Info: another 16mm print of SW on eBay

SKot said:

Okay, I've been unable to post lately or I would have replied to this much sooner...

negative1, you have jumped to a conclusion here that's WAY off the mark.  What I'm saying here is that it seems like almost every time we find an item like this, someone who isn't one of *US* (and who usually isn't even sympathetic to our cause) always wins the auction for a ridiculous amount of money.  And then whenever they are contacted by one of *US* from this forum about collaborating, invariably they either ignore it or reply that they are not interested in sharing their loot.

You, negative1, are one of *US* (or so I can assume even though you're relatively new, considering that you post here and seem to be sympathetic to our cause).  If you're got a lot of money to spend and you manage to win one of these high-ticket items on eBay that we keep hoping someone here will get their hands on, MORE POWER TO YOU!!  Because we assume that you will put every effort into sharing or collaborating for preservation's sake.  That's what we're all about here.

It's the people who throw away large amounts of money (more than I or many of us on this forum can afford) on rare items like these film prints and then sit on them with absolutely no interest in trying to share or preserve them that I curse.  They have the money and the means, but they'd rather hoard it all to themselves.  For some reason these kinds of people never seem to join forums like this, maybe because it's not in their nature.

For my own part, I spend a HUGE amount of my own personal time and money trying to make rare things or information available for other people.  It's what I am driven to do.  Have you ever seen the complete Return Of The Ewok on YouTube or elsewhere online?  That was my project.  Before the work that OCP and I put into that, nobody was able to see the entire film unless they got lucky enough to have Warwick Davis personally show it to them.  I do a number of different websites devoted to sharing rare information and material, a couple of which are Star Wars-related (starwarsholidayspecial.com and my Star Wars cut scenes site).  I've been on these forums for a good while now, and have contributed to a number of projects either directly or indirectly.  I would appreciate it if you did not question my integrity and dedication to the cause here without researching it first.

You have a lot of enthusiasm and willingness to put your money where your mouth is.  That is definitely something we need.  And if you want help from the community here to help offset the cost of a film reel or other item relevant to our cause, count me in!  Great things have been achieved this way, and this is the kind of thing I live for.  Let's work together and put all our efforts into doing what the official sources can't do or won't do.

SKot,

i'm glad you answered, and can see we're on the same page,

yeah, you jumped to conclusions (i've been on this board for several years from way back , never posted though)....just like i jumped

to conclusions about you..

let's put it all behind now...and work together for a common cause..

i would like a truce, so we can just continue working on what we care for.

(and no i've never seen any of your projects, sorry, i'm still new at actually getting any of these releases,

as i just now have gotten my own high speed internet connection, and can finally download some of these releases

i keep hearing about)..

ok, hopefully we can move onto the fun part of actually getting the material, and having

something to play with..

18% of LD owners cite Star Wars as a main reason for keeping obsolete format
Time

i will never give up on laserdisc, i have at least 100 of them, including movies (several variations of star wars trilogy)...

50+ music videos discs, that have NEVER been released on dvd, etc... oddly enough, i'm transferring them to DVD to watch/preserve, since i barely ever own/watch anything on DVD, and consider that a dead format....(and of course,by extension hd dvd)...

i guess i could keep them in digital only format, but other people keep asking for dvd's so i guess there's a reason for that... long live the laserdisc!!!! (and not anything by #*$#*9 SONY please, they've messed me up way too many times with their shoddy electronics, poor support, and lame releases)..

2006 DVD OOT
Time

i just got the 2006 DVD oot a few weeks ago,

and i'm happy with them.....they're basically a footnote,

since i have the 4 or 5 other released versions on laserdisc,

so i'm not really missing/gaining anything anyway..

its more of a convenience, and an easier way for people

who don't have laserdisc players to watch it....

i've only watched the theatrical versions a handful of times,

so i dont' notice all the color changes/different soundtrack versions/dialogues etc......

thanks George, its about time....

A Long Time Ago... - Share Your Star Wars Story
Time

i was about 10 1/2 , living in calgary alberta, canada, when i saw it..

i think i went with a friend of mine....after seeing it being advertised for ages in the paper..

i still remember the theater, and being engrossed at the story, the special effects, everything

came together in a near perfect experience...the battle scenes, the explosions, and the light saber battles!!

i told everyone at school, and from then on started my fascination with it.

here's the ad i saved when it was being re-released:

http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/1527/starwarsad78svq3.th.jpg

(had to go see it for the extra footage!!)

and here's some artwork i drew at 11: (i have a ton more of xwings etc)

http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/3452/starwarsart01sgv6.jpg

i bought the soundtrack, and played it a lot, and i still have the poster it came with..(along with toys,

all the trading cards, bedsheets, etc, etc)...

i watched the SE in the theater a few years ago, and i have it on several versions

of laserdiscs/and dvd now.....but still have only watched it < 20 times ever.....

empire was special too...as i watched the 70mm version here:

United Kingdom - London - Odeon Leicester Square

we were there on vacation, and i remember being enthralled

by the story, and surprised by all the revelations, and how dark

it was, and how it ended on a cliffhanger..

fast forward to houston, tx, 1983....a high school kid, i remember

lines around the block at the theater i saw it there, and everyone

was talking at school about the comic books, getting bootlegs on vhs

etc....i'll never forget each of those events..

Star Wars film versions and best DVD sources
Time

ok,

was there any differences between the 35mm version of 'empire strikes back', (maybe a mono mix? or was it

stereo only?) ...

and the laserdisc versions?(any of them)

or as mentioned in the beginning

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Empire Strikes Back (original theatrical version)
Best source: official 2006 OUT DVD
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

are they all the same?

i will be able to provide some information hopefully once we get ahold of

that copy, later

Max_Rebo's '97 SE superset' preservation (* unfinished project *)
Time

well, there were digital broadcasts of the SE according to this,

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-film-versions-and-best-DVD-sources/topic/6126/

see the first post,  and read the thread...

there's way too many versions out there....have to check the sticky's and read the faqs ,

and also use the 'search' function....i found they are my friends before i blindly decide

something is 'definite'...

The Special Edition wasn't needed.
Time

i disagree,

i liked the SE versions, and saw them in the theaters,

i only have seen the original star wars<20 times , empire<10 ,

and also for jedi<10. i've seen the SE a few times each also.

i didn't sit there, and watch them countless times afterwards either..

i do have them all on laserdisc (original trilogy), 1997 special editions, 2004 remastered etc.

and also on dvd (new special versions), etc...

i don't mind most of the changes, and i like the use of cg (i'm into computer graphics)....of course

i do prefer the original new hope (aka star wars)...out of sentimentality....

i don't care too much for the fan edits (including adywans) no matter what, since they correct/change

too many things that jumped out to me as looking unnatural as compared to what lucas did......fan

edits are fun to watch to see what people think they can do with the material, but the will never

replace the  originals........george lucas made them, and of course has the free reign to change them

however he wants.....but of course we don't have to support or watch them...

to each their own..

Do you guys have the ability to scan 35mm film?  I know my Epson scanner can do 35mm film... and I totally would if someone needed me to.  (Of course it only does one frame at a time so it would take FOREVER)

negative1, do you or anyone else remember the username of the seller? Even though the listing was removed, the guy probably still has it and you can always send a message through eBay.

Is someone going to bid on that trailer? I kinda wanna see it... I even would if no one else wants to.  (Provided it stays at a low price... it's not worth that much to me)

yes, i'm bidding on the trailer,

and yes i've already contacted the seller, and he's written

me back with an offer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

however, there's a small chance that he'll put it up

for bidding again...... so i've given him my highest

bid, and told him i will just buy it outright, since

i can't bid from work..

will let everyone know what happens later today..

fingers crossed...

(and no, i'm not forgetting that SKot won't be getting

a copy if i do manage to get it, unless there is an apology,

or some help in restoring it)

May I second Dunedain's request for a repost of Ep1-3 of these encodes? A lot of people seemed to have missed out on them, and even though I have a Giganews account, the only thing I could find 170 days back is a post of "Addicted To Star Wars v2", which is a nice gimmick (cool idea WookieGroomer) to have but unfortunatly not really suited for a serious evening at the (home) movies, if you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance.

"Here, here"...!!!  I'd be great to see a repost of Wookie's Ep1-3 13gb.....

Anybody...??!!!

: )

i'll be getting the 13gig version of ep2 (not 1, or 3 yet)..

but it will be a cold day in ***** before i ever touch a newsgroup,

or post files there (see my sig)....torrents work for me, so i don't

mess with anything else......besides here in the US, some providers

are cutting off the whole alt.* newsgroups anyways...
