Has anyone figured out a way to burn a standard DVD from these files? I know the whole point is the HD but I wouldn't mind having a decent color corrected copy to watch while I wait for revisited.

cheers

downconvert the file to a DVD-resolution and then burn it, there's a lot of freeware

converters (or commercial ones) if you prefer... go to http://www.videohelp.com

and search under tools.

i've already made my own 720p, and dvd-resolution versions using all2avi (freeware).

<strong>The Clone Wars</strong> (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

just started to catch up with the show again..

i REALLY liked the two parter with Dooku, lots of premonition

for episode 3 going on,

and the banter/friendship between obi-wan and anakin was great....

YES, there was some jar jar slapstick going on, but it wasn't too bad..

good to see the show is off to a strong start this year..

can't wait until there are more episodes coming to watch...

Hey, negative1, what movies you getting? :)

well, they're not too into sci-fi (but i will show them star wars!), so they'll probably get more of the action/drama/suspense type movies.. just for kicks, i started them off with indy 4, (Which i actually liked).. but anyways, one thing i did notice at the store, is that tv's that have the 120HZ processing make the picture look 'different', like its 'live' or something else, it gives it a strange video effect that's hard to describe.. has anyone else noticed this? the picture doesn't blur either, and that's a nice change.. later -1

Blu-ray prices not coming down
Time

again,

i'm #&*$&#*$&(# giving in, (selling out,etc)

today, we're going out to buy one of the higher end samsung BD players,

and some discs...along with the 52inch tv...

we won't have our sound system installed yet..

but i plan on giving the blu-ray player a big workout, and see HOW well

it performs, its quirks, etc..... should be interesting to jump into a new format..

(of course, since i'm not paying for it, i can try to be more impartial to it, i hope)..

Ok, what kind of screen do you have?
If you sit back from where I am standing it counts.

good point, and very true observation..

i've watched it on a 60inch screen at a friends,

and my folks are getting a 52inch REAL SOON NOW (This week),

and i have watched it a 40inch (my parents), and my own 32 inch

widescreen..

so i've seen both versions modified SE, and the ANH:R (9gig version) on all types

of screens, and the big quality difference jumps out to me...

i'm actually wondering if the 15gig version of the modified SE will be

even better quality (it should be)...

I've been watching the 1980 edition of empire. Its so good. I'm glad Adywan is making his edit like this one.

how is this edit 'like' the original?

the whole point is to make plenty of changes to 'fix' the original.

especially, if you look at the list of all the changes.

that's a statment that isn't clear, logically looking at it.

that's like saying EP4:R is 'like' the original EP4, which it wasn't.

Just watched most of the 1080P AVCHD Adywan made for Episode 4.

No thanks, the small jump in quality isn't enough for me to part with his EP4 Revisited.

All I do now is look at all the mistakes in the SE now.

Spoiled am I..hmmm?

small jump in quality?

are you looking at the same picture? there's 4-6 times the resolution difference..

i understand its the modified SE vs modifed OT version difference...

but to say that it's small jump, is wrong.

i'll take the 1080p SE modified version ANY DAY over the Adywan revisited version

for the opposite reason (the changes jump out there to me).. the added resolution

is icing on the cake.

couldn't tell you exactly.. all i know is that windows media player has a huge

amount of overhead..

i use an older version of VLC (the new one has too much overhead), and

other players like smPlayer, and an older version of media player classic

work fine..... even on a regular core 2duo, i'm sure if your computer is

powerful enough to decode it, its just a matter of finding a player that

Blu-ray prices not coming down

Anyway, the PS3 is no longer the only game in town for a Blu-ray player in its price range, so in that respect, its effect on the success of Blu-ray is tapped.

oh #*$(#*$&($&# , i just helped my parents buy a new 52" 1080p HDTV,

(along with 5.1 speakers, brackets, tv stand, etc), and guess what,

yes, a #$&#(&$( blu-ray player too................BUT NOT FROM SONY, its a samsung

player, so at least i feel a little vindicated.... because once i showed them the

difference in quality, they felt it was worth it... also, that and the fact they

needed a new player for DVD's anyways...

so yeah, some people are getting them..

At this point, Blu-ray hardware manufacturers have moved so many units that Blu-ray's future as a format looks very bright. I don't see it ending up like laserdisc at all.

it didn't look too bright to me, i see a ton of low quality quick-rehashes being

put out as quickly as possibly on blu-ray ..... yeah, like we need all those

comedies, and romances, etc in hi-def..... anyways, THERE IS NO WAY, that

the breadth/depth/variety of movies on blu-ray, and the number of titles

will EVER match dvd/laserdis/vhs numbers anytime soon... especially if they

want people to replace their old libraries yet again in a different format, for

what, the 4th or 5th time now?

wasn't it hard enough convincing people that had VHS/laserdiscs to buy DVD's,

and now they want to do it again? that's why i think that it will always be

relegated to a niche status .... i guess we'll see how well blu-ray does in the

coming year.... i know i'm not buying ANY of them..

-1 you are a walking talking paradox. I find it hard to believe it's you who posted this message man. You who procliam that OT fans should "stop living in the past." You who say "anything that continues the Star Wars story is good." Despite what that continuation does to the characters. You seriously wonder why someone else likes a continuation of another story!?!? Really, this is just too contradictory for words.

just because i LOVE star wars >>>>>>>>> terminator

doesn't mean what i says applies to everything.. i was perfectly happy

with the first terminator, and COULDNT STAND what happened in the many

other movies/tv shows/comics etc....

Anyways about Terminator: Salvation I'm looking forward to it. As a fan of Christian Bale I hope he pulls off a good John Conner.

hey, i like christian bale too (except in the 'batman' series)... thats why i

said i'll give it a chance also.... maybe a huge reboot will do it justice finally.

Also, I am pretty sure Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein isn't a sequel to Frakenstein, if that is what you meant by listing it as a sequel or a remake.

yes, right, of course it's not related to 'frankenstein', it's just another

movie in the series of 'abbott and costello'....it's not their first one..

that's what i meant.

LOL, you'd expect them to pick a sequel before the original? Has nothing to do with them preferring it over T2, or recognizing true greatness, T1 was unique, T2 was a sequel, and a damn good sequel, but still just a sequel.

ever look through their list?

http://www.loc.gov/film/titles.html

theres sequels/remakes in there too..

 from their list:

---------------------------

ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN (1948)

BEN-HUR (1959)

BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935)

etc etc.. granted not too many, but they're there..

on a totally sideways related note..

'terminator' has been tagged for film preservation:

http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/entertainment/Terminator-to-be-Preserved-in-US-Film-Registry.html

there's a lot of other places picking up the story..

The low-budget film directed by James Cameron set a new standard for science-fiction and made Schwarzenegger, now California's governor, a star. The Library of Congress announced Tuesday morning that it's one of 25 films being added to the National Film Registry.

THANK GOD they picked the first and best movie out of the series,

and not the dumbed down/wimpy version that was Terminator 2..

good job on the people picking these films, and recognizing true

greatness when they see it..

great points everyone..

it would be interesting to see this site, i think..

if IT WAS ONLY OT topics/talk only..

and just ban all talk of PT, EU, clone wars, etc...

guess what, this thread wouldn't even exist, right????????????????

i wonder how well that would work out?

would it get really, really quiet?

hmmmmmm....

i think that blu-ray is just a stop-gap measure before another standard takes its place, or more people go digital..

just as digital downloads have replaced/outpaced physical sales with music.. it COULD happen with movies also, given the right combination of infrastructure / pricing / availability...

i'd like to think blu-ray will become a high-end videophile niche, much like what happened to laserdisc....

it will never go away, unless and IF, (and that's a big IF), they start discontinuing dvd's, and go blu-ray exclusive.. that would really push the format along....or have some (*AHEM STAR WARS*) movie that would also push it further..

again, the PS3 factor is really fading away.. PS3 sags in battle against xbox 360/wii http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123050978162738293.html?mod=special_page_campaign2008_mostpop

"But early results from this holiday season aren't promising. U.S. sales of the PS3 fell 19% last month from a year earlier, while sales doubled for the Wii console and rose 8% for the Xbox 360, according to research firm NPD. "

Now it is a fanedit board and prequel and special edition lovers hang out and most of the old members no longer post here and the preservation or trying to get the originals released in the best quality is now mostly dead.

so would you prefer it if all the preservations were 'dead'?

what about all those people that are still working on them?

should we just give up like you have too?......

yeah go ahead and keep complaining, some of us are actually

still working on restorations whether you think we're dead or you

don't feel like any progress is being made..

i'm sorry, but the original trilogy is not enough for me, i care

way too much about star wars, and i want MORE, more of the prequels,

more of the 'clone war's', more of everything related to star wars..

it gives me something to look forward too, instead of being stuck in

the past..

yes, believe it or not, it's pretty easy to get the prequels on 35mm film..

and yes, of course, i've added to it my list of film restorations to do...

(of course after the original trilogy gets done)...

....[returns to check on thread after a couple of years]...

all of THE STAR WARS movies should/will be preserved...

since of course, i liked them all (but in different degrees)..

Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal
Time

well,

the GOOD news is there will be something good happening in a few months.

i'm back at my job, so i'll have the funding to help continue with the effort of the

transfer (needs to be updated to handle a positive press scanning)...

i've looked over both prints of 'star wars', and we'll try to get both done,

and see how they turn out... (empire will come later)..

the preservation site is down currently, but will be back up and running,

i'll let you know when..

this will be another great year for 'star wars'..

thanx for the interest..

Video Games - a general discussion thread

I can see where guys like bkev might find the Wii gimmicky, but I feel that it is just another step in video game evolution that Nintendo, like usual, is pioneering. A Blu-ray player on PS3, how is that not a gimmick aimed at selling consoles?

it depends on what you think constitues a 'gimmick'... when sony set out to make the PS3,

they weren't too worried about the game portion of the system, because they figured they

had the market with that.. but they wanted to push the Blu-ray format, and also market

the machine more as an entertainment system with movies (etc), and not just games.

they had a heavy investment in blu-ray, and yes even though technically you can put

more data/etc on it, that was just a future proofing for it.... they really didn't think they

had much too lose when they did that...however, the added cost/complexity/and delay

for the system has caused them to be in 3rd place...

here's a few more articles about the ps3

and the problems its having (i posted it
