@negative1

In another thread s7en said the Rowman discs use the North American sources without subtitles. I suppose I could upload those next week for you and adywan. Not sure I've got the fourth disc from that set though....

i would appreciate that greatly.

thank you in advance..

the whole hayden thing, i'm sure adywan, when he gets to it of course, could redo the Sebastian Shaw anikan head in when luke takes off the helment and replace it with haydens.

i think this already may have been attempted.

Oh god, no. Hayden will never appear in my OT edits

I'm still trying to fathom how he appeared in George's. Sticking in Hayden was far worse than sticking in Jar Jar.

why is it any worse?

anybody that saw the prequels first will 'get it'..

and people that saw the originals will ignore it..

doesn't bother me..

Star Wars Saga: Silent Film Edition (Released)

This is a 8M, PCM Wave file with a dirty mono mix, done with nero wave editor with the "re-analog" filter:

http://rapidshare.com/files/163960592/ess_old_sound.wav

 sounds good to me...

i think that people are confusing 'silent movies' which had live music,

with 'old films' which didn't have very good sound..

why would the sound quality be CD standard then? that's what makes it confusing..

having the old sound matches the picture quality...

if you want good picture quality and sound, then i'm not sure what this would be

called... you could just turn off the color in the originals,

and make them black and white to achieve that effect..

Possible Star Wars Holiday Special screening in NYC!
Time

i like how people retroactively look back at things and hate them..

i've never seen the special until a couple of years ago, and

thought is was fun and cheesy.. i certainly don't 'HATE' it..

i'm sure if i had known about it when it originally aired,

i would have been really looking forward to it....

obviously they wanted a tv tie in boost ratings, and have

something for people to watch during the holidays, so why not?

maybe now people think its so bad, that its good (kinda like 'plan 9',

'battlefield earth', and other cult classics)...

i'm sure kids nowadays would be bored by some of it,

but is it any worse than the ewoks or droids movies/cartoons/shows?????..

(which i STILL haven't watched yet...but am planning too)

Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal
Time

hello, and sorry for the long wait about this..

just one quick update (more on a personal note)...

i haven't had any time to get back on this project with

updating the 'star wars' restoration board due to real

life getting in the way.. i was in the middle of a possible

move and a job change when these arrived, so i had

to get those straightened out..

the good news is, i will be staying at the same place,

with the same job... so now i don't have to worry about

packing/moving etc... so i'll be getting back to this project

shortly..

i'm still waiting on an update about the transfer.

the last news i heard was they were getting an upgrade

on the equipment to handle scanning a positive print..

of course i'll let you know more as soon as i hear anything..

thanks again for your patience and support.

I cannot stand Jobs or Gates.

i guess you have a problem with a person giving billions of dollars

away for charity..

As of 2007 Bill and Melinda Gates were the second most generous philanthropist in America, having given over $28 billion to charity

have you tried encoding each VOB separately?

Sounds like a recipe for dropping a frame or three then scratching one's head wondering why the audio went out of sync.

If you try it, make sure each VOB begins with a navigation pack.  Many times a GOP can span two VOB files.

i've done it, and never had a problem (yet)...

the new version of DGMPdec seems to take that into account.

and also, when using HCencoder, it shows the frame numbers,

so you can match those also to make sure its there..

i have not had a problem with the audio encoding, as i don't

think 3 or 4 frames would throw it off that much  (i think) even if

 it did happen ...

Argh...'Tis exactly what happened.  :)  I was just coming on to edit my post.  I was following the directions in the Gout to Anamorphic thread, which doesn't seem to mention the "Force Film" option in the indexing stage.  Looks fine after I re-indexed it.  Only problem now is that VirtualDub can't seem to make it all the way through outputting as lossless.  The script ran for about 10 hours, and got as far as looking for R2, and came up with an AVISYnth error, which seems to be a memory problem ("could not reference...").  I'm trying a couple of tests now straight out of HC, checking video and also to see if subs appear, which they didn't seem to in Vdub, hang the extra time it'll take.  Thank, Moth3R!

have you tried encoding each VOB separately?

that way you don't have to do the whole thing at once,

and maybe you won't have the memory issue..

Bond 22: Quantum of Solace
Time

this review pretty much sums it up:

-----------------

http://www.monstersandcritics.com/movies/reviews/article_1442860.php/Quantum_of_Solace_-_Movie_Review

lowlights:

---------------

Cameras are placed at awkward angles, shots are too tight and it’s an eye-splitting jumble. Unfortunately, these poor production values mar chase and action sequences throughout the film.

There are no truly jaw-droppingly impressive gizmos. Another Bond wink bites the dust.  Just some agency owned superwalls - think CNN on US election night - and cool cars.

Bond is lacking in dimension of character but high on jumping, rough housing and shooting.   Craig’s rougher Bond fails to differentiate himself in the field of action stars today.  What originally set Bond apart from the rest was style, wit, sex and class.

All gone.

The brilliant, maddening, stylish, elegant and brainy spy Sir Ian Fleming created is dead. He has been reincarnated as an X-Box game character.

============================================

honestly, in this day and age... although still not excellent,

the bourne trilogy set the high mark....(only the first movie,

the second was a rehash, and the third was decent)..

yes, it had improbable chases, long drawn out fights, etc..

but it still had more intrugue, a better plot, and just out-classed

all the previous bond movies going way back to before brosnan

screwed up the entire series, with a sub-roger moore type bond..

that's what really killed off bond...

Whoa, wait a minute! It's GL's fault that fans of his work are so insane?

We were driven insane by watching CGI Jabba, Jabba's palace SE musical number, invasive ROTJ SE celebration scenes (with added Gungan) and Hayden Skywalker. ;)

and the original jabba, and musical number, and the final Ewok song were any better?

i don't think so, they were all equally cheesy...

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

i liked all the lightsaber battles in the PT,

they were a lot more dyanmic, and energetic than the slow,

plodding walking around, hit a few times-here-and-there

fights from the first 3 films..

they added a lot of tension and dynamics that were missing,

and showed how the jedi were in their prime..

not just a bunch of worn down warriors who couldn't fight..

to me anyways.....

whats the point of having such awesome weapons, if you

dont get to use them? or show how to?
