If Jedi is not time compressed like the first issue laserdisc pan and scan i am very much interested in it.  Is this the white caddy or blue caddy version? Never found out the difference i have the rarer white one and both discs.

here's a short preview of the first 9 minutes,

yeah theres a couple of glitches in the crawl ...

but it looks pretty good:

please leave lots of comments. you won't

ok, finished watching return of the jedi,

i think it came out the best... about 97% was

very clean, and there are a few glitches and

skips, but it's not worth trying to recapture

for those parts..

jedi is good because its not time compressed,

so it sounds and looks right.. the colors are

dull, but that's how it was encoded..

i think i can make one decent version

of empire strikes back... there are glitches

in both versions..

i'll check star wars again, and work on fixing

and encoding them..

Those colors do look interesting. Thanks for transferring this. Is it the same master as the early LDs or the early VHSes?

Also, may I ask how you plan to release it: newsgroups, filesharing, myspleen, etc.?

i actually haven't wached my laserdiscs in awhile,

i guess i'll be doing that soon also..

i'm going to do a basic 2 xvid-avi files for all

of them (i'll combine the 3 part ROTJ, and split

it down to 2 files), and just post them on a filesharing

site, like fileserve.com... i doubt there's much interest,

so making a dvd, putting torrents etc, probably won't be

needed, but anyone can share them if they want..

video i'm putting up on youtube..

link coming shortly..

here you go:

it's about 7minutes long..

yes, the colors are pretty much

the same as the laserdisc, the

resolution is lower, but it is better

than VHS...

If you have two copies of the same release, then combining sounds ok.  But if they are different releases (defined by some serial number, the FOX or CBS as the website describes) don't be afraid to release two versions.

ok, watched them both. they are identical.

however, due to skips and other issues, i'm still going to take the

best versions to form one complete one that is better than each

single one...

i haven't checked out empire yet... that's up next.

OFFICIAL: Library of Congress had original prints replaced with 1997 SE
Time

well, i actually have NO problem with Lucas, or what he's doing.

yeah, it's really not making sense, and seems detrimental. but hey,

he's the one that created the movies in the first place, and that's

his prerogative.

anyways, as mentioned many times before. if he had given good

copies of the prints or restored it properly.this site would't be here.

we would't be discussing this. (probably be over at theforce.net ha!).

and i wouldn't have met many people online.

i say give MORE power to Lucas, it's gives us fans more resolve,

and incentive to just get this thing done on our own. i'm sure

at some point people will donate prints that are worth saving.

that's what i'll do with mine, if i can figure out if they want them.

they're pretty beat up, but hey.. it's better than nothing!

Idea: 35mm Transfer - make a preservation project from it?
Time

I just bought a 35mm clip of Star Wars(1977) on ebay that is currently being shipped to me.  It stated it was only a couple minutes long and featured the robots.  This sounds to me like the desert scene.

When it arrives I was thinking of making a diy slide copier and using my 8mp digital camera to capture each frame.  I guess it would take a long time to capture the frames this way but if it's under 2 minutes I think it's achievable even if it takes a couple weeks. Does anybody have any thoughts, ideas, or advice about this idea?

If it seems to be in pristine condition or something I might hold off and think about what to do with it. I imagine it is in rough shape though.

nice.

no thoughts. might want to ask thorr:

Fascinating that ESB reels still get out. Of course, a telecine would be amazing and the best version ever, but, as said by others, it is easier said than done. Anyone here thinking of seriously picking up those ESB reels for sale now?

take a guess!
