The Mono Mix Restoration Project (Released)

Found it - it's in the form of a 665.2 MB .wav file. I don't exactly know how to go about doing this - Comcast is too unforgiving to upload it as a torrent, and I don't think I'd be able to do Rapidshare. Is there anything free I can use to upload a file just shy of 1 GB? And if I have to do it in chunks, how can I .RAR a file into multiple parts on a Mac to make it readable on both Macs and PCs?

If it'd be easier to send out physical copies and you want one, PM me and we can work something out, if I can't figure out how to upload the file.

please try to find a way to split it..

use winrar for osx, here's the function : http://www.win-rar.com/index.php?id=295&kb=0&kb_article_id=49

it's shareware...

or you could use : http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Compression-Tools/RAR-for-Mac-OS-X.shtml

its shareware also....... once you have the 6 chunks, almost any
file sharing site;.....rapidshare.com , megaupload, or zshare.net etc
will let you upload each part...

it would be much quicker getting it out that way....once i get it,
i can torrent it / combine it, etc..

ok, here's another free program that might be easier to use:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~loekjehe/Split&Concat/

split files....

thanks again...

I was gonna say...the 9 at fanedit/RapidShare is the full Revisited version. They list an NTSC Purist 5 on RapidShare and the same as a torrent on Demonoid, as well as various AVI versions, but the only PAL they list is a 5 Revisited, no PAL Purist 5 or 9.

Only a DVD-5 NTSC was released of the Purist and there won't be a PAL or DVD-9 versions I'm afraid

ok, sorry, then i'll change the description..

i've been under the impression that this release was the 'purist' verions..
my bad..

i'm changing the name now..

that's what i get for rushing things and putting it up..

i've learned my lesson!

i think i'll go back and watch it now, because i'm
confused what/where the changes are between
the 'purist' and the 'revisisted' versions...

recap: for the NTSC DVD9 VERSION ONLY

note : for the PAL DVD9 , you're on your own...but
several items do apply..

where can i get the .rar files for the DVD9?
--------------------------------------------------
1) http://www.fanedit.org -> search star wars revisited purist version
you WILL NEED a rapidshare account, or spend the next 3months
downloading 1 file at a time (hint, buy a temporary account)

2) learn how to use newsgroups, and download from a.b.s.w
============================
pros : as fast as your internet connection
con: degree of difficulty - moderate to hard, trying to figure out
newsreader/pars/getting messages etc..

where i can get a PHYSICAL DUAL LAYER DVD sent to me?
======================================
1) ask around, as several members are offering to send PIF
chains in different countries, etc

2) options for covers/labels etc...are up to the people doing this

------------------
pro : solid physical item
doesn't need internet
cons : finding a person, coordinating it
waiting for it to be sent out

where can i find the TORRENT file for the NTSC DVD 9?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1) demonoid
2) mininova

if you have to ask, nevermind......and no i don't have an account
on TPB/btmon/btjunkie etc.....sorry

pros : if you can't figure out how to get this, i really can't help you
cons : very slow for early users, but will pick up speed as the week
goes by..

your mileage may vary on each type...

I will be there as soon as its up.

ok, for all those people looking for the NTSC DVD-9 one, its up.
go to mininova or to demonoid....and do a search..

if you are impatient, you can also get :

type status seed leechers completed
----------------------------------------------
NTSC 5 seeding 4 6 14
2CD AVI seeding 2 5 19
1CD AVI seeding 1 6 35

for the non purist versions
type status seed leechers completed
-----------------------------------------------
NTSC 5 seeding 6 8 79
Adywan AVI seeding 3 2 91
1CD AVI seeding 5 2 157

be patient, i'm seeding all these versions,
so it will be slow at first, once more people join
in it will be much quicker.. it took about 5 days for
the NTSC 5 to be seeded.....i expect the DVD9 might
take a week if you have a fast connection, and i will
be leaving my computer on 24/7 (as always)....

enjoy them...and don't forget to pick up the
revisited soundtrack also...(not included in this torrent)..

I wish i could get hold of a Pre-THX release of ESB so i can see what the colours looked like before any form of correction was done, but that's going to be impossible. I never got this stressed out on the first colour pass with ANH. Maybe ESB isn't going to be as easy to do as i first thought.

point me to some links of the version you want.
if thats on laserdisc, i'll get it..
i have the ability to do video capture now..

just started playing around with the FACES-THX version of ANH,

Do you know if a paid member can download more than one file at at time from Rapidshare? If I could simply click away and download 80 files simultaneously, I might pay the fee.

yes - sort of. I don't know that you'd want to try and DL all 80 rars at once. With my DSL connection, I typically like to DL about 5 files at a time since each is 100 MB. Yes, I have to dl the next set every 30 min. When I've tried to do like 20-30 at a time they end up 'timing out'.

[EDIT: though if you have a decent download manager program, you can queue the files so they DL in order so you don't have to babysit. I did a trial of one that worked great, but the trial ran out and I didn't want to front the cash to buy it, can't remember what it was now]

any version of firefox with the FREE download manager called downloadthemall
'download them all'.....will let you get them all quickly..

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201

also

http://www.downthemall.net/

rapidshare lets you queue up to 100 files....however, if you do 5/10/20
at a time (depending on your connection)....i use 5, you can get then all
very quickly, and you don't even have to monitor them...

One last consideration from me. I want to have a 2 disc Star Wars Revisited set - basically, Adywan's cover art in a 2 disc case with the DVD9 as the first disc (Adywan's label) and the Purist Edition DVD5 as the second disc. Does anyone plan to make any disc art for the Purist Edition?

If not, either I'll try and make something (but I'm sure it's going to look awful) or I will just suck up and leave the unlabelled disc in the case.

Then, hopefully, I can get to work on that origami DVD boxset that should hopefully encompass Empire Revisited and Jedi Revisited.

if you go back through this thread, there is plenty of cover shots for
both the revisited, and purist versions, and if you get the dvd9,
there is cover art included....

here's a whole bunch of covers..

Hi, guys and girls!

sorry, did you say there's girls here? (ha ha)

I've been gone for a while now. I se that the DVD-9 is now available. Plus that I hear work on ESB has already began. Ady, your work is impressive to say the least, I hope you don't burn out because of us though.

Did anyone put the dvd-5 Purist Edit on rapidshare or a torrent? I skimmed through the page, but I might have missed it. You never know.

here you go...

I have also included the fix that ady sent me.

Once again I want to say a big thank you to adywan for taking the time to create what is supposedly the best effort in fanediting EVER created by a human being. You have given us NEW HOPE and let the Jedi return to our hearts.

excellent, i see you combined the rars together...is there a need
for another mirror of the originals from the newsgroups? (50meg files),
along with the PARS?

Anybody getting close to putting up a torrent anytime soon for the NTSC version?

should be up by tomorrow on demonoid/mininova if i can
double check everything...i'll probably post the non-ISO
version (VIDEO_TS) with the fix just in case...we'll see..

the DVD-5 version almost has 5 people completed after
a week, so it should be a lot faster getting that now..
i don't know how long it will take to get this..

if you have a rapidshare account, it will be a LOT faster,
as someones uploading it there, i could probably help
speed that upload also, if its not done yet..

'i've got a bad feeling about this'

[commentary]

ok, at long last i finally was able to finish getting
this......and now that i've finished watching it,
here are some thoughts...

prelude
---------
for some weird reason, i got through getting 80% of it (ntsc dvd9)
from the newsgroup without any issue, then i started getting errors,
etc...and had retry getting it again separately...fine, it was my first
time getting something like this from a newsgroup, so it was probably
my error......then when i was 99% done, my connection slowed down,
taking an hour for the very last part..(probably didn't need the par
file, but got it to be sure)....another hour later of unpacking, unraring,
and getting the files ready...so far so good....then for some crazy reason,
i decided to switch some cables on the back of my computer, and then
i 'accidentally' unplugged the computer, and messed up my video connections
too.....half an hour later, i finally got the computer back up and running..
i finally got back to checking the unpacked files, and then trying to burn
the discs... burning went pretty well, in fact i had NO issues burning the DL dvd
without even using the fix, so that part was good..

the viewing
=======
i have my computer splitting the video between a 20in analog+19in widescreen
in dual mode, and a 32inch widescreen HDTV..so i set it to the TV...got the
burned disc, and used Nero vision to play it..(actually VLC player crashed
halfway through it at the layer change i think)....i have an altec lansing 5.1
hooked up, and the sound, music, and effects were all very well done,
and sounded excellent..the picture clarity, and colors were fine..

conclusions
=======
i enjoyed it a lot, but i realized that i probably won't watch it too many
times.....i looked at all the changes listed, and saw the differences in
the pdf file..[i have seen the previous version, and DVD5 once before]..

but for some reason, now i'm paranoid when i'm watching at all the
little changes that were made, some major, some not, some subtle,
and others blatant....

now, i've only watched the original-original versions about 20 times
or so, so maybe all the 'fixes' were things i had never noticed before..
i'm sure most people have seen it a lot more times.....but there's a lot
of things that probably didn't need fixing (if you didn't know about it)..
and now i feel paranoid watching this version at what was really there,
and what wasnt..

anyways, i realize that this wasn't supposed to be a 'replacement' for
the original-original versions (right?).....but it is a corrected 'reinterpretation'
true to the intent of the original , or what adywan presented...

technically/ideally
----------------------
i like the colors, i like the updated special effects, and some of the
SE elements are still there.. however, ideologically, in my mind,
i'll always be thinking about the newer changes....and by the way,
i didn't mind a lot of SE changes either (although i agree some of
those changes weren't needed either)...

result
-------
an excellent and unbelievable effort in re-invisioning 'star wars',
but in some ways, a little too 'correct', even with the 'purist' version..

i don't recommend it for die-hards, as they probably want the
'vintage edits', or just the straight 'preservations' of the LD's etc..

for newcomers, that didn't like the SE, but liked some of the
restorations, its a little more palatable, but some changes still stand
out too much

for the fans that get all the edits, this is the premiere version..

-------------------------
in the end, i guess it comes down to your mentality if you can take
the changes...

however, for me, i think the original-original versions were enough
for me..
