That's your problem - you're using Memorex.

i've just burned 5 dual layer memorex discs at 4.8x (using a lg external
burner)......this is my first time, and every copy has come out without
a single problem....

tomorrow, i should be finished downloading this dvd 9 and will
report back on any issues, etc....

don't be so quick to judge the media, there's a lot of factors
that could/can mess things up..

Don't start nitpicking just yet. Remember this is Ady's first pass at color correction on TESB:R. He'll undoubtedly go back and tweak things shot by shot once he gets the levels balanced out in general.

who's nitpicking? we're just commenting on the screenshots up there..

of course it's too early to say what its going to look like, thats
why we're giving our opinions now to offer some feedback..

anyway, the idea of adding elements, like snowstorms, etc...
is fine if doable.....but i think it wouldn't be that subtle...

and it might stand out too much...

I loved the Puggo edition. Very interesting how they cut out some of the most important plot points to get them to that length.
I have all 3 movies on CED and I've been meaning to transfer them. I know there are one or two skips in ANH and ROTJ, but I haven't watched them in a loooooooong time so I'm not entirely sure about their condition. I just don't have the proper cables to connect my CED player to the computer at the moment.

hi bobocop,
hope it works out, i'd definitely be interested in seeing it..

if they are standard jacks, don't you need a capture board, or card
to connect them? or is that what you meant..or does the ced player
use different kinds of output cables...

were there any versions of star wars shown on airplanes?
i know those versions are editted down also..

Added a visual comparison between the colour correction done so far on ESB:Revisited and the 2004 DVDs on the first page of this thread

yes, this looks awesome as always..

however, just looking at the screenshots (maybe its my monitor/tv)..

these look fine (revisited):
==================
1 han in hangar
2 han in hangar 2
3 luke in ice cave
5 officers talking
6 leia and c3p0
9 troops in snow

i prefer the '2004 dvd' colors for these:
=========================
4 han smiling and leia
7 snowspeeder shot
8 leia and troops

sometimes the colors look natural,
sometimes they're too bright, its hard to explain..

maybe there could be a balance between the two..

The Puggo Edition - webpage and screenshots (Super 8 transfers - Released)
Time
well, this is going to be awesome once i check them out..

i'm really digging all the lo-fi releases (like the vinyl restoration
of the story of star wars).....

ok, if there isn't a copy of 'return of the jedi' out there..

how about recreating one???? (or faking it)..

i'm going to have a lot of source material soon (laserdisc etc),
but i could also go back and the a vhs deck/tapes etc , because
the source would already be at a lower quality to work with..
or maybe it would be better to go from higher-> lower quality..

use some filters, etc.......actually i should probably get some
pan and scan versions, and use those as a base for jedi..

i wonder if the very first laser discs/ced/vhs were preserved?

anyways, just throwing out ideas, while i kill time waiting for these..

keep up the good work..

(and yes, i'm totally serious about doing this), i mean i like
the revisited versions, and the purist editions etc.......but actually
am starting to prefer the much lower quality versions now..

the lower the better..

.:. MoveAlong's - The Story of TESB/The Adventures of Luke Skywalker .:. Complete!
Time
hey movealong...

awesome job on both ANH and ESB....

i never heard the vinyl versions before,
so watching both of them in order was amazing...

i don't have the technical skills yet...but i have time/resources..

in the next week, i'll have all 3 originals with books/vinyl..

i have ability to digitize/clean up vinyl..

i have a laserdisc player/dvd player/computer...
with access to video capture..

so i can do: capture from 'definitine box set', and 'faces THX' set..

now, i'm not going to try to match your production qualities or
anything like that......but i do plan to play around with it to
get an idea of how to work with the material.

you might be taking a break now, but i've got plenty of time/effort
on my hands now..........

keep up the amazing work......i'll be playing around with the material
very shortly..

Difference in quality of laserdisc players
Time
just picked a new laserdisc player

(my 3rd one)...the other 2 sony's died out...

i'm made it my personal mission to never give SONY 1 more
cent for all their failed electronics, etc..

anyways, its a DENON la-2500, it has autoreverse to play
both sides, s-vid out, and digital out.(TOS), besides the
usual.rca jacks...

i've only owned the SE laser disc box set..

but in the next week i'll be getting
---------------------
1) the faces 3 set THX laserdiscs
2) special definitive laserdisc box

by the way all were dirt cheap..
player $30, faces LD $15, and box set around $40....

i picked up 12 foot s-video cables today..

i have a pinnacle external dazzle capture box, and will
be playing around with it.. if the quality isn't that great,
i'll buy a capture card, or a better box...

i'm not quite sure what i'm going to do with them though..

i'm pretty sure every combination of capture of the LD's
has already been done (except for the XO project)..

anyways, it will be fun to play around with the sound,
and video, and see what can be done with them, until
i get a good idea at whats going on..

also, i'm playing around with premiere 6 (not CS, yet),
so i have learn how that works also..

anyone have any good guides/ideas/thoughts about
projects, video capturing, etc....i've been to videohelp.com,
and doom9, but i want to learn more specific stuff here,
i've looked at the technical threads about color correction,
and image stabilization, but its way over my head...

maybe a nice beginner project......(actually, i'm planning
on doing a 'the story of return of the jedi' from vinyl,
with video from the discs'.....that might be easy...i hope.....

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time
well, if someone gets there before me, i should have it all
this weekend....(NTSC version)

i put all the torrents up at demonoid, and mininova also...
purist versions
==============
1 cd versions (stereo)
2 cd ac3 5.1
dvd - 5

revisited
==============
1 cd versions (stereo)
2 cd ac3 5.1

so if i get the DVD-9 , i will put that up on both
also.....now, i'm learning how to download it through
the newsgroups, and honestly its A lot faster than
a torrent would be:(its a pain to set up )...
1) i'm getting a fast constant download (like rapidshare)
2) i don't have to worry about getting cut off, low seeds etc,
which always happens when i start the torrent

i have a rapidshare premium account, but i'll let adywan,
or someone at fanedit.org put it up there...because for
some reason, my upload speed is terrible , even though
i'm 'supposed' to have 5Mbs up.......

i'll post a note when i'm ready...if you don't have an invite
to demonoid, you can always find my torrents at
http://www.mininova.org

my torrents might be a bit slow at the beginning, but they're on 24/7
and also, once a few people get it....it gets a lot faster..

i'm also going to experiment with burning a DL disc...so honestly
==========================================
1) find someone to get it from , its faster
2) learn how to use newsgroups, its more constant/faster
3) wait for it to show up on rapidshare
4) wait for the torrent

Bent/Warped LD's
Time
yeah,
i've had a few bent ld's, and some warped ones also,

i didn't even heat them up, or put them between glass
(i guess you should)

i just stacked a ton of heavy boxes on them (they were
in a storage room), and checked on them after a few months,
and they were fine..

i guess if you heated them up,you wouldn't have to wait that
long....they work fine now..

Usenet tutorial?
Time
thanks for all the help,

this is my first time in about 15 years to use
newsgroups (and even then, i only used to
read text messages)..

anyways, i'm using xnews, and trying it out,
it looks like my isp (COX) has free newservers,
and i'm looking at a.b.s.w.... i found the headers
for the ntsc dvd 9 purist version..

it goes from 1/174-169/174,
but i don't see the rest..

and the last few are par files...which i figured out..

now to find those last parts?

any ideas?

thanks

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time
does anyone have any time to do 'a making of: star wars revisited'...

or has it been done? (extras, test footage, etc)..

and i don't mean going back through this thread, and checking
every page for developments and chronicling them..

i mean like an interview, with footage of how it was made
etc....yes, even if it means interviewing adywan only
to get his thoughts on it...

after seeing all the work that went into it, it would
be nice to preserve the effort that went into making it also..

wohoo!

finally got the purist dvd downloaded now..
will be putting up torrents at the 'demon'...

including
-original
-original (ac3) 2disc avi+soundtrack(flac)
-original 1 disc avi+soundtrack(mp3)

just to give people samples/different choices
if they don't have the bandwidth..

all should be up this weekend.
i will be seeding them 24/7 for awhile.
i've got lots of bandwidth, so that shouldn't be a problem...

thanks again adywan especially, and everyone else for the support

1)limewire is not a .torrent application, and it CAN possibly share files,

Limewire is my first application like this in years, so I may not be up on the definitions of a "torrent application", but my Revisited XVID, Revisited DVD-5, and 40 episodes of the Naruto: Shippuden anime would disagree with you. Why would you have a torrent app that wouldn't share the file? Aren't you supposed to have to pass it on?

/confused

i stand corrected..

what i meant was , it can possibly SHARE files that you don't intend it to..

when you first set it up, it looks for other media to share beyond just the
ones you should be sharing...in p2p torrent applications that can NEVER happen,
as you only can share the files you are getting, unless you set up a torrent to
seed......in limewire, you might have file sharing on, and inadvertently share
out your desktop/private files/etc unwittingly, which is what happened to the
user asking the question...

sorry for the confusion...........yes, limewire is a useful application,
its just not as easy to use sometimes for the beginning user........thats what i meant..

(i had it working once, but now it refuses to run on my computer)..

What's the generally accepted torrent download ap, then? I looked for settings like that in the one I had (don't remember the name) but I couldn't find anything to control external access to my machine.

1)limewire is not a .torrent application, and it CAN possibly share files,
avoid it

2) azureus used to be good, but got taken over by a company that
may change its operations, also it uses JAVA, which is slow and kind
of bloated at times, your mileage might vary....it could use up a lot
of memory

3) utorrent is a small fast program that a lot of people use because
its easy to pick up and get working...

go to http://www.oldversion.com/ -> file sharing -> pick up utorrent
version 1.5 http://www.oldversion.com/download.phpidlong=6f0c79ff61b72a97236fd85e786cb525
or 1.6 if you feel adventurous....

that should get you started.
(by the way, these are all windows programs, although i think
they may have clients for other os'es)..

Yes. You could say that.

thanks, for that..
i am a recent poster, but i've been checking out this board for at
least 2 years+ now....(in answer to how long i've been around)..

i didn't comment, because i really didn't have the ability to share,
or participate......now is a different story....

i just wanted to contribute and share the fantastic works i've found here,
and honestly this is one of the best, if not most passionate forums i've
been on...so i know things can get a little heated..

by the way, i am using that small nova, to get the file, and i'm about
50% done as there are a few others there now, and once complete i will definitely be sharing it 24/7 for others to enjoy..

one last thing, yes, i admit 'star wars' is my #1 movie of all time,
so seeing this version, and the other preservation efforts just makes
me appreciate it even more..

hopefully i will be able to contribute more to this great forum, and effort..

i'll admit, in being terse, i was just anxious to find a way to get the copy,
but now thats settled.....lets move on...

Well, the torrent just started, so what do you expect? If you're looking to leech, you might want to give it a week.

And besides, the person who started the torrent also started the PIF chain. I guess someone forgot to send you your personalized, solid-gold, archive-quality, professionally-pressed DVD.

hey erikstormtrooper,

ha ha, no offense taken...

actually, the seeder had posted the message awhile ago,
so i figured there would be more people interested in it..

actually, as soon as i get a copy/version/whatever,
i'll seed it in lot of other places....

i've already seeded the 'non-purist' version in 3 formats
over at demonoid 24/7 for the last few weeks....
(with at 80-100 total copies finished....along with
at least 6 other star wars related fanedts)

so if you really don't know what i meant, and obviously
