When did the prequels officially suck?
Time
C3PX said:

Yeah, it's brilliant! If only they could have had some halfway decent actors to pull it off...

the problem that will never be solved, is that

nobody can agree what the story should have been like..

some claim that the PT isn't as 'epic' as the original trilogy (despite

all the retcons, inconsistencies, and flaws that exist in it th e OT also)..

lucas faces a no-win situation, you can't please the old fans, because

it wouldn't 'match' what he wanted for the PT, and of course the people

that like the PT sometimes find the OT clunky, slow, and outdated....

you can't have your cake both ways, and eat it to..

i hear a lot of complaints (skyjedi2005, and vaderisnothayden) that nothing past

1983 is worthy of being star wars, or 'canon' etc.....

well that leaves a huge void doesn't it? who is supposed to write the story?

who's supposed to act it out? who's supposed to direct? do the music?

i don't think we could even find a majority of people on this site that could agree

on how it should have been handled? some like the EU stuff, others hate it,

same with the 'clone wars' (mixed opinions).......

it's pretty easy to criticize something that exists without supplying any kind of

alternate or substitute...yeah, you could say, just film the 'thrawn trilogy', or

just do episodes 7-9, and include the OT characters.... yeah, well someone

has to write it, and even stories from the EU that included the OT characters

aren't all liked universally....

do you really want to see han and leia married with kids? luke getting old?

chewbacca dying? i don't know.... i'd rather see the time periods inbetween

episode 3 and 4. or even the short time periods between 4-5 and 5-6....

be careful what you wish for..

Wookie Groomer's 1080p Star Wars Saga project (Released)

I know I'm way late to the party, but is there any chance of a reupload of the 12GB 1080p versions of episodes 4-6?

I'm downloading episodes 1-3 as we speak from a.b.starwars, but episodes 4-6 aren't anywhere as far as I can tell. Even a torrent would be nice, albeit a little slow.

With all due respect to Wookiegroomer, his HD versions of the original trilogy have been superceded by Adywan's 1080p versions in my opinion. Mainly due to the excellent colour correction Adywan has done on his releases but also due to the laserdisc audio. You're probably better of getting these, there are torrents available right now. You can convert them WITHOUT reencoding the video for playback on a 360 too.

you are correct...but a couple of things

1) adywan has only done ep 4/5 and not 1/2/3/6 so you don't really have a choice

2) adywan has included his own edits, so if you want the original SE versions, you'll

end up getting the wookiegroomer versions anyway

3) adywans sound mixes are there also..

4) adywans versions are compressed down to DVD9

so it depends on what you want, if you want a higher quality encode, and the

ORIGINAL SE versions, you're better off with the wookiegroomer versions...

(and yes, i know wookiegroomer has his own edits also)

No it's not a "pretty weak excuse". It's the facts. Nobody ever told me I could see it on youtube. If you've got a youtube link show me it. As for downloading, that's generally illegal and I don't do it.

ok, first off, i don't mean the MOVIE obviously, i'm still talking about the show.

when did downloading tv shows become illegal??????? i thought TIVO'ing / recording them/etc

and sharing without profit was OK (sorry to go offtopic here)...

later

You know, it's really annoying the way you sign off "later". It just has a sort of "f*** you" tone to it.

Now if you really want me to watch it, link me to youtube's showings of it.

SORRY , that's how i always sign off,

i Never meant for it to sound like that, it's just a short way of saying c-ya later, C-U-L8R, or however you want it.

look, the official : http://www.starwars.com site has a few full complete episodes

in streaming , decent quality..

they usually put them up awhile after they air..

i'm not sure where you're from (in case they're blocked).. but yes youtube, veoh, and

most other video sharing sites have the episodes posted in full..

and not that its hard, but there are people that are willing to share them if you really

want them, my point is, its not that hard to find something if you're willing to look for it,

and ask..

almost everyone here on this board is willing to share, if you just ask..

saying that something is not available, when obviously it is, was what my point was..

ok, and a last (psychoanalyst) note, YES, i'm a grouchy alone, OLD guy,

(kinda like the old ben kenobi in his cave, if you will)..

without anyone to share

this stuff with, which is why i come across in this tone, i don't have anyone to tell me i'm

wrong, or tell me i shouldn't say something in a certain way, it's just how i am, don't take

it personally, i'm like that with EVERYONE.... maybe if i had a real life, i wouldn't be posting

here about one of the things that i actually look forward to every week, and detract me from

my boring/plain/simple life that i normally have..

I think you might first do well being concerned if negative1 has had a bad day, considering the tone of his post to me. There was a whole lot of sneering and implying I'm dishonest and telling me where I should post. Hardly friendly posting. Maybe we have reason to be concerned that the poor guy has had a really bad day. Otherwise why would he lash out at me like that?

well first off, i have to commend you on actually not loosing your cool, i'm not sure where the

'dishonest' vibe came from..

i meant to say YOU COULD JUST LIE and say that you didn't like it, but you didn't,

you actually went out and watched it, well good for you..

I'll probably see more of it sometime to get a better notion of it.

excellent, glad you're giving it a chance..

But I seriously can't get the enthusiasm some people have for it. All in all it could be worse though, I guess. But from what I've seen it's hardly the "step in the right direction" some people have hailed it as being, let alone at all OT-ish.

Oh and I saw the first episode of A Clone Apart, which was way cooler.

well, for a show that's 11 episodes into a 100 planned ones, that's quite a ways to go..

but again, kudos to you for giving it shot..... now you can contribute more to this conversation.

well, i dont' think that will help blu-ray obviously.......but if that was one

outlet where the market penetration would help the sales of movies,

it probably wont..

but then again with the sales down all across the board, you could

Sounds like an epidemic! Yeah, it is very easy to find obscure stuff. All these things I dreamed about owning or watching again since I was a kid, and suddenly there they are. Wholes in my comic collection and issues I had never had a chance to read, there they are, nice small compact files, read beautifully on the PC screen (not that I even have time to read comics anymore), many of them impossible to find in the real world unless you dedicate your life to searching for them, and now instead of filling up boxes and boxes, they only feel up a few discs.

err..speaking of obscure stuff... i found the 'beyond westworld' series that we mentioned

in the michael crichton thread, pm me...

I started down that dark path myself, infected by my college friend no doubt. One evening my wife and I were suppose to go out somewhere, and I had just discovered a motherload of somethings I absolutely could not live without. After a period of "Yes dear, I am almost ready, just one more second, I have something I need to take care of", "Hang on, I'm almost finished" "Just give me a few more seconds", "be there in a minute", "hold on, almost there", etc. She finally stopped nagging me, after getting a few more things started I got up and in two seconds I was ready to go out the door. I shouted down the hall way that I was ready to go, but go no response. Finally I went to the bedroom to find her in her pajamas watching TV. Needless to say, we didn't go out that night, and I felt like a total jerk. I thought of my college friend's wife, and how much she complains about how he is always in front of the computer, and decided I didn't want that to become me. The next day (after the things I couldn't live without finished downloading of course ;) I uninstalled my newgroup reader and my torrent program and never looked back... I've been dry for going on 16 months now (okay, not really, I still "sneak a drink" from time to time, but I broke the habbit of DLing just because I could.

ok,

i've stopped downloading the INTERNET now... it's on hold for now, ran out of blank discs.

but my resolution is TO SORT THIS STUFF out before getting more and more.

- now , i only get

--------------------

recent show/games/movies... and not just entire series for the sake of getting them...

i hope it will last!

but sometimes i feel like i'm 'wasting' my high-speed connection if i'm not doing something

with it..

i think i'm going to cut back from the super high speed access - to the low one, but the

price difference might not be that much...............hmmmmmmmmmmm...

Oh quit trying to hit me over the head for not liking your sacred show.

maybe if you actually HAD a valid opinion about the ACTUAL SHOW people would actually

listen or read what you had to say (but since you haven't actually seen it, not liking something

you haven't seen is kind of preemptive)

When there's been no decent Star Wars screen fiction since 1983 and Lucas clearly has some severely mistaken ideas about Star Wars, then the quality is not going to suddenly rush in in some kid-aimed animated show with awful animation set in the prequels universe. Not going to happen.

right..... and there's nothing to look forward to in the live action show, books, games, comics,

or anything else 'star wars' related... you can just keep re-watching the OOT over and over

again..

As for the claim that the show could be OT-ish, that's even less plausible then the idea that it might be quality. And I'm not going to change my opinion just because you tell me to. Maybe someday I'll see this show, but until that time I'll reserve the right to bet that it's crap. I can't see it now because they don't show it where I live. So maybe you should get used to me having an opinion you don't like.

so you think that people that HAVE actually watched the show don't know what we're talking

about? since you don't know about the actual references to the OT (because you haven't

bothered watching them), that's right tell us something we don't know, when you yourself

admit you don't even know what its about...

and then you claim 'someday' you 'might' watch the show? how convenient.

look it up on youtube, download the torrents, download it directly from newsgroups/rapidshare,

but don't complain that you can't find it, or it you can't get it... that's a pretty weak excuse,

maybe you don't want to watch it , and find out you were wrong..

And btw, if I ever suffer through episodes of this show and find it is indeed crap then you'll be hearing an awful big I told you so.

there you go presuming again, we'll if you're going to have low expectations, or make up

your mind ahead of time, what's the point? why not lie, and just say its horrible, and spare

yourself the trouble of actually watching it?

yeah, and if you're wrong about the show, and actually like parts of it (i almost fainted

when i read skyjedi, and adywan found some positive things about the series)..

i'm pretty sure you wouldn't admit, or even bother posting that you were wrong.........................

last time i checked , there was already a post about the 'clone wars' movie,

which is where all your posts should be, maybe you post your thoughts over

there, until you actually do watch the show..

well, i wouldn't say 'no one' is buying them,

Skyjedi....I assume you know that the Clone Wars movie was just 3 or 4 episodes of the new tv series put together to make an episode long enough to be a movie. And....I can't tell by your posts if you've actually seen the movie yet, if not, you can rent it at redbox for $1. I thought it was great, however, even if you hated the movie, the series is way better! You should definitely check that out, every Friday night on Cartoon Network.....or if you don't have that channel, free on Star Wars.com.......much more like the original trilogy, and many nods to the OT.....just check it out, I really think you might be surprised.....peace....

Actually I know my facts quite well. I was not under the impression that it was shown on tv. Lucas saw some stuff from episodes of the show (which hadn't yet been aired) and he decided to make a movie out of them. So it was made from episodes of the show. And yes it's the start of the show. Just because it wasn't aired on tv doesn't mean it isn't the start of the show. So yes it is the tv series.

if you want to argue about semantics, then fine... but saying a movie = tv series, is false,

since it was NEVER on tv, that's my point, you can watch the tv series without ever having

the movie, and still 'get whats going on'.........  and my point still stands, just because you

watched the 'movie' doesn't mean you've watched the tv show, which has had several

episodes that are well beyond the scope of the movie, and have shown a high and

consistent quality..

As you can see, I grasp the basics quite well. Do you? After all, your post implies you misunderstood what I said about the movie coming from the tv series, which implies you were not aware that it was made from the tv episodes. Which is pretty basic knowledge.

My criticisms are not a moot point, because I have seen the movie which is the beginning of the tv series.

yes, i knew it was GOING to be made into a tv series, and because IT WASN'T, thats why

it comes down to semantics..... again, you have nothing to criticize about the current tv series,

becuase you haven't watched any of the new episodes, or at least you won't admit it.

that was my point. if you had, you wouldn't be complaining about the quality or tone of

the 'clone wars' in the manner you did.

And I'm sick of people saying people are "living in the past" just because they don't like something new that's crap. New isn't always good. Change isn't always good. If the new stuff is crap then that's plenty good reason to reject it and stick with the old stuff. That isn't "living in the past", that's being reasonable.

It's nothing to do with not facing reality. We face the reality that Star Wars has been screwed over. That's why we're "complaining" about it. Facing reality doesn't mean you have to be happy with the state of things. Facing reality doesn't mean you have to accept crap just because it's the in thing now. Facing reality doesn't mean you can't criticise what deserves to be criticised.

i realize, and agree partially with what you are saying.. especially about criticism..

but if you think about it..

basically : if old stuff = good

and new stuff = bad,

by your viewpoint, so you shouldn't ever look forward to anything?

be excited about anything? want anything new? read/watch anything good?

[star wars related that is]

that's what i meant about living in the past,

because you'll always be happy there, and

won't have to put up with whats been done...

it's a means of coping with things that are unpleasant,

instead of facing them....

and like i said, what would talk about then? that hasn't

been said before.. yeah, it's not complaining, but its not

very interesting either.
