Save Star Wars Dot Com
Time

Personally, I think the 'Widespread Condemnation' is premature.  Only three days in.  Can these, critical of the changes, type of comments compete with people glowing about the glories of HD quality.  'They've never looked better.'  Is going to be in every review.  (we'll see if they acknowledge the deliberate creative decisions)

A lot is going to happen in the next two weeks, a MPAA quote about the dimming of movie magic by pirates and a GL quote about how the critics never really got SW, are two I think will show up.  Plus the appreciation of the Deleted Scenes/special features will erode some of the criticism of constant changes to the films themselves.

Right now all the news links points to the top of the page, so people have to scroll to get to the earlier dates.  You can have the links point to certain spots in that page.

http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_links.asp

(they use <a name="name"> but I think this is being phased out of HTML5, so the below should work)

You set the spots by setting up a 'span' with an 'id' name.  I've used the date and a key word, so you can remember what it was.

<span id="20110605Spielberg">June 5, 2011: Steven Spielberg Vows Never to Digitally Alter Old Films, Says Lucas Can't "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie"</span>

or

<span id="20110605Spielberg">June 5, 2011</span>: Steven Spielberg Vows Never to Digitally Alter Old Films, Says Lucas Can't "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie"

then your link from the main page would look like this:

<a href="http://savestarwars.com/news.html#20110605Spielberg">

Try one, if it works great, otherwise i'll figure out what's missing.

Wait are you trying to tell me that a national broadcast of a documentary on the making of a commercial        was a bad idea?!

This is a little documentary on Star Wars Episode one and Pepsi which aired on tv in 1999. The Marphalump is a alien character who is crazy about Star Wars.

*Nevermind* it's actually at 23.976.  One of the leaks is at 24.39.  Not sure why that is...

*old post* Anyone know why the video would be at 24.39 fps?

Does he talk about this applying to any specific shots?  When do you think this recording took place?

So you are aware, but there is/was a disagreement between the creator of that project and numerous members of this forum.  MVerta the creator of the SWLegacy did the project for himself.  He let everyone know upfront that he was never going to allow it to go public.  The legacy of Legacy might haunt your Legacy.

Comments on the new news.html

they are indeed real, and various insiders and even some official Lucasfilm employees have confirmed them.

Official Lucasfilm employees sounds a little weak.  Here's the confirmation which went to the NYTimes (and I don't think anyone else)

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/08/31/lucasfilm-confirms-change-to-blu-ray-release-of-return-of-the-jedi/

On Wednesday, a press representative for Lucasfilm confirmed that this change will be included in the Blu-ray release, writing in an e-mail: “Yes — Darth says NO.”

So switch to maybe "they are indeed real, as confirmed by Lucasfilm to the NYTimes." (as a link)

I've been on a ESB Luke Trampoline kick of late, could that get tacked onto the end of:

So is Obi Wan's shorting out saber, so is ESB's Luke trampoline head.

The soundtrack also seems very similar. Although Matthew Wood says he re-mixed Star Wars from scratch using the raw sound effects, this is suspect.

None of the articles (i've read) where Woods talks do they specify WHEN this from scratch re-mixing work took place.  I think it was done for the 2004.  So they're not lying, it took place, just not explicitly for this set.

the "humdinger" glitch

The SW community barely knows of this, so could point people here: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Humdinger-Analysis-Thread-Glitch-Cryptography-or-Steganography/topic/13030/

The rocks disappear in later shots too.

A pic of this would be nice.  Especially for the continuity people.

The Sounds of Star Wars

Being nice could point to the SW.com page: (it's a very nice book)

http://www.starwars.com/vault/books/sounds_of_sw_c5/index.html

or Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Sounds-Star-Wars-J-Rinzler/dp/0811875466

Remember how much flak that got, and it became a whole internet meme with entire websites and mockumentaries about how embarassingly dumb it was?

One of my fav was "The United States of Noooo!!!" which years later would turn out to be by the RedLetterMedia guy.  http://redlettermedia.com/shorts/the-united-states-of-noooo/

Remember, eventually all those OT deleted scenes on here--the real reason you want the set--will be on Youtube.

Cut youtube.  Jump right to renting or buying used.

Maybe add Conclusion:  before

Conclusion:

So, just to remind, this is what you will be getting this September.

Visual clue of the wrap up.

Maybe i've been reading about these changes a lot, but at some point mentioning so many of them seems like promotion.

The same colouring problems of 2004

add a link to the video on the sites youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWRs0ZD8ay4

The pics are not coded to open into a new window.  "<a target="new" href="LINK"><img></a>"

I'm going to putz around with the copyright link part.  post that up later.

Well quotes were out there, you knew of the speech, but the full details were surprising on some level. (I still say it was a smoke screen to get rights to squelch derivative works.)  What I don't understand is why these government documents are not already online... stupid copyright system is keeping knowledge locked up.  The internet was suppose to bring the library into the home, yet we've still got to go to the library... /rant  The site is having an impact, so kudos.  (i'd use the Obi AotC 'Good Job' line but it's kinda tainted, maybe things are that dire...)

Do you have stats on the site, zombie?  Curious how big of a spike, in the last few days, and are people reading other articles?

Any chance of the SE article premiering close to BR day, doubleofive?  People should get a real kick out of the Cinefex quote.

Serling1979 wrote: here are some screenshots. I saved them as jpegs to reduce the file size. As I said it is heavy on the red but while tinkering with it I got some good resuts.

Thanks for posting these.  It's nice to periodically be reminded of the effects of time on these films.  Being all red, they look other worldly.

I am digitizing old tv recordings of all three movies (recordings must be from around 1993). So they are all pre-SE, even without A New Hope in the crawl. This might provide german audio tracks for all three films.

There is a thread for preserving the German versions:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Preserving-German-Original-Trilogy/topic/5765/

The german crawl, subtitles and credits are other things the community is looking to preserve.  Were these TV recordings part of a special, do they have intros?  In the US this was done several times.  In the 90s for instance Carrie Fisher and Billy Dee Williams hosted the broadcast of the trilogy.  I've been able to digitize 5 of these 6.  Still looking for ESB w/ Fisher.

Thanks for showing what you're up to, would like to see them if that's your goal.  How'd you find the this Super8?

That article is traveling fast, at least your link has the update with SSW.c link.  The next piece for people to read, shows that LFL did actually permanently alter the film. (negatives)

http://originaltrilogy.com/Lucasfilm_PR_response.cfm

The negatives of the movies were permanently altered for the creation of the Special Editions, and existing prints of the first versions are in poor condition.

This quote is mentioned in the SSW.c article:

http://savestarwars.com/gout.html

So that's an idea for the place to have these articles link to next.   Not sure though, ahh they cherry pic quotes, and that's the one which shows what LFL did.  Reinforcing the other quote.  Ah the articles are there, people will read at their own pace.
