Duplicate header error when clicking on link
Time

it seems the broken link error that's

impacting other people is browser based issues

and interpretations.

using :

------------------------------------

ie 6 - old links works

ie 7 - old links works

ie 8 - old links works

chrome - ver 10-16 doesn't work

firefox - not sure

opera - not sure

i think newer browsers are a little

more strict in the way they interpret

file links and headers.. so if doesn't work,

try another browser.

the only other issue, is that some browsers

break threads due to formatting.

i can't read this thread:

The job rant thread-unemployment, bad jobs and everything in between
Time

captainsolo said:

How's everybody doing in this regard? Hopefully better.

That said, I'm not. I've been doing training for an at-home call servicing opportunity and been jerked around for the past three months. Studied, lost sleep, paid money I didn't need to, got equipment and am just being thrown into a mess of stuff.

Just insane. On top of this it really looks like my mom is about to be fired from her job. (It's been this way for over a year, constant threat of being fired/let go.) What the heck happened to the job market to make things so unbelievably cutthroat and dire? I know the economy is beyond terrible, I know everything tanked but to have everything become so completely cutthroat and impartial is insane.

sorry to hear about that.

yeah, my brother hasn't been working for the last

few months either. but its more of his own personal

choice also..

So I've started doing a whole other batch of job applications (my daily thing) while on the phone and chat with this stupid servicing company (who never answers anything). I'm even to the point of writing some more crazy last-ditch letters to places/people who I really admire in the hopes that I might get some kind of response. (not that I ever really do)

well, you have to keep trying.

i'm in a similar situation. so i know the feeling.

sometimes it seems like nothing is working.

but you have to keep trying or you'll never know.

I am just done with this whole thing. I did the film school thing and got chewed up by it. I know unemployment is what happens when you get out, but at this point I'm still just drifting about alone in the ocean.

How does one actually enjoy any part of being unemployed? I'm going nuts being stuck in one place with nothing to do.

well, you need to start working on all those

projects you used to wish you had time for.

that, or start keeping yourself busy and learn

new things to do.

i used to go back and forth with photography.

and lately, i hadn't done in quite awhile.

i met a girl that was a model, and of course,

my enjoyment of photography came back,

and we have a lot of fun doing shoots, and

other projects.

try something new, while you have the time.

when you get busy again, you might not have

the chance.

catch up on all those books you haven't read,

watch all those unwatched movies, catch up

on tv shows.. write a blog, draw some pictures,

paint, make some music... really, if you had any

hobbies before go back to them, or look into

new ones.. not everything is expensive or

requires money.

good luck.

I find this kinda depressing actually. Sure it sounds nice, but displays will get better and better and finally kill of theatrical distribution.

I don't think there is any reason to worry about that. Right now we can watch newly released movies off the internet if we want. That hasn't killed theatrical distribution. The trend of technology should force theaters to make the movie-going experience more meaningful. But it will always have the advantage of being a huge screen and an experience shared by a roomful of strange people :p

agreed... people will always go to movies.

just for the social experience. not necessarily

to view great art.

Most people aren't going to know or care about scope films. When I really really want to enjoy something in scope, I'll go out and buy a projector and fit an anamorphic lens. For cheaper than this thing.

Had to wiki "scope films." Sounds like they're already done for. Regardless of format, won't people care about films that were good? Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here...

honestly, how many films be shot

in scope format? and how many

people have movies in that format?

there's not a whole lot of them...

When was the last time you even saw a great scope movie? Everything is shot in such a flat style nowadays that even scope has become lifeless. (Never thought I'd be saying that.)

I agree about the lifelessness, but isn't that a different topic?

Your concerns remind me of camera enthusiasts who worry about the innovations being made for point-and-shoots which feature very long zooms and focus that is completely adjustable in post-processing. They worry that these and other emerging features will at least crowd out the (d)slr market, if not make it obsolete. Technology can't be stopped, but I don't think any point-and-shoot or big wide screen (or CGI) is going to hurt substantive creations unless creators let it happen by failing to create worthwhile works.

agreed.

good comments..

What's with the black area on the upper right corner of the first frame? Surely that's not what the actual frame looks like, it's covering picture information that shows up in the GOUT.

yeah, don't worry about that.

these are just test shots, taken with

a camera that didn't have manual focus,

and we were doing quick captures..

we'll have much better scans and shots

a little bit later on. again these are just

reference shots to show the colors of the scenes.

not the quality or detail, which will be higher of course.

also, note in the later shots, a lot of those

areas are cropped off. i'll post that comparison

next.

Cropping the Original Trilogy : 35mm vs dvd (gout)

Nice pics -1. The cropping seems fairly consitant throughout (obviously with shot-by-shot ajustments for keeping the action center).

yeah, this is the standard practice.

about overscan:

----------------

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overscan

--------------------------------------------------

----

There is no hard technical specification for overscan amounts for the low definition formats. Some say 5%, some say 10%, and the figure can be doubled for title safe, which needs more margin compared to action safe. The overscan amounts are specified for the high definition formats as specified above.

Different video and broadcast television systems require differing amounts of overscan. Most figures serve as recommendations or typical summaries, as the nature of overscan is to overcome a variable limitation in older technologies such as cathode ray tubes.

However the European Broadcasting Unionhas safe area recommendations regarding Television Production for 16:9 Widescreen.[7]

The official BBC suggestions[8] actually say 3.5% / 5% per side (see p21, p19). The following is a summary:

I'm surprised how much more information there is on the sides of the 35mm scan compared to the GOUT shots. Just when you thought you've seen all there is to see of Star Wars...

you lose 5%-15% or more, due to the cropping in the theater.

and also due to the cropping for home versions.

viewing at home, and in the theater is very different.

there's a whole thread of cropping and images here:

and for movies:

2.39:1

For a correct presentation, the area within the red rectangle (projector aperture of 0.825" by 0.690") is projected with a 2x horizontal unsqueeze onto a 2.39:1 sized screen.

Examples: Star Wars, October Sky.

-1 wasn't the whole point of the blog so that this kind of stuff would be privatized and it could not be traced back to you?  Your posting all sorts of images recently goes against your previous habit of deleting ALL YOUR POSTS.

there are tons of scans of frames.

it's not really an issue.

if people need references. like moth3r requested this.

here it is.

 i doubt too many people

will buy tv's like this.

i don't think it's that big of an issue.

you're right, more people buy projectors, which

can also do this. but for people like me that use

it as a computer monitor, or leave it on all day,

it's better to have a dedictated tv.
