Wouldn't it be awesome if the Blu-Ray of Star Wars was like this...?
Time

a couple of things,

ridley scott has a totally different attitude than george lucas..

also, (except for the final, and workprint versions).....all these versions have been available before,

so its not that great........i have them on laserdisc....and also they've been on dvd...[and yes i bought

this new 5 disc collection, and also on HD DVD]....

there are people that think the 'new' final cut is basically pulling a 'lucas' by adding things aren't

needed back into the original bladerunner.......so whats you're point?

all the OOT versions are still out there on laserdisc, and the new versions are on dvd......

and you think they should be re-released again?

Info: [16mm] - Star Wars Trailer _(Black and White)1977
Time

ok,

here's the deal..

there's no footage..

it's the same frame repeated many many times over,

the second half is for the film : the other side of midnight http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076507/

check this out:

--------------------

Because of a phenomenal success of the book, 20th Century Fox was sure that this was going to be a huge hit at the box office. At the same time there were such low expectations surrounding Star Wars (1977) that most theaters refused to book the film. So the distributor at Fox came up with the idea of a package deal: telling theater chains that if they wanted this movie they had to book Star Wars first. This movie went on to become a box office dud while Star Wars went on to become one of the most successful films of all time

so basically, i have the marketing trailer for the both films.......its pretty much a nice

souvenier / novelty piece..... no need to restore it..

but at least i have some 16mm film to mess around with now..

According to a friend of mine who worked as a projectionist in college, many large campus movie theaters are 16mm equipped. Prints of feature films were made for these venues. Overseas military bases also used to get their movies, and even tv shows on 16mm. Other prints probably have more suspect origins.

So would this still be worth going after at this point?

yeah,

what do you guys think,

would this be a good 'back up' for the 35mm version?

is it worth going for?

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

I think you can do that but you'd need a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player to actually play it

no you don't,

you can easily compress 720p, and 1080p movies, using various codecs from several avc/vc1-> avi formats on DVD9 (Dual Layer) formats ,

yes, you're sacrificing some quality, and if your dvd player supports it, it will play back at that resolution, you will have to check though............

unless you're very picky about resolution/details, and you have a huge screen, can you really tell the difference?

by the way, if you can't tell, i'm a purist, i prefer the 77 star wars, and the 81 ep V, and 83 ep VI, but i don't mind watching the SE versions ('from time to time'), but i don't consider them as a replacement.............more like a fan edit..

The 1981 version of ESB? I didn't know there was an '81 version different than the '80 version. What are the changes?

I myself don't mind the Star Wars re-release with "A New Hope" added.

As for Sith eyes, they're not needed. The story is told just fine without them.

oops, thats what happens when you get old, you forget.................maybe i did see it in the summer of 1980?

or was it still in the theaters a year later??????? no, there wasn't any differences............however, i did see

the 70mm version, not that i can remember the differences...i've only seen it 1 time in the theater, and the SE once,

and the GOUT version about 4 or 5 times since then..............

.......and yah to Doubleofive.... I guess that I appreciate the guy....(George), that gave us all of these movies, and I believe it is his story. With that being said, I think he and Lucasfilm really jacked up with the OT releases, and I still can't believe with all of their capability to fix and restore these old films that they gave us those crappy dvd sets? So I'm somewhere in between a "Revisionist" and a "Lucas Apologist", one that really likes the PT, "just so you know who you are dealing with"....peace......

why are a lot of people on this board under the illusion that the OT is not available in good quality?

(and yes, i have ALL the dvd full screen/widescreen/special edition releases also)..

i have it on laserdisc in at least 3 variations....definitive box set, the japanese box set, and the thx faces version..

i've had it for ages...........................and yes i have a high definition tv (32 inch)....................no my eyes aren't bad...

i don't see that the dvd versions are really that bad compared to the laserdisc, and people on this board, (ok excluding

x0, v8, and a few others), have transferred over the laserdisc version to that accursed dvd format......what else do

you people want???????????????????????????

yeah, i know most of you don't care about the SE versions of course, which are also *AHEM* freely 'available' in high definition formats..........

which blow away the SE dvd's.....

..............................its just a matter of time before those get de-SE'd down to the originals...............................

in fact if we can get the 35mm version of empire cleaned up maybe that might be it...preliminary tests of the scans are decent.....

see if you can tell the difference in that thread...

i just can't understand the griping, is it that hard to buy older longer lasting, and dirt cheap laserdiscs? or are people to biased against

older technology????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

by the way, if you can't tell, i'm a purist, i prefer the 77 star wars, and the 81 ep V, and 83 ep VI, but i don't mind watching the SE versions ('from time to time'), but i don't consider them as a replacement.............more like a fan edit..

i'm pretty sure these come up frequently, and i've only been looking

in the last few months...................

please be more specific.

is it worth taking to a preservationist the aforementioned 16mm trailer of 'raiders of the lost ark'.

or is it something that is not needed, and then i can scan it, convert to video, etc, without

worrying about messing up something historical..

you've given us no information about this. where was this trailer "aforementioned?"

sorry again, my bad

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320263705536&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=011

This is a 16mm cinemascope film clip from the film, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981), which fills up a 400 foot reel. The footage is from the end of the film, beginning with Indy and Marion tied up and the Ark about to be unopened. The clip runs through the end credits – so, yes, it has the melting faces. The footage is a scope dupe, apparently taken from two different prints. The first part is nice color, with rich blue tones. This footage lasts until the Ark ghosties appear and begin to get nasty. The last part appears to be Eastmancolor, with the expected reds apparent. It is otherwise in nice shape.

Please note that the photos shown are taken without the anamorphic scope lens, so the images are squeezed.
