Pan & Scan O-OT Project (Released)
Time

If yours are "Extended Play" like the photos, I suppose that means time-compressed for the first two movies.
Would be interesting to find out if they have exactly the same frame count as the time-compressed CED had...

i can't do an accurate frame count.

there are too many skips with the CED versions.

research says they came from the same masters.

Which laserdiscs you got?
Catalog numbers?

i don't have them with me currently.

so i'm not sure.

however looking at lddb,

for these pan and scan ones:

================================

star wars

usa, ntsc

------------

the empire strikes back

usa, ntsc

--------------

return of the jedi

usa, ntsc

-------------

i will make sure about the exact

versions, once i get my disks back.

i only have the files with me.

I'm glad to have the Star Wars transfer. I've got to learn more about this but even a washed out, undetailed print has elements which are pleasingly life-like to the eye, which some types of filtering seem to suck out.

good observation.

yeah some parts look better

than recent versions.

if you want a slightly better looking

version with less glitches, i have the

fullscreen pan and scan laserdisc versions

tranferred also.

i have this laserdisc also, but have not ripped it either..

Do you have a DVD recorder by chance? I'd really love to get my hands on a rip of the Japanese laserdisc, and finding someone with it is hard enough :P
If you have one, would you be willing to record it for me? (If you use 1-hour mode you could do one side per disc and it would be excellent quality)

yes,
i have a capture card, and dvd-burner,
i'm still messing around with capturing video from all the OT laserdiscs
right now..

i'll keep you posted on when i can get to this....

its a set of huge mpegs,

Y'know, it would also be interesting if a single example of a short sequence was included using each one of your various sources, one-after-the-other...to compare the differences of a scene in an 'at-a-glance' way.

Say for instance, the opening shot of the Stardestroyer/Blockade Runner just up to somewhere where we first see C3PO and R2.

hmm... maybe..

but that would be star wars : variations

i'll see what i can do with this one first!

This indeed sounds very interesting.  Will it simply be telling the story while switching formats, or will it show alternate versions, like Han shoots first/Greedo shoots first?

it's a combination of the above..

however, i'm using mostly the

standard shots..and the

deleted shots are the newer

alternate releases.

This seems intriguing, but I'm confused (although maybe it seems intriguing because I'm confused). What's the general objective of this edit? I would like to know more.

i had all these shots lying around,

and it's basically a video editting exercise.

it's like the reverse of 'deleted magic'.. instead

of deconstructing star wars, i'm rebuilding it.

16mm version puggo

----------------------

Vinyl version

radio drama

-----------------------

CED

-----------------------

bootleg 35mm- widescreen

basically, its different versions combined

into one story that includes a lot of different

sources to show the evolution of star wars...

===========================================

i've set some baselines to make combining the sources

easier..

----

audio - converted to stereo

video - 720x480, cropping,scaling and letterboxing

formats - avi for all non-hd content, mkv for hd
