Info: cleaning up dirty frames for scenes

Ha. No I was talking about a 576p clip. Well I could show a few of the stills but it wouldn't demonstrate much in the way of the stabilization.

Perhaps I can just tell the process how I did it. I flipped it and then used something called centertracker to focus on the sprockets on the side and then it feeds adjustment parameters to avisynth. It works very well and since it is only looking at the holes there is never a chance that it will lock onto "bad" motion in different scenes.

well in that case, go ahead then.

put it up on vimeo. you have them

all password protected anyways.

yeah, i would like to see it to.

Star Wars Colortiming & Cinematography (was What changes was done to STAR WARS in '93?)
Time

Baronlando said:

I used to use that quote when arguing at TFN, didn't matter. Those mooks all thought they understood cinematography better than American Cinematographer. Annoying, but it's a good indicator of the psycho loyalty LFL enjoys. It's like having a whole marketing spin team that works for free.

i thought this was interesting:

Overall, the clarity of the images in all three films is astounding. Though detrimental to the first film’s visual scheme, the increased sharpness reveals new details in production design and wardrobe. A restoration team at Lowry Digital spent three months working with more than 600 Power Mac G5s (making up more than 378 terabytes of space) to clean the original films and create pristine digital masters. The color transfers for The Empire Strikes Backand Return of the Jedi are nowhere near as problematic as the one for Star Wars;although contrast has been slightly increased in both films, the differences are not nearly as stark. Both Empire and Jedi look fantastic, and some color-correction tweaks have improved previously lackluster visual-effects moments, such as Luke Skywalker’s fight with the Rancor in Jedi. The new color-correction of this scene has cleaned up the composite shots, matching the live-action photography with the stop-motion-animated monster much more precisely, rendering a more effective sequence.

----------------------

i tend to agree with this description.

anyways, it took them 3 months with 378T of space.

we're working on 6 months now with about 8-10T of space.

of course, it's also 1-2 people vs a team. and of course our

results will be somewhat comparable but not quite as detailed.

still, a good read.

Making our own 35mm preservation--my crazy proposal

That looks really good actually. (ignoring the damage to the frame and the redness)
Are there any more 720p clips out there?

edit: that is any more besides the "trailer"

i'll be posting selected scenes from this 11 minute reel

periodically. but it's mostly examples of the cleaning

and recoloring process tests.

our lpp version doesn't need too many color tweaks,

just cleanup.

this is just for a behind the scenes look at it.

Are those the actual leader? Parts of them match PuggoGrande:

The green '3' and the b/w 10 and even the hand drawn arrow. Good to know that even that part is a direct duplicate, gives us another way to track variations.

i'm not sure.. it's what was on the partial reel.

it's possible it might have been, but how come it

hasn't aged?

ok,

here's an interesting test..

the very FIRST footage of any of the frames,

and scene from our RED english test partial reel.

the trash compactor scene in all its glorious

untouched red, downsampled to 720p:

=================================

PASSWORD : OT

(don't mind the early sound synchronizing either!)

this is very first proof of concept that we did

to see if we could any video at all generated..

we won't be using this footage though.

this is just to give you an idea of what

the poorest quality of red faded sources

we have. we'll go through some of the

cleanup and correction after this.

Idea & Info: Star Wars Deleted Scenes - Reincorporated?

theyre definitely getting there. i would be keen to see the biggs scenes reintroduced, as well as red leader's spiel about anakin, and this is definitly starting to seem feasible.

have you guys had a chance to clean up the endor bunker scene? are they all as equally damaged or are some less achievable?

i'm sure they could be cleaned up.

i'm only interested in the star wars deleted scenes though.

The "fixed" frames look as if someone took a really badly compressed video (and I mean as compressed having a 2hrs long 1080p film compressed to less than 1GB) and sharpened the hell out of it. This kind of thing actually seems to affect most of the samples you post -1. What's up with that?

we need to keep the full uncompressed images,

and videos under wraps for now..

besides even that Greedo scene is 9Gigs or something HUGE.

there's no way i could post (or would even try) just for that.

when the final version is released, there won't be any of

those issues with it.

i've watched many versions of these clips at full resolution,

and they look great.

all these tests, down sampled versions, are more about

the process, and not indicative of anything final of course.

just wanted to give some behind the scenes testing, while

we move towards the final stages hopefully.

The Sega Saturn controller was phenomenal. It fit solidly in your hands, had a 6-button fighter configuration plus additional bumpers for games that needed them.

You really need to use one to experience the difference. I didn't really pay much attention to it until my friend mentioned how much better it was, but once I did - man did I adore it! Unfortunately the 3D pad didn't fare as well; it's awkward as heck. The DreamCast is okay, but I tend to go crooked with the analog stick when holding forward so I tend to prefer situations like with the Gamecube where the edges are solid instead of rounded and there are 9 or so points I can easily stop at without it sliding over.

i've hated EVERY controller made out there,

with 2 exceptions, the atari 2600 joystick,

and the sega genesis 6 button controller.

the saturn one was too hard.

i LOVE any kind of actual joystick controller,

and to this day still use the sega saturn arcade stick.

(even for pcs/other consoles) with adapters.

i have a custom arcade joystick for the xbox 360,

and i also have an x-arcade stick for pc and other systems.

i have trackballs, and spinners for the pc to use with MAME

(arcade emulation) for playing all those tricky games that

need those. i don't own any steering wheels though,

but racing games are one of my favorites.

i grew up in arcades, until they died out, and so i am used

to real arcade controllers. i HATE touch screens, touch screen

games, any kind of games on phones (unless you can use

buttons). and i own a few portable systems, the revised

lcd gameboy (gave it away), the sega nomad (gave it away),

just got a sega game gear, and a color neo geo pocket

(because it has an arcade perfect port of pac-man).

Retro Gaming - a general discussion thread
Time

used to be a bigtime gamer.

started with sega genesis.

then got a saturn. (mostly for vf2/sega rally/daytona)

then reluctantly a PS1, and

afterwards got a newer top loading NES,

SNES, (then got rid of both)..

stopped gaming...

then got an xbox 360 which i play from time to time...

then a ps2, dreamcast (one of my favorites),

and recently someone gave me an original XBOX.

don't play many games anymore, but in 2010 i took

a year 'off', and just played videogames everyday.

and broke a lot of my old records. i hang out at

MARP (mame records), HARP (home records),

and checkout Twin Galaxies from time to time for

advice, records, etc.

i own a standup atari blasteroids arcade game:

------------------------------------------------------------

i play pc games, mostly puzzle types, word games,

but definitely a lot of older ones. i rarely ever get new

games, and don't play shooters, role playing games, or

anything online. although i compete on leaderboards.

i have quite a few xbox live arcade records, and i really

liked microsoft arcade when it was going on.. i have the

world record for pac-man at 7million+ (they fixed a bug

on the arcade version to allow playing past the killscreen),

and i'm working on a million on ms. pac-man (namco fixed

the killscreen bug on that game too).. but that's going to

take awhile.
