In the in the General SW Forum, there's a mention of a BBC's Channel 4 program called 'Bring Back Star Wars', also of note is for US people with "Reelz Channel" there's a program called "The Directors" on Lucas, for more Upcoming SWTV Thread.

Figured might as well make a thread to discuss this new book on the origins of Star Wars.

Flipped through and there's plenty of material to make this a worthy purchase. The hardcover does have extra material; if you need to save some cash what you loose out on are pages of storyboards and a couple pages of miscellaneous facts from Lucas on SW minutia and a guide to when certain ideas sprang up and from which draft this occured.

After having recently read The Secret History of Star Wars, i was intriged by what the 'real' "Journal of the Whills" document was going to be. Unfortuantely the presentation of the Journal is not going to help the cause, what is provided looks like a photograph of a photocopy of the handwritten line. Annoyingly many pictures of actual pages of the hand written scripts are cropped to show the pertinent quote, would rather see the whole page... but you take what you can get.

Really digging the fact that one script started out with the phrase "Deep Space", would make for a funny subtitle.

Much of the book seems to stem from an exhaustive series of interviews done by Charles Lippencott for an unpublished work, the poorly worded "Lost Interviews" through out production of the film (75-78), and hopefully Rinzler discusses how certain decisions affected the evolutionary process of the work. Maybe Hyperspace will makes these interviews available in the next few years.

The book looks great, should be a fun read.

Georgia man pleads guilty in peer-to-peer crackdown

April 16, 2007 (IDG News Service) -- A man from Columbus, Ga., has pleaded guilty to two felonies related to distribution of copyrighted materials over a peer-to-peer network, the Department of Justice announced Monday.

Kuonen was charged with conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement and criminal copyright infringement. He faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, the DOJ said. He faces sentencing July 16 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas.


According to wikipedia two individuals have received "five months of prison, five months of home arrest, and a $3,000 fine"

(Feel free to ignore these ramblings, i was replying to a post on the first page when the discussion has moved on to page 4...)

There was an internet in the time around RotJ and they had a newsgroup which was used to discuss the movie. Google Groups used to have an archive of the discussion, but i'm having difficulty finding the info... Can't remember if it was R.A.S.S.M. or another group name...

Edit:
Google Groups Advanced Search you can select the years to search through, the archive starts in 1981, so put in whatever query you want and there are a bunch of sw discussions back then

George Lucas Crashes In Celebrity Race

Star Wars creator George Lucas had a smashing time at the Toyota Pro-Celebrity Race in Long Beach, California on Saturday (14Apr07) when he collided with Csi: Miami star Emily Procter.

Procter's car slammed into the front of Lucas' during the pre-Long Beach Grand Prix festivities, pinning the movie mogul against a wall.

Lucas was subdued after the race, telling reporters, "I should have just let her go by me."


So will this wreck have a similar effect to Lucas' last one?

"Real TV" seems to be a clip like show which aired between 1996 to 2002. Most likely this show aired around TPM or AotC, i doubt anything new will be in it, the full audition dvd which Rikter made should be all the footage, maybe this will be slightly better, but nowhere near complete. The show also airs on Spike!, so maybe with the 30th anniversary in mind, this prog will reair there...

Thanxs WookieGroomer, it really is a joy to be able to ADD-Watch the trilogies.

Lot of neet moments, for intance early on, you have TPM Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon bickering as they infiltrate the Trade Federation, mean while AotC Obi and Ani talk in the elevator. while C-3PO shows up in all three OT films. Then letting you mind float between dialogs is fun:
"Bring me the passengers i Want them alive. Han, I need you" C-3po had another moment, in ANH he's walking on Tatooine to the right, then ESB 3po is walking to the left on Hoth, then a few moments later, RotJ 3po is walking through Jabba's Dungeon.
