It's good to see you back Negative1. I'm probably one of the only ones on the board here that actually agreed with you on a lot of your views of the PT & OT. I too understand how real life can get in the way. Boy do I know. As long as you stay in touch every once and awhile and make yourself available to trusted folks like Adywan when the community has questions, I think that will qualm a lot of fears about this project dying. I know there are a lot of people who are interested in seeing this all come to fruition, but I'm sure they are a bit sceptical that it ever will. People don't like to get their hopes up and I don't blame them.

thanks, i want to talk about something else briefly (it has some relevance, i think)

believe it or not, i'm not a very social person.

every single person i know is married, has kids, or is involved/girlfriend, etc.

i just turned 42 this year in april, and it hit me hard..

really hard.

===========================================================

how do you tell people about what's going on, when nothings happening?

seriously, even though i kept in contact with someone (who of course told

me to keep everything private)...  i kept waiting and waiting and never gave

up, even though i told them i had the money, and was prepared for whatever

they wanted to do..

nothing happened, and there was nothing i could do about it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

fine, so i'm the bad guy now, and even though i stated from the VERY beginning

that this would take a long time. people still want something to happen on their

schedule, and not with real life, and its delays and problems..

==============================================

anways, back to my lack of communication skills..

i've ALWAYS been a loner.. that's just how i am.

i don't even talk to my parents much, since i really can't stand hearing

their complaints about me all the time..

i have one brother who i keep in touch with, but he doesn't really talk to me either..

so you can see why, i feel like i don't need to keep in touch,

because the last thing i need is a bunch of 'parent's that keep asking

me what's going on, and what's happening.. i get that in real life, and

i can't STAND it..

ok, i'll get of my soapbox now..

----------------------------------------

back to the fun stuff..

its STILL going to be quiet (DUH), because if stuff DOES happen,

well, i can't go around getting people too excited because we

don't want to attract attention..

great catch-22 situation to be in..

i may not have handled this too well,

but if you were in my shoes, what would you do?

be seeing you

seriously, how do you think i felt all this time?

1) the prints have been preserved in trunks now, and i haven't even opened them

up since this january

2) we all knew this was going to be private anyways, so why get excited if nothing

was happening?

3) my previous contact did keep in touch, but kept putting things off due to technical

reasons (i couldn't do anything about it)

4) i chose to keep quiet, rather than continously telling people something was happening,

when in fact nothing was happening.

on another note..

5) did anybody see 'fanboys'? i thought it was OK.. it wasn't that great, but it had a few good

moments..

ok,

i've replied to everyone that emailed me.

and i'll keep doing it as long as i have to..

look, i screwed up i know..

but you should have my phone number, and other

contact information now.. i'm sorry i had to put 'star wars'

on hold for real life... i know you guys that actually have lives

know how to balance it a lot better than i do..

there's been layoffs at my job, everyone is working twice as hard,

its been that way since january. i just had my first vacation this

year last week.  i've been putting in overtime, and doing extra work,

to ensure that i have a job..

please realize, that no matter how badly i wish things had progressed

they didn't, and i couldn't really do anything about it.

i'm not trying to make anyone feel bad. but seriously, i deserve all

the hate. i'm just not good at keeping in touch, or being accessible.

i've been burned by so many people, and people that i thought were

friends SO many times, i've given up a lot of times too..

(you can skip this sickenly sweet part here)  yeah, i met a girl,

an amazing one (no, she's not into star wars), maybe my first

date/girlfriend ever....it's a huge thing for me, and it's taking a

lot of time an effort, so what can say? maybe my priorities have

changed? [and it does take money of course]...

look, i said i will answer anybody, with any questions they have.

so TIVO recorders, and other devices are bad? that's not my stance.

the shows are already out there, how is that 'pirating'?

Damn -1 your Bluray bashing is REALLY getting tiresome,Is there a way to ignore others posts on this board,it is always the same BS from the same people, really friggin tiresome,if you HATE Bluray and Sony JUST DON"T BUY THE STUFF! simple as that, every day we have to read your negativity, this thread is pretty informative aside from this BS.

sorry for the rant, and going off topic, but lets get back to the constructive criticism and such,I am really enjoying the arguments made here.

WOW the ignore works,no more negative posts,GREAT feature Jay,I love it.

well,

show me one positive article about how sony did last year, or how well they're doing now.

here's some commentary:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28788149/

Sony forecasts first annual net loss in 14 years Chief executive vows pay cuts, job reductions and trendier gadgets

Battered by slumping sales and a strong yen, the Japanese electronics and entertainment company expects to sink into a 150 billion yen ($1.7 billion) net loss for the fiscal year through March, a reversal from 369.4 billion yen profit the previous year.

Profitability had worsened at its video game and movies units, as well as with its financial businesses in Japan, including an insurer and Internet bank, it said.

etc..

so don't want face the reality? sure all the companies are hurting too.

but they didn't go around with the arrogance that sony had.

i do have to thank SONY for being so stupid about everything this year.

(including the Blu-ray fiasco...)..

1) losing a ton of money this year, due to stupid marketing and overpriced items.

like the ps3... good job on keeping the price up, when the others were reducing

them..

this will help them stay in 3rd place, and keep losing money, and keep more people

from getting the ps3

2) marketing the ps3 as a media player instead of a game machine .. unfortunately there

are cheaper blu-ray players out there, so yes it hurts sony, but helps the format, oh well

3) sony keeps trying cram propietary and ridiculous formats on people, and at some point

they will just get tired of it.... i think it's pretty sad that it's taken sony how long to update

their music players? what a joke...... yeah, maybe when the sony name actually meant anything,

it was cool, but apple, and every other company out there has taken away your value for

branding on anything..

so in other words SONY, keep up the bad work, and keep messing up the company with

record losses, and losing market share.......

hopefully this will trickle down, and kill off a few more of sony's projects/hardware/ and other

mishaps they keep trying to push on people..

so you think you won the war with forcing people into blu-ray?, i hope you're enjoying the results of it..

personally,

i don't mind subtitles over the pictures (if there are any)...

i don't really have to worry about that issue to often..

besides, we all know that 16:9 was a terrible compromise

that doesn't fit many aspect ratios correctly anyways?

and why are there so many in this format if there wasn't a point to it? (star wars)

i could care less about watching tv shows (i don't even have cable)..

i want a super wide monitor, to use with my computer, and if it shows

movies without compressing them, then why not?

i guess all you guys like the black bars on your 16:9 films or having them

converted to fill the screen at the wrong aspect ratio? how is that a better

solution?

i currently have dual monitor setups for both my computers, and I love have super

wide screens, i was going to go DUAL - HDTV's pretty soon, but with this, i would

only need 1 tv....

let's see if it can catch on or not.

This is a sad day for all LD (Laser Disc) fans... Pioneer is stopping the production of their three latest LD players, the DVL-919, DVK-900 and DVL-K88...

For your information, Pioneer sold over 3.6 Million LD players in Japan from 1981 to 2002.

no more production of the last 3 players from panasonic..

very very sad news..

(but good for collectors)..

now i know how the CED collectors felt when they stopped making those..

Where are you going to store all these Blu-ray titles anyway? A $250 Blu-ray player is too expensive, but tossing a couple terabyte drives into a media server to store a modest Blu-ray collection (in addition to the costs of the discs themselves) is somehow reasonable?

like i said, i agree with you about most of your points..however 1) thanks to the beauty of avc/mp4

vc1 compression, a GOOD 1080p rip can fit in 9gigs...(well at least it seems that way), so i could

'potentially' store about, what around 90-100 movies? which i do have (although most are downloads, or HD-DVD's that i own)..

i don't know if you read my earlier problem, but i am inundated with thousands of movies, dvds,

burned discs, etc..... there's no way that even buying a bd-rom drive, and bd blanks will solve

that.... the media extender is cheap, and hard disk space is getting cheap, i hope in the next

few years, i will be able to get a 10 Terabyte drive for just as cheap..

I used to be in the same camp. I built several crazy HTPCs and had grand designs of a media center with all my DVDs ripped and stored. Then I realized how much easier it was to put in the da*n disc and press play. And then I realized that all my tweaking and other nonsense gave me image quality that was about on par with high-end DVD players that cost as much as my HTPC. I can't believe how much I used to obsess over ffdshow settings. F**king Lanczos vs. bicubic scaling. Jesus Christ.

i'm not worried about settings and such, but the access.. it's impossible for me to dig through all

my movies/videos/music.... i was about ready to give up, this is a good compromise (to me), of

course most people don't have as much, so it wouldn't be a problem for them..

Geeks tend to geek out and do things for the sake of doing them and not because they really make sense. Only nerds care about this s*it. DRM and media server friendliness have had zero effect on Blu-ray's adoption and will have zero effect on its future. 99.999% of consumers just don't care.

again, i agree with, look how long the encryption on DVD's lasted (not very)...

and by the way, the encryption on most downloadable formats is much harder to crack

(stupid amazon unbox!!!!) WMV's, what a pain..

the only thing is, once storage gets smaller/cheaper, why not have a small setup like

this to store all your movies... i never thought people wanted their entire music collection

on 80/120 gigs drives to carry with them, boy was i wrong about that!

jay has made some convincing arguments, and a lot of good points,

i may revisit them later...

but for me, blu-ray is officially DEAD... i will NEVER support the format,

i'm just going the digital route, and buying the western digital media extender

(blatant plug : http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=572 )

.... at first i wanted a new media pc... but this does everything i want (i want it to be

a wired solution - NOT wireless)... it does 1080p through HDMI , supports basically every

video format i need, and is completely extendable, because if you need more space,

you can add a new USB hard drive...... i just got a 1T drive for very cheap >$100 today..

[yes there are other media extenders, ie xbox360/ps3/other hardware manufacturers etc,

but i found this one to be the easiest to use and price/performance wise also]

i have found my solution for now, i will just keep archiving my movies on these hard drives,

and i will never have to mess around with physical media again (i hope).....

in fact, i'm buying one for my parents also (even though i helped them get a SAMSUNG

blu-ray player)........

no, it doesn't solve every issue i have, and yes you have to *AHEM* download, or buy

the originals from somewhere, but with this solution.. i can safely say,

I WILL NEVER GIVE INTO SUPPORTING THE BLURAY format, or PLAYER from ANY COMPANY,

ESPECIALLY ##$&#*($&*(#&$*(#&$ SONY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOOD BYE, AND GOOD RIDDANCE, and hopefully this format will die the quick painful death

it deserves..

there are plenty of sale/promotions for people that are patient and wait instead

When did the prequels officially suck?
Time
Vaderisnothayden said:
bkev said:

yea, that whole "ZOMG SPACE IMPREGNATION" thing is probably the worst part of the PT. At least, I think so...

It was awful. It was arrogant and it didn't fit at all. It made the Star wars universe that bit less real.

the star wars universe was never 'real' to begin with in the first place (see lightsaber,

spaceship flying physics, hyperspace, the force, etc, etc, etc)...

this didn't change one bit of that at all, that's like saying because : 'a' was real,

and 'b' was less real, that makes 'a' less real... there's no logic to that statement that a lot

of people are claiming....     when you start off with a untrue statement (ie: your assertion

that star wars was 'real'), and then conjecture the follow up statement is true :(ie : the

virgin birth is 'unreal')... then you can never logically make the claim the first statement

was ever true in the first place...

i still have no idea why people have trouble NOT believing in midichrolians or

anything that lucas comes up with... if you take the first trilogy as canon, or

a closed set of values (logically speaking) .. and you extend it with the values

from the prequel trilogies, it does not NEGATE the original values.... yes, aesthetically

it may bother you, and it may not be your preference, BUT YOU COULD NEVER ARGUE

LOGICALLY that there is a falsehood, or negation of the original values because lucas

left the entire saga as AN OPEN SET of values, that could be extended however he felt

like...

i have no problem with any of the explanations or convolutions that have occured, why?

because everything doesn't have to FIT LOGICALLY for it to 'work' for me... i'm open to

whatever incidents occured and changes were made..yeah han shot first, the first time!

but not after that...to some people that is their reality..... and if its not yours, then ignore it.

you don't like the explanation of the force? then ignore it... lucas is not FORCING YOU to

believe everything he says, its just another explanation..

if you're looking for logical or reasonable CLOSURE (which it seems a lot of you are) to

the series, its mythos, its values, and ideals, you WILL NEVER BE ABLE to reconcile it

with the prequels, because that's a logical fallacy (as i described above)..

It was part of this transformation of Anakin into a messiah figure and making the whole story of Star Wars revolve around him.

again, depending on how you saw the movies, and in which order you saw it,

this may be true.. not an issue.. (logically speaking)

Lucas likes to say how Star Wars is the story of Darth Vader, but we still remember the time when it was the story of Luke Skywalker.

careful how you use the word 'we'.... i know what you're talking about, but not everyone does.

look, i don't mean to be arguing semantics, or reducing arguments to absurdist statements

(this isn't exactly logic theory class)........ but everytime i see : statement p (false) and statement q  (false)-> implies statement p(less false)... it bothers me..

and yes, you can sue me for being a math major.

Lucasfilm is releasing 2, 4 episode compilations and later a full boxset of the first season of clone wars.

Instead of just putting out a complete boxset of all the currently aired episodes, or just waiting to put the rest in the same boxset.

thats good, because as you should appreciate, not everyone liked EVERY episode,

this way they can just pick and choose..

If you can get clone wars for free streamed on Lucasfilm.com and also by less reputable methods while would you pay like 40 bucks for a boxset?

if you can get it for free, you would already have the superior 720p HDTV rips, which

the dvd's will never be able to match, and you wouldn't bother buying the boxset, so

why even make this point?

I may get the set eventually. Still have not seen the Episode where Jeniffer Hale aka Bastilla Shan, voices Aayla Secura.

well they just showed it, and she did a very good job... try it, you'll like it!

Writing and acting are two very different skillsets. Her acting abilities tell nothing of her writing abilities, and it is her writing that will be in the Clone Wars series. Hopefully for the sake of CW fans she is a good writer. Even if she isn't, the chances of her NOT writing another episode are pretty nearly zero, what with her being the great bearded ones daughter and all.

apparently she wrote 'jedi crash' the last episode, and i really liked it,

2009: State of Star Wars
Time
vote_for_palpatine said:

Well folks, where is SW right about now?

We've had the Clone Wars animated movie, which I won't be seeing.

any particular reason why? it's basically an intro to the tv show, and does just that, and

nothing more, it's not meant to compete with the prequels or the OT

There's an impossible to keep track of number of books available, most of which seem to be dreadfully uninteresting.

perhaps to you, but if you actually looked at them, then you could tell if they were interesting or

not, instead of just inexplicably writing them off as 'uninteresting'...how can you know, if you

don't even know what they are about, that doesn't seem to make sense???

There's the TV show - I don't know if it's on the air, and if it is, I don't know which channel has it.

why do you act like you don't know about this? there's threads about this, in this very forum,

and plenty of talk for the last several months about it, its on the  cartoon network, its streamed

from the starwars site, and its on youtube, look it up!

There has been some talk of a 3D presentation and I don't know what the latest news is on that front.

again, do you just not want to know about whats going on? do you only visit this board every few years? there IS news, is just not definitive yet..

I've heard nothing about a Blu-Ray set and I'm not enthused about the idea unless, of course, it's a state of the art Blu-Ray release of the OUT.

the reason you haven't heard about it, is because there is NO NEWS to talk about here..

What's more, I haven't watched the GOUT - or any SW - in so long I can't even remember.

again, because of your own doing, no one's forcing you to watch it

I guess by definition I'm more or less done with SW. That's a little sad to me.

why is it a 'little' sad? you obviously don't care anymore, the 'star wars' fad has run its course for you,

so let it die then????

But it's hard for me to generate enthusiasm for the brand these days.

you already said you were done with it, so why do you need to generate enthausiasm?

confusing????????

If not for discussions here about OT plot points and the shortcomings of post-1998 SW releases (which are, understandably, fewer and further between), I don't think I'd be talking about SW at all, anywhere.

again, if you're done with, why do you even care?

What is your state of SW?

SW IS GOING SUPER STRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i've gotten back into star wars like never before, maybe even bigger when the original came

out in 1977 when i first saw it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE THE CLONE WARS SHOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i haven't played the games yet, but i will someday, and maybe even read a few books..

i've gotten about 20-30 different releases of just the OT in CED/Laserdisc/DVD's, film,

and every format under the sun..

i've seen the 8mm/16mm clips....and seen every kind of restoration imagineable...

i've played around with all kinds of cool image processing techniques that have breathed

new life into the GOUT, and played around with all kinds of high-def stuff...

i'm working on restoring the original 35mm version of star wars and empire, and doing
