This Heart of Dorkness seems to be a way to strum up interest and a way to create additional material for a DVD release.  and explain why the project languished and had these odd starts and stops.  It's not impossible but would be odd to get a theatrical release at this point.  John Daley doesn't look the same anymore.  But that's no reason not to try.

Would it have been russs15's Galactic Trade Federation: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/russdawson/gtf/

The Star Wars Collectors Archive also has a list of home variations: http://theswca.com/index.php?action=disp_category&category_id=56

OT.com has a wiki which lists quite a bit: http://originaltrilogy.com/fan-edits/

What did the site look like?

Note: on searching through OT.com it's better to use a search engine, use "site:originaltrilogy.com _your query term_"

Has 'The Chase' episode of ST:TNG been mentioned:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chase_%28Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation%29

The common alien ancestry plot idea.

When the alien race first explored the Alpha Quadrant there had been no humanoid-based life other than themselves, and so they seeded various planets with their DNA to create a legacy of their existence after they had gone.

Watching another SE era news report (TWC327) and this one has the following:

CNN Newsource 1/30/97 3AM - 23 Entertainment: Star Wars Returns - Dennis Michael PKG 2:21

Dennis Michael: Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox teamed up to give the film something of a tune up, ended up giving it a complete overhaul.

George Lucas: When I went in, I was just going to change four or five shots.  And as it's turned out now, I think there are now over 700 pieces of new negative in the film out of about twelve hundred, it's almost, it's more then half the film.  But a lot of them are simply just redoing wipes and fades and flopped shots, things people won't notice, to make them cleaner.

*OMIT*

GL continues: There are over 110 ILM shots that are new.

There's an interesting look/giggle in the negative sentence.  Not sure how to take his overall number.

Yeah it looks like external .SUP files are on the to do list for the current version of VLC.

If someone wants to proof read a .srt conversion, then VLC wouldn't have a problem.

Episode title in original theatrical release.
Time

Sbodge wrote: So we can say that the episode numbers starting at 4 was already part of a design

I wouldn't make that assumption.

Before Betamax and VHS there were 8mm and 16mm prints of Star Wars which were available for purchase, sometime in 1978 or 1979.  They did not have the episode title.  Here's an example of the 16mm:

One of the first tapes was the 1982 Library Rental Betamax:

http://theswca.com/index.php?action=disp_item&item_id=22522

This version (as it was released after the re-release) has the Episode IV title.

Why foreign versions (which were released... later) do not have the Episode IV title, the current guess is that... well there is no definite logic.  Each language track may have been linked to a certain print and they may have gone back to those prints to do the next home video version. (which in 1984 would have been the first)  Only later when there was the interest would they upgrade to match the latest version with title and episode number.

English 2006 GOUT : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoMQKumx7Zo

1984 CBS/FOX German: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3THFc9ocbI (no episode)

1984 CBS/Fox Spanish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETli-fE7Ha4 (no episode)

But yet when Star Wars premiered in 1984 on US television it had the Episode IV.

nah there's other things, this is just one which someone took the effort to refute.

Internal bleeding is kinda important if the only remaining character for your sequel is given life thru faulty lines of logic.  But she's obviously diety of your choice 3.0 so why stick to anything, mesaih complexes fix all....  I hope she meets Neo and they defeat the Tardis by giving it an alien ooze cold.  If the Matrix Architect teams up with the Alien Engineer and they hire the construction firm from X-Super X-Great X-Home X-Make X-Over X-Edition (yes Krychek is acting site superintendant) can we call this genre over.  (until it's rebooted for SW4.10 of course)

What duration do you think Prometheus covers.  two three days?

Thanks for tracking this down, Bobocop.  Answering SilverWook's questions:

The Star Wars 1997 Special Edition 5 Star DVD9s were posted to the spleen.

and yes, VLC can handle the official DVD as the video and this subtitle stream Bobocop has created.  Use 'Advanced Open File'.

*EDIT*

amusing that they sub R2 is all the films: 'bloop whistle blip', 'bleep blip blip', 'beep beep'.

Digitizing a VHS (TWC323) and came across a Dateline News report (1997.01.31) on the SE which as George Lucas saying:

Jane Pauley: 'George realized his old classic creation, had lost some of it's glow'

George Lucas: 'and so we replaced 375 shots, just in Star Wars.'

Don't remember hearing a number before.  And not sure what 'replaced' equals.

excuse me the popcorn diarrheas arrived.

Dumbest bunch of scientists ever to appear on screen.

Was it a big deal that they were dealing with alien life?  was alien life commonplace in year 2089?

Why was it a surprise that there was a road on the surface of the planet.  Shouldn't they have known that before they left, do they not have satellites in 2089?

You've been in suspended animation for 2 years, spending a few hours analysing the data you've just got from landing on the surface not enough for them?

How did the geologist and other guy get lost they were in communications with the ship and could get a visual of the map which was being generated by the sensors.

No one in the movie asked Why at any point.  Scientists ask why a lot, but not these fucktards.

It was comical watching when the pains of surgery affect that lady.

Did not know there were more movies on the way.  but that last shot of the ship taking off is soooo Matrix 3.

The opening was great.

Why do all alien species have to be dicks.  And dicks for zero reasons.

Does anyone wear a helmet because it protects you from falling objects.

Benedict Wong was completely wasted.  Him and Stringer Bell could have been so much more.

Were there other people on the ship?  The lady (Theron) has her own apartment, then all of a sudden Weyland shows up with his own apartment and crew, how do you miss those spaces/people on the ship?

Things don't build in this movie, just more stuff thrown on the pile.

Was expecting Theron to turn into Mom from Alien.  Guess that ain't happening.

oh and my favorite.  The device in Theron's room was designed for men at one point then it's got a pair of forceps at the end...  and when can some of these directors just shoot a porno so in their non-porno films we can spend the screen time on plot and cohesive story telling instead of crotch.

Wonder if Chris Carter is slightly miffed.

*EDIT*

oh yeah i'm designing a space suit which can't repel heat.

Prometheus...

Safety Not Guaranteed : http://safetynotguaranteedmovie.com/

Little sci-fi, little comedy, little romance, little slice of life.  probably a good date movie.  Movie was created around the story of an ad placed in a newspaper for someone to go back in time, which became an internet thing shortly after.  Which could be why it took so long for this movie to get released.  or some of the actors stars are rising and the distribution capitalized.  Not sure why it got an R rating, seems like it could be a regular on several cable channels.  Story follows the quest to find the person who placed the ad and after that what they learn affects their current lives or lack there of.
