...within the prologue of ROTJ, you could establish that much more time had passed, and the rebellion has gained a huge momentum, having recently captured Coruscant.

The Emperor and much of the Imperial fleet has since disappeared - however there are relentless attacks on the capitol by the Imperials.

The Rebel's desperate to hold the City Planet will have committed ALL their resources to holding it (all the eggs are in one basket).

The Rebel's discover the Death Star II plans within the city (opening scenes) - and thus a strike team is forced to chase it down. Meanwhile Luke/Leia etc are on tatooine freeing Han.

The big reveal would be that the EMPEROR is on the Death Star, and he is going to use it as his new seat of Power. He allowed the Rebel's to audaciously capture Coruscant in order to force them into one single location, which he intends to destroy.

Some VERY good ideas here. An opening scene of the discovery of the DSII plans could be done with no known characters......maybe just some grunts working on some circuits.....short out a connection (ala R2D2 in ANH) and stumble onto some holographic plans.......and the opening crawl would have taken care of much of the rest. One would probably need some slight dialogue rejigging here and there to make it work perfectly......but this is a seriously solid idea. Makes it very different from ANH.

  • What is the importance of the forest moon of Coruscant? This is the big one.

I had toyed around with the possibility of moving the Jedi temple to a moon of Coruscant....just to put it in a more remote location, not so much in the city center.....as I've always felt that it should have been more connected to nature, more isolated and monk-like in its emplacement. But it would really depend on how much of the original material from the films one wanted to keep in an edit. People travel to the temple in open top speeders, so this idea wouldn't work....unless you were changing or removing that from your edit and having them arrive in space-going ships instead (the travel time would hardly need to change as a moon is still fairly close). Ultimately I realized that it would be an easier idea to integrate if you simply put the temple in a sort of nature preserve on Coruscant....sort of like Central Park in NY. You could have a central road leading through the park to the temple, and on each side would be fields. One might see Jedi farming their own food.....fields filled with Jedi meditating alone or in ground being led by a master......very reminiscent of old samurai films (the Zatoichi series comes to mind).

But if one wanted, perhaps the now destroyed Jedi temple could have been on a forested moon of Coruscant. It wouldn't necessarily be of huge importance to the Empire, but they might choose to desecrate the temple further by building the shield generator there to protect the main planet.

The Hobbit Rankin/Bass Animated Film..... (Released)
Time

Sorry all, I didn't get a notification of new posts...so my reply is a bit late.

I will not be doing an exact replica of the VHS look. This isn't a complete restoration. Things will be changed...some of the DVD color adjustments, while probably toned down, might be left in my finished version. It's a case much like the SW SE's from '97.....many changes were too big or in your face for people to like them, but some of the less noticeable clean up work was very nice. I might leave in a few things that I feel improve the film, but I will definitely be toning down the neon colors that have been added in. This was a very earth-tone/sepia colored film when I was a child, and now it looks like a brightly colored circus poster....I definitely lean more towards the original look, but would like to find some form of middle(ish) ground.

Have you considered the Video8 release (8mm tape) as a slightly better quality tape-alternative to Beta/VHS?

The DVD has better quality, they only jacked the colors and added some in places where there weren't any before. Color correction of the DVD source will yield the sharpest image I can get at this time.....a shame they never bothered releasing it on Blu Ray.

This ebay item is no longer available. I just checked on it and it says the seller stopped the auction because the item is no longer available. Hopefully one of our preservers here got this item!

As far as I know....there MAY have been some sort of last minute attempt to get this transferred before final sale, but there was apparently a buyer, and it was a local (to the seller) collector, not someone from here. The buyer was apparently open to allowing this item to be transferred before it was sold into his possession....but whether this happens or not.......

This is what we've been told.

Edit: Just noticed that some of the blasters and lightsabers seem different from the original, but its been years since I last watched AOTC so is this something new as well?

That's just the blanket color pass making other things look different. There would be a lot more attention to smaller details if this was a final pass.

Alas, a faded 16mm print was on Ebay recently.

A Betamax copy might be a good source for the soundtrack though.

Probably no better way around this than to downgrade the new added colors from the DVD (unless it gets the Blu treatment anytime soon......which seems unlikely as the Peter Jackson abominations would have been perfect cross selling aids for something like this...and they didn't do it), and take the audio from the VHS. So far with everything that's been made available, this is still my best option.

Bringing this off-topic discussion sort of full circle, one of the OT surprises I would love to see preserved is Yoda being the little green dude Luke meets on Dagobah. Some people (Ady included) believe this was never intended to be a surprise, due to the promo material ruining it ahead of the film's release, but I think it absolutely was intended to be a surprise for the viewer and just happened to be ruined by shoddy and over-enthusiastic marketing. Nothing in the scene up until the "I cannot train him" conveys to us it's Yoda, so a fresh viewer is just as clueless as Luke is until that point.

Even though the "reveal" happens soon after we meet him, I still disagree that it isn't worth preserving. I was born in 1984, and first saw it on tv without anything to ruin it, and it was a great moment for me, personally. Whether removing Yoda, or hiding his identity in the Prequels is even possible is another matter entirely. There probably wouldn't even be a film left with all that Ady's going to have to cut anyway :)

The marketing material may have shown Yoda....the image of Yoda, as a "New Alien from the SW sequel!".....but did it ever specifically NAME him as Yoda before the film was released?

And even if it did, that only matters for a very specific (and long past) period of time. All these years later one definitely could decide to make the reveal a surprise. Many people seem to have interpreted it as such already.

While on this topic, I'd even say Padme should not be seen giving birth to the twins in ROTS:R. I think it was intended to be another surprise in ROTJ when we find out Luke has a sister (not as big of a bombshell as Vader to Luke in ESB, but a surprise nonetheless). If we see the birth of twins, even if their names weren't given, by ANH the audience will know who Luke is and likely predict who that sibling is early on - not good.

Yeah, I completely agree with this.....I would very much like to see many of the OT surprises preserved in the PT.

Personally I think there's enough of a chance that this is a glitch...a missed shot.....that i don't really count it as a suggestion. I'm a very detail oriented person. I tend to pick apart little things and have probably been the cause of a few eye rolls myself. I think Ronster goes even further (and sometimes too far) than I do. So that'll count for something when I say that, in this instance, I don't see it as a problem. Ady could very well have missed that shot, and Ronster catching it might just mean that ESB:R will be that much more consistent. It wasn't a suggestion for something new that's not being worked on.

Temuera totally phone his performance in. It has no menace in it whatsoever. Revealing Boba in AOTC was also one of the bigger failures of the PT in terms of how it affects/changes the OT. One can pretty safely assume that a lot of this is going to be altered in Revisited.

I wonder what other creations might be made for Revisited - I'm sure there are some ideas.

Brash has been working with us for quite a few months already and has turned out a large number of parts for various models/sets over that time. I'm sure he could give you a more detailed run-down on the different pieces...

Another positive about the delay is that Ady will probably have seen Episode 7 by the time he comes to finish ROTJ:R so while it might not be a major priority for him it would let him know if his edit ideas will create major inconsistencies between his OT edits and the ST.

I believe it was in this thread that Adywan said 7+ won't affect these releases plot-wise - but I could be mis-remembering.

Revisited will indeed be its own canon....and will likely not match up with the sequel or standalone films.

EDIT: Lol, beat me to it 005.

A very open-ended question to Ady.

There are rumours that Disney may make some Obi-wan films set between III and IV. If this is true, and these get made (they could be out within the next 5 years plausibly) would you consider utilising these as part of the REVISITED prequel trilogy?

It would obviously be contrary to any current plans, and I imagine you'd have to drop a current prequel to fit it in. It would however present a very alternative SAGA, if we lose the skywalkers for a whole movie.

I'm hoping for YOJIMBO in space.

I haven't heard anything about any Obi-Wan films (though I am staying as spoiler free as I can about any new SW material), but if they were to make something like that I highly doubt Ady would ever diverge THAT much from the core saga stories. I would not be surprised, however, if he took bits and pieces from something like that (assuming they were released within the same time period he was working on the PT:R) and used them to supplement his work on episodes 1-3.

I don't need to know the whys, but I'd like it to at least be consistent.
In Star Wars, Obi-Wan disappeared because he's a wizard of some kind and that's what happens.
In Jedi, Yoda disappears because the first film established that that's what happens. Anakin doesn't, but he was a bad guy, so maybe he doesn't get the same rewards.... only he does. So it doesn't make sense.
Then the PT made it all even worse and made no effort to explain this weird thing that happens twice for no reason except maybe to avoid having an old man sliced in half on screen in an adventure for all ages.
So, I say all Jedi who die but don't disappear can't come back or contact the living. All who come back as telepathic ghost people should also disappear when they die.
Again, I don't need to know the whys, I'd just like consistency.
KnowwhatImean?

yeah, I don't disagree with that....as long as it's left vague and not given a silly explanation ala George.

Any ideas on how Revisited will handle Jedi death and force ghost tomfoolery?
Do all Jedis disappear and become ghosts when they die? Only "Jedi Masters"? Only Obi-Wan and Yoda?
Will Any more sense be made of it all?

Personally I think no explanation is a better explanation. Some can, some can't.....I don't need to know why.
