Well i have a PS3 and i can play my 1080p mkv HD movies just fine without having to re-encode them or use an expensive burner. i can usually fit a movie on a DVD-9 or split over 2 discs. you can also make blu-ray player compatible HD discs with chapters & menus by using plain old dual layer discs without re-encoding too.

Good luck with getting any new movies for you HD-DVD player :) As has been said HD-DVD is dead and will just fade into obscurity. It won't even have the nostalgia value that laserdiscs have. I think it was pretty much doomed from the start. Microsoft made a HUGE mistake when they didn't build their X-Box360 with a built in drive and a HDMI port. That could have tipped the scales in favour of HD-DVD somewhat.

adywan,

i totally agree with you, up until a certain point...yes, the xbox 360 could probably play mkv movies also...

(check out tversity : http://tversity.com/home

the fact that i can create hd-dvd movies, burn them on regular or DL dvd discs, means

i will NEVER run out movies....(****** COUGH, bluray rips->hd dvd COUGH******)

that combined with all the HD rips out there, means the actual format is irrelevant,

only the player is important.....and $50 for the player+ (xbox360) was cheaper

than supporting any sony player (yes, i know other people make bluray players,

but it will be a cold day before i support them or the ps3).... i'm sure a standalone

hd-dvd player is dirt cheap compared to bluray players also....

that and the fact that bluray movies are pretty expensive,

compared to regular dvds.......

so while i'm watching SW ep 1,2,3,4,5,6 in hd-dvd,

how long is it going to be before the appear in bluray format?

(and yes, someone could convert these files over to bluray,

burn them on a bluray disc, etc.......hmmmm......has anyone tried that either??)

A guy named Lucas once tried restoring some Ep.IV deleted scenes and re-inserting them into the movie.  Turned out very badly.

your sarcasm and irony are too strong for me...the force must be with you....ha ha..

seriously, not to rehash SE vs GOUT for the 10 millionth time...i didn't mind seeing the jabba scene (yeah, it looked funky, so what)..

but what was wrong with the biggs scene at the end?

and the long intro to mos eisley? or the new sandcrawler scenes?

like i said i've only seen the original <20 times, so the changes to the SE weren't as dramatic to me...

while your at it why not make your own beta and laserdisc, LOL.

HD-DVD died and is obsolete.

If George ever gets off his but and releases his preferred version you can bet it will be on blu ray.

well, i will never support bluray, thanx to those idiots at sony, i've been burned by their lousy formats,

overpriced crappy electronics, and shoddy cds/dvds etc way too many times....i hope george lucas NEVER releases a high-def version of

any of the star wars movies on bluray...and that goes double for bluray burners/media/etc........**#$*&#*)#$&)#

besides i could care less if hd-dvd is dead, i have a player that works (just like my laserdisc)...except i don't have to buy an expensive

burner to play the files at high resolutions.....so are you having fun playing your mkv files off your computer?

this way, i can preserve at least some of the quality of the files...and it will be interesting to see how they come out..

actually, a 13gig file could be split across 2 dual layer dvds....without losing any quality....hmmmm......

The only way GL would go for that is if someone appealed to his ego and sold it to him as a "before and after" mode - "Look, people can turn the FX on and off to see how much better SW is with the CG than without!"

i like both versions.....but then, i also like computer graphics/effects/art etc....

both versions can exist....depending on what mood i'm in...i could

watch either one..it really doesn't make much of a difference which one you watch..

It'd just be cool to me to be able to sit and watch the movie and when it came to a point in the movie where the Deleted Scene would have occured (according to the screenplay) it would automatically play it. I don't care if it's "jarring" or the quality is bad... I just want to watch it that way.

Some people have suggested that I create my own Star Wars fan edit just for that purpose, but I'm lazy. It's just too much work for me to do it.

I figure someone who is already doing a fan edit would have no problem making a branching version. It'd be like what they did with the X-Men dvd... you could watch it with or without the deleted scenes, even though the deleted scenes had unfinished SFX and were of poorer quality than the rest of the film. Heck, people did the same thing for the Episode III deleted scenes (the SFX in that "death of Shaak Ti/fuel tanks" scene looked like crap! there were visible green screens and safety wires too).

Restoring an entire 2 hour film obviously is a ton of work. These deleted scenes amount to just a few minutes in total. Even though they look really bad, I'm sure it'd be easier to restore them than to restore an entire movie. Somebody could even colorize the alternate cantina footage if they wanted to. That'd be sweet!

why don't go over to the technical forums, and actually learn how to do it? instead of just blindly asking..

there's plenty of people/experts that will help you out..

i'm new here, and i've gotten a ton of help/rare versions/ideas ...

put some effort into it, instead of waiting around, expecting for someone to hand it to you on a silver platter..

didn't you read my post a bit higher, where i said i'm putting the scenes back into the movie, or was it too

hard to scroll up?

just a quick stupid question, WAY to many pages to read in this topic :)

I just downloaded the dvd-9 ntsc version, does this allready have the fix done or must is still be applied to the iso?

check and make sure the files work on your computer, with a dvd software program,

or some other utility (vlc player, etc)...if it works you're fine..

if not, then use the fix...

don't apply it, if you don't need too..

ok,
i've put in a much higher bid, but i probably wont try that much harder
for this, since i didn't think this movie was as good as ANH....it just
wasn't as strong as the first..

anyways, if by some miracle i do win it...good..
(but remind me not to give a copy to Skot, since they
think that winners are always selfish)..

At the end of the day it's a television show and that's all it should be. I may like it or I may not, But from what I've seen I don't expect much.

i didn't expect much from the clone wars tv show, and didn't get much out
of it either....apparently you did, (or maybe you didn't), which is why
you're editting it now... did you actually think these short little clips
would amount to anything interesting?

see people can get suprised by (gasp) George Lucas' projects
from time to time..

so yeah, we'll all have to wait and see how it works out...

i on the other hand, can't wait for new material, and the fact
that its in the theaters makes it even more enjoyable..

clone wars (animated), could never exist anywhere but on tv...

My take on the new series is that it will be rubbish but I look forward to checking out the animation. I'ts almost Like George has the impression he needs to 'one up' the cartoon network series before he's satisfied. But his inability to tell a compelling story will probably see that end in tears.

I hate the fact they decided to air this thing in cinemas, They are hyping it to be something far more special than it is and I think that is a mistake. In the end we'll have to wait and see I guess. Not far now.

its nice to know there are mindreaders here..

by the way good to hear about the progress on this edit..

just because its in the theaters, of course its coming to tv...what
difference does it make? maybe its not special to you....but the
rest of 'star wars' fans would disagree..

i meant to say, i got it from the newsgroups, and put it up
on demonoid, i'm the one that started seeding the file
(and in fact am still seeding it now).....its coming from
the copy off my computer......

the first time i put it up, i put up the .VOB files extracted just
because of this issue, so you wouldn't have to download the
whole thing...but somehow a menu error came up, so i just
threw up the whole .ISO....which is where the screenshots

in fact, i'm watching it again right now, just to check what you said..

rewinding the scenes....[see below]....something is either incomplete,

just a question, if i had won, i would have shared it..what does
that say? (and yes, i won other expensive auctions before)..

again, if another copy comes up, maybe i'll try even harder...
but why should you expect to get it for free? because you 'deserve' it?

what happens when you spend your own large amount of $$$$ on
something? will you share it with us???? or will you just disappear
and keep it to yourself.....

yeah, i don't have too much to back up here, but i've gotten a ton
of free 'rare' copies (8mm, mono soundtrack, vinyl versions) from
people on this board...and they spend their time (2 years in adywans
case), money, and effort to share what they got...

maybe you should be cursing the greedy 'freeloaders' that don't put
up any money, and expect someone else to carry the load...
