are released again on a new medium are only reviewed by the FSK if they are indeed altered versions or different cuts.

Wait, we've all thought TPM because of the digital Yoda would put that on this list.  The times match other released versions, curious.

Story Boards Thread
Time

The site below is going to be showcasing story boards from people's private collections, but figured other story boards are surfacing all over, so why not have a thread on the subject.

http://starwarsstoryboards.wordpress.com/

This site hosts a collection of original artwork that was created for the production of the Star Wars movies.

A lot of this art was created based on early script drafts and it gives a great insight on how certain shots and scenes were designed, created, and how the movies evolved during the production process. Not only do these production materials offer a great and unique insight in the movies and their making, with many previously unpublished, they are amazing relics with few in private collections.

All artwork in this site comes from private collections.  If you have anything that you would like to share on this site please contact us.

Enjoy!

Great site, takes the story board, explains it's location in the film, relevant scrip, expands with shots from the film and adds extra relevant material on top.

But feel free to post any storyboards, any film, or link to posts or blogs on the subject.

Puggo Strikes Back! (Released)
Time

Puggo wrote: realized that what might really help it, is to have someone better than me color-correct it.

What you've done for the super8 and other 16mm's has been more then fine.  Would keep it in that tradition.   I hate saying this but 'less is more' in this case.  Part of the joy of your projects, which i've like immensely, is that they reflect the values associated with this media's inherent qualities.  Film degrades in a certain way, video in other directions.  Too much pixel pushing to make it look like how we think it used to should have....

But maybe there is some issue between the reels which is why you're asking for additional support.
