Who Felt Return Of The Jedi Was A Letdown At The Time?

Its in 1983's Skywalking and I think Kershner reported this as well. Its appeared in other sources too.

Did a quick read and i'm not finding mention in the ESB parts of this scenerio.

the word 'psychiatrist' does not appear in the Skywalking on google.books.

here's the 4 mentions of 'psychology'

Maybe people are thinking about this: 'psychological' reference

Quote: "While the amputation of Luke's hand in Empire has a psychological justification (a clear expression of boys' castration fears), justifing the random violence in Raiders is more difficult.  Lucas uses terms like 'therapeutic' and 'nondestructive'

page 211 discusses the Revelation:

Quote:"Lucas's biggest problem was the revelation that Darth Vader is Luke's father.  After Star Wars, audiences knew Luke was the hero and couldn't be killed.  "The way you can get an audience going is to make them belive that you as a filmmaker are going to do some really rotten thing," Lucas told his collaborators.

Following the rotten creator idea.  The creation of ESB was close to the creation of Raiders, and at that time Lucas pushed for the implication that in Raiders, Indy had had relations with an underaged Marion.

G — I was thinking that this old guy could have been his mentor. He could have known this little girl when she was just a kid. Had an affair with her when she was eleven.

L — And he was forty-two.

G — He hasn't seen her in twelve years. Now she's twenty-two. It's a real strange relationship.

S — She had better be older than twenty-two.

G — He's thirty-five, and he knew her ten years ago when he was twenty-five and she was only twelve. It would be amusing to make her slightly young at the time.

S — And promiscuous. She came onto him.

G — Fifteen is right on the edge. I know it's an outrageous idea, but it is interesting. Once she's sixteen or seventeen it's not interesting anymore. But if she was fifteen and he was twenty-five and they actually had an affair the last time they met. And she was madly in love with him and he...

S — She has pictures of him.

Lucas had a cavallier attitude to plot devices in the creation of entertainment, this psychiatrist story seems out of character with early 80s Lucas.

Yes that's the artwork of the Trilogy set, those are covers of the Rowman or Editdroid sets.

But i'm interested in the side with the quote.  Which is in silver and done script style, as if written by GL.  People seem to have scanned the front, but not the sides.  This VHS set had fold out wings, which i've also never seen scanned.

Here's a low res version:

Would love a 600dpi so i can do an adequate vectorization of it.  Might have to settle working with this version.

Looking for a scan of the quote on the VHS Trilogy set (~1990).

Here's the quote:

Fifteen years ago I set out to make a film for a generation growing up without fairy tales.

Star Wars was my own elaborate fantasy, but its popularity has gone beyond anything even I had imagined.

In years to come I hope that you, your children, and your children's children will enjoy experiencing this saga as much as I have.

George Lucas

thnx in advance

STAR WARS - THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE - Is Forever ...One Last Time (Television Trilogy Preservation Set + SW Commercial Breaks) -The Ordeal Is Real- & available (Released)
Time

Thanks for the feedback DVwerks. I've just added some foley to the intros, most importantly recorded my VCR eating a tape before the main menu kicks in. Since the first random play test worked, thinking maybe there should be three random play menus each signifying a different degradation of the menus going through VCR generation loss. (will probably weight the random options so the massive degredation doesn't show up as frequently) Plus with the last generation being quite severe maybe that might make for some future feedback/"what the crap is this" responses.

I keep putting off the main video final conversion. It's an LP recording (4 hrs) so it's decent, but my capture device recorded at 640x480 (square pixels). Since DVDs are 720 (rectangular pixels), do I stretch to fit (as i've done before) or place the 640 onto 720 matte with black side bars to preserve the original format. (which i think is 712 or 714 pixels?) (don't quite understand the square to rectangular pixel conversion process) Problem is i'm not reviewing on a real TV (don't own one) basing this all off a computer monitor... Will ask this in the tech help forum.

**EDIT**

Last call for material from 77-87 to add to the commercial breaks.  About to lock the time line, add chapter markers and begin the DVD making process.

The above mentioned tutorial works when played back in the default mac dvd player, but it doesn't work in VLC.  Which makes me kind of nervous.  I don't have a DVD player to test on.

Here's a preview of the 30 sec DVD intro, the 40 sec Main Menu and 15 sec Options Menu for the ESB disc.  (before they get VCR'd)

EDIT : LINK REMOVED

Don't VCR it LOL, that looks bad.

Somebody doesn't understand the joys of EP/SLP. Am anticipating this reaction and if I can learn random selected menus both versions will show up.

But in motion the VCR'ng is a nostaglia beast.

EDIT: Good tutorial for random play option through DVDSP

I highly doubt that this was for the ROTJ deleted scene as there have been pictures of the outside of the cave filming with 3P0 & R2 from way back.

I was just kidding.

I know. I was commenting on the thread title

Not sure how you get from the cut scene to this title, if I had wanted this topic to reference the cut scene I would have put it in the cut scene thread.

Mr. Daniels took part in some future SW thing which will become clear in the future as he says, and it's not just this forum which doesn't have a clue.

Probably something minor, but there's just so many more years they can squeeze him into that costume. So it could end up being relevant. Maybe they were filming that RotS cut scene where 3po force chokes r2 who'se force choking jar-jar who's force choking R5-J2 who's force choking Amanaman who's force choking R3-D5 who's force choking Keed'kak Kitik who's.... Well see Order 67 gave all droids jedi powers and yeah this is going no where.

The audience/public isn't required to respond.  It's a societal thing, were taught to consume not get involved.  During one of the Ben Burtt CV panels he stated that the sound effects he added which were not commented on were the ones which worked the best. (the light saber being the prime example) That's one way of looking at things. All the projects around here would love to get intelligent feedback. You can always start a social networking page and get a bunch of 'I Like's.

Getting people to respond is a complex thing.  I thought my dvd with a self addressed and stamp included envelope (even used SW stamps) with a 20 question y/n thing would be easy for the public.  Gave up after 100+ with no replies.  (the current investigation is can I get 4-10 replies after giving out 400 dvds to all levels of fandom at CV...  My friend says not a chance.)

The fan SW projects just have a limited audience. If you've gotten 45 downloads that's what .5% of the OT.com members maybe 5% of the active ones. The response pecentage on most projects is discouraging; almost abysmal. It's that way for all creative outlets.

If I were you and was looking for a passionate audience, seek out the JW fans, they could be the ones to appreciate this project, and would be able to give you serious criticism since they're musically inclined. The problem is you never know what individual will latch onto your creative work. The OT.com population is potentially tapped out with the multiple projects all looking for attention. It's still early though, maybe they'll surprise you.

The great thing about this project for me is it shows you the challenge of the blank canvas John Williams had and how he filled it.

Here's a possible explanation for those film rips.

From "The Sounds of Star Wars" book:

PG.53

008 Hatch Sizzle and Explosion

Quote: "At one point while Burtt was working in the basement of Park Way, he was handed the color work print.  At that time, Lucasfilm had only one work print of Star Wars, so the utmost care was used when handling it.  "I thought, 'This is really valuable; my future's at stake here," says Burtt.  "So I threaded the work print up on my Movieola very carefully.  I checked all the rollers and sprockets to make sure it was okay.  Then I pressed Go - and ripped the films to shreads!  Oh, boy.  So I spliced it back together and tried to pretend it didn't happen.  But all the screenings from then on always had this jumpy spot right when the stormtroopers come bursting through the door of the Blockade Runner."

Anthony Daniels Quote: (from SiriusXM CV Interview 2010.08)

"I was wearing it (the 3po costume) about nine months ago for a project which will become clear in time."

Was originally thinking Star Tours 2. But there were reports of that filming in May of 2009. So maybe something for the blu-ray or maybe a SW Celebration DVD extra. All speculation on my parts.

The samples are really great, the color removal strips out a layer of information so you can appreciate the soundtrack but still retain a level of familiarity with the film.  Reminds me of the videos of the recording session videos where John Williams is leading the orchestra with the movie being played with the scoring marks for tempo (white bars which go across the screen) and other marks (large white circles) for moments he's set up to hit.  You can see a little of that in: (at around the 2:50 minutes in)

Look forward to listening/watching this project.
