Star Wars Redemption: Episode 1 (Rendering final cut!) (* lost project *)
Time

Now for my woes....

I edit on Adobe Premiere; have for many moons; but now want to chunk everything Adobe (except after effects)

Why you ask? Because I am now on my THIRD RENDER, because I keep getting an "Error compiling movie" message. I have PLENTY of drive space... I even bought a 500 GB yesterday.... I've rendered to HUFFYuv and Lagarith with the same result.. Now I'm going for a full res, just straight uncompressed AVI, and then I'll re-render in AE... Granted I don't get another error message... If it happens again; I have no clue what to do...

If anyone else knows what I can do; I might not have to start over....Ugh.

Turns out, I now agree with Satanika. I've gone back and removed the extra detail, and just got rid of the grain by itself.

I looked at it on a regular tv, and it was actually way too sharp. Thanks for the heads up.

Things are still going well with the edit. I hope to have some form of an update tonight.

In the meantime, hold on to your sit and spins!

I got a lot done today, and I greet you with grain removal test shots. If you didn't read one of my early posts, I'm attempting to remove grain and add detail to the classic films to help match them up to the prequel HD shots, oh and I will be applying this method to TPM as it was too shot on film, and actually became the grainiest of the films. Crazy. Anyway, here you go!

Before grain removal/Detail enhancement

After grain removal/Detail enhancement

And after...

I'm now an hour into my edit. Feeling pretty good about it so far; and all music is blending beautifully!

New day; new progress report:

I ran some test shots from Ep. 4 to remove grain and add more detail. I was very pleased with what I got. I'll try and post some before an after shots tomorrow to show you guys. Haven't tried any grainy TPM footage yet, but I will at some point.

Now, I've been thinking about ESB, which is later I know, but I'm toying with the idea of adding emote details to you Yoda in ESB and ROTJ. The more I think about this whole trilogy; The CG and Puppet Yoda will really be distracting. Now, typically, I'm a purist when it comes to Frank OZ's work; but when it pertains to this series; I feel I need to try to create a more seamless project.

Progress report:

I've cut about 22 minutes of my movie so far... I like what it's looking like at the moment, but I have yet to go from prequel to classic trilogy footage yet. I'm still concerned the music won't blend well... But we'll see.

As it stands, it really begins like Anti's Prologue as I've said before, but I did go ahead and splice things a little differently. You will not see Vader until he boards the Tantive IV, but you hear A LOT of talk of Vader before then. You're also clueless that Darth is a Sith title and not just this Obi-Wan's Apprentice's name... Which really aids Obi-Wan's talk with Luke.

I'll also be dabbling with uprezzing software to MAYBE produce new unique shots to give it a fresh look. Especially when Lucas needlessly has his massive wide shots. This is also evident in the ep. 4 so this is not just a problem with me in  the prequels. Of course if it looks like crap, I'll scrap the uprezz and leave it as it is framed. Oh, and I'll be applying a new plug in called Neat Video that I bought a few months ago... It's the greates grain remover out there, and it actually adds good detail to the shot. I may apply this to the Classic footage to help clean it up to help match it up even more with prequel shots.

Ok, that's all I'm saying at this point. And I will not spoil ALL my surprises to you fine feathered folk...

I'll have more, when I have more.

hey mrbenja0618

are you going to post your first edit, or are you just going to post this new one?

ps. is the Prologue edit out?

I'm honestly not sure about releasing it. I have the DVD made and the whole nine yards, but after I had this new inspiration it made the old one seem poorly executed. I'm not saying no; just saying I want to think about it.

As far as Anti-Matter's Prologue; no, it's not out yet. However, if you go to his site, you can view his progress, in fact he has two screeners of edited footage available for download over there. I must say I'm very very partial to the first screener; and I really like how he did his intro.... Like I told someone else; I don't want to spoil it; so please go check it out.

Now, as far as my edit; I'm up for any suggestions. Thanks for the interest Kongerne!

I know of a few of these style edits going down since the Reborn project was dropped. This was a edit I was seriously anticipating as I know many others were as well.

YES, I had a cut I was already working on, and I even completed it. It was ready for the test audience which consisted of my wife and dog…Then I came across Anti-matter’s Prologue from Digital Fanedits, and fell in love with his vision like a frog loves Skittles. (You don’t know; frogs may love Skittles. DON’T JUDGE ME!) This revelation caused me to completely rethink my edit.

So, let this be my proclamation/announcement/village idiot stutter, that I hereby restart my Star Wars: Redemption edit.

As it says above this will be a trilogy. ANH, ESB, and ROTJ will pretty much stay intact with the prequels serving as flashbacks as usual. As it stands, I’ll begin the film with the same footage as Anti’s Prologue; but it may change after that fact. Check the thread for updates.

Oh, and as for the '09 date. Well, you guys know how that goes. I will do my best to get this done ASAP. I MAY use Anti’s Prologue as a source for prequels as his will be JarJar free, and I do NOT have the patience or the anti-depressants to make it through that ordeal. May angels dance on your belly for that task, Anti. If I go this route, then I will be playing the waiting game for the edit to release. But my anticipation to begin is very high, so we’ll see how long I can wait…Doh, it’s gone. I might be starting tonight.

I’ll be back soon with a more specific and ACTUAL outline for the project. Just let me get through Christmas, and New Years, and my wife’s birthday!

P.S. If someone is using the “Redemption” title for their Star Wars edit; PLEASE alert me to this, and I will change mine. The title is just a way to identify THIS edit.

Star Wars: A New Hope (Completed)

I've finished editing, and I'm still looking for the best output solution for the film. I've actually cut it down a bit below 3 hours, so that's been helpful.

I wanted to use alternate music cuts, but I could never learn how to separate the audio to play around with.

If ANYONE would like to sit me down and show me how to do this step by step, I would greatly appreciate it. It may inspire me to go over this one more time just for sake of the music.

Going through my 2nd phase of editing. My main hiccup is the one infodroid warned me about. I'm using the music that is already on the films, because I can't deal with even the minor bleed through of the old music.

The problem with the first edit, is the music was blending very well between films. However, I think I may have finally found a remedy for that problem during this edit.

Hope to have this done pretty soon.
