Looks very nice, could you perhaps post some screen-caps of these shots? http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-Trilogy-Original-Theatrical-Versions-2006-DVD-Flaw-List/post/462787/#TopicPost462787

I'm curious if these French LD's have the same color issues. Also, could you check the asteroid chase in Empire, I'm interested to know if it have the blue colored TIE-lasers the '95 PAL-VHS had. Thanks.

Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

About listing the various differences in audio mixes, it was a long time since I last listened to it but the Mono mix really is chock-full of subtle differences to the Dolby Stereo tracks, one difference I remember, is the added soundeffects of static distortion of Leia's hologram in the garage.

You also have the added soundeffects of the X-wings "Lock S-foils in attack position".

And you also have the whining sound of Red Leader's ship (I think that is the pilot) before he crashes to his death "Stay there. I just lost my starboard engine".

No idea. All I really could remember was the text touting this as being from the guy who made Star Wars.

Interesting it was re-rated PG when the 2004 reissue got a R. How times have changed!

Yeah, I noticed, it's weird really. So the GP-rating is the early equivalent of PG?

Doing the 704 transfer of the Japanese LD tonight. VNR is turned off, and going through composite cables into the DVD recorder.

Love the sound of that! :)

My theory is that in some instances they don't have a clean music and effects track to work with, and the English voices are being filtered out.

Yeah, that's probably the case.

This just makes you wan't to hear how different the '71 audio mix really was. Damn! maybe someday...

I also discovered that Scrappy Doo is an annoying character in any language. ;)

Thanks for posting that, SilverWook. Haven't seen this in decades myself. :) Was there ever other ones made for the real Director's Cut? (very fitting title Btw) I've only seen this LUH-mylar, it would have been natural to make other variations, with the character of THX on it for example.

The auction also states it's an Advance poster, any ideas?

msycamore about changing the format, I was thinking what's gonna happen to the screens in Italian? Those that read "Radiation overload" or those computer screens.

Nothing, as I am just correcting the wrong aspect ratio on the intro/titles and end titles, there isn't anything wrong with the aspect ratio on the actual main feature, it was just broadcasted in pan & scan, which means that they cropped the picture to fit the 4:3 TV-screen.

Sometimes they simply crop both sides of the picture to fit the 4:3 TV-screen, and sometimes they make it pan & scan, which means that they move the 1.33:1 image inside the 2.35:1 picture, so they have more option to what they want to be in focus, that's why you have a pan inside the frame sometimes as seen here: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/THX-1138-preservations/post/445295/#TopicPost445295

Here's a few wiki articles that describes these different video formats much better than I did:

You should do that set d_j
Lot cheaper than JSC on eBay too, I'll tell ya
Your rendition could easily become the 'best currently available'

You have links to the 3 we would need? on Ebay and LDDB?

He provided the link in that other thread: http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/36787/1130-85/Star-Wars%3A-A-New-Hope-%28FOX%29-%281977%29

sequels mean ESB & ROTJ wearing SWE jackets, mastered by Technidisc in 1993-94
To my knowledge, they didn't suffer any 'incredible shrinking ratio' like ANH, so maybe they were never remastered, or retelecine or whatever.
It's possible they're made from same master tape as earlier Pioneer pressing SWE, and presumably JSC, so they'd be missing few frames between reels in that case.

On the other hand, if they'd been remastered from '93 telecine they should indclude (nearly) all frames as GOUT, but without THX smear. [This appears to be the case for ANH, at first glance anyway.]
They were cheap enough, so I decided to take the chance and try to answer that question. This is the hypothesis, to prove or disprove...

Interesting, thank you for the info. :) Please post some possible interesting finds on the Empire disc when you get the time to check it.

That was my thought when linkin your thread. ;)

It's still a little mystery though, I don't get it why they suddenly used a different source when silently replacing the earlier flawed pressing? It's very nice however! :)  And sequels... did they have the same issue as SW? or do sequels mean something else in this case?

Ok, I've installed VirtualDub now, and tried out Leonardo's excellent filter suggestions, they make the picture look a little bit softer but it's a worthwhile tradeoff, well done, Leo! if you have further suggestions let them come, I'm a VirtualDub newbie afterall. ;) If not, I think I'm gonna start to render this file soon.
