the HD versions that are out now, are awesome. yes, there's some
purists like us that want the originals....... but in the many many revisions
that have come out, the originals are not the focus...
If a good quality print showed up under the table, after Lucas and 20th Century Fox both said the original was "lost" and the laserdiscs were "all the had"....they'd look like liars. Rightfully so. The only way they could redeem themselves is show off how amazing they are by releasing an official restored version of all three films...they'd turn into a big "look how amazing we are, this is the best restoration ever, THX, George Lucas is awesome" just like they did in 1997 (albeit with all the crap added on that time).
i have no idea how its going to come out, but i think people should
prepare themselves with lower expectations, its not like we're criterion,
or have access to the equipment, and money needed to really do it right..
George Lucas is avoiding Blu-Ray like the plague right now. I'm not exactly sure why. Well, I am sure why. He's avoiding it so he'll be the last one to jump on board, so everyone will have waited, and everyone has adopted the new format. Then he'll release everything Lucasfilm on Blu-Ray. If that's not what he's waiting for I don't know what.
i'm avoiding blu-ray also.. its a dead format to me..(yes i have a burner),
but still, digital files have all but replaced it for me... i hate the DRM,
i hate SONY, and i hate everything associated with it (and yes, i'm still
a HD-DVD supporter)
Of course, if all they do is ignore it and look the other way....we'll still have a good HD print of it, and can then proceed with the other two films at some point in the future.
well yes, we can hope that we'll something unique, just like the 8mm,
and the 16mm conversions..

theres still plenty of projects going on now.. notice how many HD versions
of the trilogy are out now? i don't see lucasfilm shutting down any of those
releases, or getting worried about the impact on their own future releases.
besides, it's not like there's a rush or anything.. good things take time,
i keep telling people that, and what happens? i get attacked, my personal
life gets attacked, and i get smeared by a lot of the people i thought i
could trust........ i'm funding this, so you don't have to worry about impact
on you... if its get done, great, we've done our part....
all i need is moral support..
and even that is hard to get.

umm, i have 2 prints already : 1 in english (6 reels), and a spanish print (5 reels, i'm missing one)... they're in decent shape, one was in pretty good shape, it just
had a red tint.. [ i also have all 6 reels of 'the empire strikes back' too..
but that can wait, since i like 'star wars' better]...
what donations? i'm funding it..

just to give you guys an idea..
when i first looked around the quotes were
anywhere from $2000 (sd transfer) to $8000 and up..
with most of the price being inbetween for all 6 reels->HD
of course, i didn't tell them it was for a commercial film..
no new car for me this year.. oh well, i have an old one
that works well!!!

And I was afraid that you might be collaborating with someone who would take the prints and use them for his own secretive purposes. (check your PM)
If you find you've hit a wall with this project, please try to pass things on to one of the established masters of the forum. If nothing else, I think your prints will be safe with them.

again, the disappearing act is something i do all the time, so i really
didn't think too much about it...... it's just how i am...
anyways, i just made the big announcement that Adywan on's board
to get this train rolling, and back on track..
i can't promise anything (and i hope that you don't think i promised things
before either)..... but at least you'll know that efforts are underway,
things WILL be happening, and that there WONT BE ANY FINANCIAL issues
to deal with, at least that much i can guarentee.
i've always said that at the beginning, and despite people willing to contribute,
that will just complicate things, and problems will arise..

I don't know if you even read my offer, or are even considering it, or even have the time for it but, as others have said if you're not planning on doing anything with these prints, please either give or sell them to somebody who has the capabilities and/or equipment to properly treat these beauties.
And about my offer, a couple of pages ago I told you that if you'd just scan these prints and in whatever way get the digitized copies to me - since I don't have the needed equipment to scan these prints myself, I'd happily restore them frame by frame if necessary and do everything needed to give SW fans what they've been waiting for for so long. And I'd still give you all credit you deserve for allowing this to happen.

but for the last 2 weeks i've been out almost every night until at least 3am !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the girls 23, and she REALLY knows how to party..
trust me, i'm as baffled as anyone about how this came about,
its a really long, and weird story..
there are some things in life that come along, and you
just have to go for it... (like getting the SW prints)..
this is one chance for me, that i've never had before,
