Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)

Hi,

I am the old user "Trooperman". I have absolutely no problem with "Shroud of the Dark Side (2007) Workprint" being distributed wherever you want. It is clear at this point that it will never be completed, because I have moved onto other things (like a dystopia film this summer all my own-see Off Topic).

I would love to talk more about my new project with you if you want, or answer any questions that you have. It's good to be back! And again, feel free to distribute my edit-I have a dual layer version that I can upload to youtube if nobody else does, but I don't know what the policy is...they may take it down pretty quickly.

If you upload to be streamed, i would suggest vimeo... Only be sure to speed the whole film up a frame so that copywrite detector won't catch it.

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

I had an idea for phantom menace that I haven't seen done yet exactly the way I was thinking. It isn't really very radical it's just an omision. I've seen edits that cut out part of these ideas but not completely, and in my opinion it only works if the idea is totally there or totally removed.

The whole Jar-Jar being banished and then the gungans fighting with the naboo alliance thing. What if we skip the whole underwater gungan city thing. Remove the whole gungan and naboo not getting along idea. Have it play it so that jar jar is tagging along because qui gon saved his life as he says. But no mention of jar jar being on bad terms with other gungans. Then later have the queen ask jar jar for his help, but not show the details of her asking what she needs him to do, then later (hopefully soon as having alot of time pass will make this seem unclear) you see the gungan army gathering.

I think this would work because without Jar Jar being on bad terms with the other gungans and without the gungans having animosity with the naboo, there is no longer any need to have a dramatic "coming together" and accepting of both jar jar and the naboo. If everything is already assumed to be fine with them, it's believable that Jar is able to gather the gungans all off camera.

I've seen edits that do part of this. But in my opinion only doing half of that makes it more confusing. I think the best way to handle it is to skip all the way over the whole subplot and just have it be assumed that jar jar gathers the gungans off camera.

It may seem vague, but other movies have done things similar without being questioned.

From experience I can tell you (for me anyway) becomes Jar-Jar in the battle. His antics in the battle are horrifying. And yes, we could cut his portions out, but he's in it so much, you wouldn't have a whole lot of footage left.

The idea is cool though, and honestly how George should have done it.

So thrilled to see the rumor of your death was an exaggeration!

Fixed!

Trying to figure out how you "fixed" it. There was nothing wrong with the way I said that.

It was a little joke. The actual quote from Twain is "The report of my death was an exaggeration.", which is what I figured you were parodying.

Ahh. I was referencing Twain. And I stand.....er.....sit corrected.

Hi Guys

thanks for the private messages

I was and I am very busy but this cut is still in my mind

the good point is, as time passes, I own new samples library and I will be able to make an even more realistic additionnal soundtrack

what is the best alternative to youtube ?

So thrilled to see the rumors of your death were greatly exaggerated!

To answer your question, vimeo can work SOMETIMES. But honestly, the best idea I can think of is uploading to a file sharing service and just shooting us the links like over at http://www.megashares.com/ or something like that.

Hope that helps! Great to see you again!

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Yes, i had a 1080p scan from a 35mm source. It was a pretty beat up print and badly faded, but did the trick in the end. I have been able to do all of the cropped shots. All i have heard about the cropping is that George preferred the tight framing done in ANH for the cockpits. How true that rumour is, is anyone's guess.

I sit corrected.

I don't see how this would be possible without 35mm sources.

So glad to see this done.

Well, if you were really prepared to spend eternity on it, you could probably reconstruct the edges from other sources.

I would imagine they came from old HD TV broadcasts of some sort. But maybe that's best left unconfirmed. ;)

There is no way Adywan can save the prequels or restore the magical feeling Star Wars gave me in the original. No point for Adywan to redo the prequels If the next 3 Disney movies are good and do well, maybe they (Disney) should go back and "reboot" the last 3 films and do them right, with a major rewrite and designate the current failure of 3 films to the annals of botched movie history.

The biggest failure was George Lucas. Writing and directing 3 steaming piles of rubbish. The prequels are nothing more than three 2½ hour commercials of how Lucas he can make special effects and cheese more important than conveying a powerful story. Only In hands of a better director, with corrections by a real writer.

The only good thing and worth saving was maul. They would need to reboot but keep a few things similar. Now I think about it....just keep Maul really. And make him live longer.

If the next 3 movies are good, no one will want to hear about the preludes or care about them especially when we'll get Luke, Leia and Han back! Probably even get to see Luke go down on leia this time !

If the next 3 starwars are as bad as the prequels Adywan will have 6 pointless edits to do. No-one fix those lines or edit in better acting. No-one could have performed those lines well. The story was an abomination.

Even Natalie was terrible. Only a master such as Ian MacDiarmid saved his role.

There is no way? Without knowing Adywan's plans I think that's a bit presumptuous. I'm not trying to be rude, but quite frankly I think this is a bit off-putting. If I was putting an enormous amount of work into something for absolutely nothing monetarily speaking, then your statement would be the last thing I would want to read. I don't know you, but coming from a production background I can tell you that statements like that are just horribly dissuasive and the opposite of productive.

I more or less agree with your thoughts on George Lucas.

Also, saying that after the next 3 Disney SW films come no one will care about the prequels is not true for many people including myself. I'm very excited about the new films, but I still want my proper prequel films. Many like myself dreamt about what the Clone Wars looked at when we were kids, and got incredibly excited when we were finally getting to see the official vision, and then been horribly let down when they turned out the way they did. Yes, art is subjective, but these films were bad from a structure point of view, when the classic films (from a structure point of view) were flawless. It was disregard for what was made so far that made me and so many upset.

Anyway, just tossing this out there and seeing what sticks.

Clone Wars Animated Fan Edit (Updated)--Watch 1st Five Minutes

After watching season 6 with the Yoda Arc, the Clone Wars just has to be edited into a trilogy. That Yoda Arc, is everything I loved about Star Wars, and everything that the PT lacked. Our (star wars fans) prequal trilogy is there for the taking in the Clone Wars episodes. Now we simply need an editor out there with the Force guiding them to create the prequel trilogy we have all been longing for.

Nighsisters - Mandalorians - Maul and Savage - Mortis - Yoda: These arcs should provide enough for a trilogy.

Those are good arcs for films, but you still need to insert some form of a Ahsoka introduction.. Maybe a recut of the opening of the Clone Wars movie.

Loved Season 6 with the exception of the Jar Jar episode. I cut it off after he started making out with that other alien queen.... Yoda's story was great. I was kinda expecting more closure for Ahsoka, but not a deal breaker. I guess I can accept she just left never to be seen again.
