NSP/OT - NightStalkerPoet's Original Trilogy Project (V2) Now High Bitrate
Time

NSP/OT (NightStalkerPoet’s Original Trilogy)

Update: Inspired by the release of ESB and RotJ from the Project Blu scripts, I thought I would try my hand at upscaling the GOUT myself. Only having the NTSC discs, those are my sources. And I have to say, I’m incredibly happy with the results.

So, I’m releasing a Version 2 of this project - this time using the crawls present in the GOUT source.

I’ve also chosen to upgrade the audio from stereo to the 5.1 ac3 versions of HAL9000’s SE GOUT audio - including for Return of the Jedi, where I’d previously used my own equivalent 256kbps ac3 encode of the 93 laserdisc pcm.

Each film is a roughly 4GB MKV file that is AVCHD-compliant and fits nicely on a single layer DVD when converted with TSMuxer.

*Now Available in High Bitrate with Hal9000’s DTS along with the AC3.

PM for info on obtaining this. Will be available on Myspleen shortly.

Enjoy! Feedback always appreciated.

Also, big thanks to gforce, JawsTDS, and Project Blu for their previous work on GOUT upscales and stabilization. I used small pieces of each, with small tweaks to those pieces, though my upscale and resizing settings are unique. Also to CatBus, for Project Threepio alien subtitles, which are burnt in in this project.

Original: These releases are my personal favorite mix-and-match versions of the Star Wars Original Trilogy. With so many options available, I’ve often found myself jumping from release to release, looking for my own personal “holy grail” viewing experience. Oddly, I’ve found this arrangement to have the most rewatch value for me.

Star Wars
Opening Titles/Crawl/Flyover: Despecialized 2.7 ANH Crawl (Harmy and Towne32)
Main Video Source: JawsTDS Return of the GOUT
Audio Source: Hal9000’s Special Edition Sourced Theatrical Audio (256kbps AC3 Stereo)

*I chose the stereo AC3 for these because the other options from Hal, while sounding amazing, were too pristine sounding when accompanying the GOUT sourced video.

*I replaced the crawls with Despecialized for better reading clarity.

The Empire Strikes Back
Opening Titles/Crawl/Flyover: ESB Despecialized 2.0 (Harmy)
Main Video Source: JawsTDS Return of the GOUT
Audio Source: Hal9000’s Special Edition Sourced Theatrical Audio (256kbps AC3 Stereo) - Custom Version

Return of the Jedi
Opening Titles/Crawl/Flyover: RotJ Despecialized 2.5 (Harmy)
Main Video Source: JawsTDS Return of the GOUT + Small Color Correction
Audio Source: Schorman’s Audio Archive 93 Mix, NSP Encode (256kbps AC3 Stereo)

I said a while ago that the Blu_ray/ DVD versions won’t be available until mid next year at the earliest

Thanks, I obviously completely missed that!

Why waiting that long by the way ? I understand that making a full bluray with menu and features takes time, but if the fanedit already exists in high quality I fail to understand why a mkv of the ucompressed version of the edit is postoned to next summer.

The mkv is already out there. I’m not sure what you are referring to here

I think he’s requesting a second MKV be released that matches the bit rate you plan to use on the Bluray.

Otherwise, he’s requesting what we’re all secretly craving, a lossless 10-bit x265 encoded mkv that is an exact representation of what’s on your computer as a finished project, complete with the audio in LPCM. Then everyone can customize/reencode the file on their computer on their own time to fit their target device or media.

I think he is a she, and if you think I’m gonna complete that ROTS quote,

Actually, it’s an AOTC quote.

Exactly.

I’m pretty sure this is the moment for that signal Obi-Wan does stroking his mustache.

I’d like to suggest completely removing the Leia and Wicket scene. Add a bit of tension wondering where she is, and the Ewoks seem more of a threat if you haven’t seen one nibbling snacks from a stranger and frightened of helmets.

If it makes you feel better the fanedit I’m working on of the film does this. The thread is around here somewhere I don’t post in it much because I’m very on again off again when it comes to working on it, one of these days I’m just going to randomly surprise everybody with it being done.

But without that scene, how does Leia appear in Ewok the village?
And even if she gets there somehow, we don’t know why she wasn’t served for lunch, while Han is certainly getting prepared to be the dinner.
Because one thing is certain, that the Ewoks are not a friendy bunch, and they like to eat people, despite how they look like.
So it is not very realistic that a human female can talk herself out of being eaten, especially if she does not speak the language.
I guess it is safe to say, logically she can not be in the village, without building trust first, what the scene offers that you want to delete.

As you say, there is a logical connection that we make. She is seen there in a dress with braided hair - clearly not in danger. It doesn’t impact the main plot to not show how she got to be there safely, and actually sidetracks from the important plot points to some degree. It also sets a precedent of Ewoks not being a threat which makes the capture scene feel more like a game at the Teddy Bear Picnic.

Is it too late for suggestions? 😉

Loved ESB:R.

The only thing that bugs me is really small: when Han shoots the Probe droid, then is talking to Leia, I wish that a quick shot of her computer screen with an image of the Probe droid was put in right as she’s saying “An imperial probe droid”.

Downloaded all 9 files from Mega, unzipped with 7zip, everything works great.
Do not need a Facebook account to view the page.

For those of you who mega’d already, spleen seeding would be awesome (pm me for invites ONLY if you have already downloaded and wish to selflessly share 😉 )

You download the torrent, then point the torrent downloader at the folder where the mega file unrared to.

I guess it’s time for the new mob craze “George Revisited First!”

But at least those folks have the GOTSE (George’s Original Trilogy Special Edition).

Wait… No. They’re stuck with the GTROTSE (George’s Thrice Revisited Original Trilogy Special Edition).

3 or so hours until the next teaser image!

Not if you just fanedit the III into a II. Then just do the same for the I and you’ve really reduced your wait time.

Or you could just imagine watching ESB Revisited. Movies are just tricks of the light, nothing more.

I’m 15 minutes in and I am vastly underwhelmed.

Really? I was happily surprised with the added subtle, tasteful nudity in those first scenes.

I’m sorry, but the clowns were neither subtle nor tasteful. And don’t even get me started on the horn trick. *shudder*

I know a lot of people missed it but the sound from that appalling horn display was actually Morse Code for “stop, she’s your sister!”
