If only he could replace Grievous.

Grievous never should have replaced Christopher Lee to begin with.

I'm still amazed that Christopher wanted to be in the movies after he read the script.

Christopher Lee: "You mean to tell me, Dooku gives away the fact that the Sith infiltrated the senate and the Jedi never investigate? Seems legit! Sign me up!

Loving the concept of reordering the film so that it is Darth Vader post-suit that attacks the temple and using the Mcquarrie prototype helmet, but looking down that page at the photos it, the most striking one is the image of the mask without the helmet.

http://www.starwarshelmets.com/2010/SWH_RMQ_Vad10.jpg

I quite like that look actually......somewhat reminiscent of the clone troopers...which would almost make sense.....and then of course Vader changes it over time.

Ditto.

Haha, yeah. The reddish/orange wash just looks fake, really.

I basically just desaturated the reds and yellows, which got rid of the wash. Then I used levels to push the shadows more towards blue, and away from the nasty mix of red and green they were before.

Then I think I generally desaturated the entire scene.

Yeah. That whole film needs to be desaturated. Great work again.

I remember seeing a set photo back in the day of the Federation tank and it seemed to be positioned near some Tatooine props because somehow I started speculating that the droid army would invade there which would explain the strong dislike of droids shown in the Cantina scene of ANH and possibly why there were so many for the Jawas to make a living out of salvaging.

I wonder if it would be possible to have the invasion on the desert world and transfer some of the effects to that location.

It would be dramatic to have the fighters swooping down after the podrace and have Qui-gon running to the ship shielding the boy from blasts only to be stopped by Maul.

Naboo could be the next in world targeted or the first world targeted and Tatooine is raided to flush out the Queen.

It would also explain why the Jedi don't allow Anakin to rescue his mother as she she would be on an occupied planet, on of many come AOTC.

The Geonosian scenes could then become scenes on an occupied Tatooine and Anakin would then help liberate his own people as per his childhood dreams.

Shiiiyyyeetttt, this is genius. You all seeing this? This is genius.

It's a great idea, and probably how the movie should have gone, but not sure how possible it is in a fan edit scenario.

I am still here.  *hangs head in shame at lack of progress*

I have not checked my SW email in a few months; I am sorry for not responding, but glad to see Henry is still around and not too peeved with me. He has done an AWESOME job on this and I hope once we finish these tracks, it will become the new go-to for future fan editors.

There is no contract, haha; the idea was always that anyone could freely take material from anything I have done, just like I have taken ideas from other people.

I have been very busy with a combination of a difficult family issue and my final semester of school (plan to graduate in Dec. of this year if all goes well).

I still have all of the project files on a couple of hard drives though.  Even if I am not able to finish this to technical standard, I can still send the drives to someone who can.

I am still floored by this Episode 7, 8, and 9 news.  If they look like they will be good, that only makes it more imperative that we fix up the prequels as best we can (esp. since Disney may start cracking down on this sort of thing).

Good to see ya back, T-man. Looking forward to more SW, just hope it doesn't cause our little group to dig deeper underground.

Fantastic. It sounds great. :-D

Now then, the real question is, how much NEW dialogue you've recorded for TM - because that's the important stuff. To really get the most out of an edit, we need the entire original script redubbed and then additional rewrites that can either be skilfully placed over similar looking lip movements, or spoken when the camera doesn't show Hayden's face.

When you do release this entire redub, there's a very real danger of you being inundated with "I wrote this new line, can you record it for me?" requests so that it can be tailored for individual edits. Please consider this a pre-emptive apology for the inevitable request from myself :-p

Superb work, my friend.

Well, I actually haven't recorded any new dialogue. I finished recording all original dialogue in mid August and sent it to TM. I've been waiting for an update on new dialogue since. He also planned to release all the original dialogue on their own.

Haha well, I guess I should have seen that coming. It was a lot easier to record during the Summer when I was just working, but now that I'm back at college for the next two months, I'll only be able to record on weekends for the most part. But now worries, I've already put so much work into this that I'm committed to anything to come in the future. And thanks for the compliment!

Just now chiming in. Great to meet you, and don't worry about taking too long. These projects tend to take a great deal of time to get right anyway. Loving your voice work too.

Hey, this is a nice surprise!

Your story about showing your edit to a casual Star Wars fan really got me. I think that kind of fun is why these edits get made. I'm glad that happened! I haven't shown anyone this cut since it's still rough, but I have been tempted. There are lots of friends of mine who utterly hate the Prequels and have never given a fan edit a try. I look forward to blowing some folks away with this one.

I hope everything is going well in the Trooperman household! Glad you're back at it.

Do you know something we don't know? Is t-man back at it? He's been MIA for a good long while. =/

I bet Katie Lucas is pissed.

$4,000,000,000

True, but still...  We all know Lucas was already not hurting for coin.

I think Katie showed great promise with her contributions to The Clone Wars. Kinda wanted to see what she would have done. I always assumed, she would inherit the empire.

But yeah... $4 billion.

According to Adywan he is pulling those films to bits. This isn't an exclusively Adywan thread but I'm really looking forward to those project and hope the Disney thing doesn't get in the way. Hopefully the sequel trilogy will be so good that Ady won't need to touch them.

Disney has NO excuse to make a bad Star Wars movie. They have access to some amazing filmmakers, PIXAR, in my opinion has the best writers and they NEED and SHOULD take advantage of that situation. Now, what would really make me smile is if they announce a reboot of the prequels... Doubt it though.

From Ady on Facebook:

It is a dark time for Star Wars fan editors and will most likely be the end of the revisited saga.........

As you have probably heard , Disney have purchased Lucasfilm and the complete Star Wars franchise. Disney are well known for not taking kindly to anyone touching anything they own. So i expect a cease and desist notice any time soon. Hopefully this will not be the case, but it looms a lot cl

oser than when George owned the franchise. This news couldn't have come at a worse time as i am nowhere near finishing the house or even being able to start the workroom thanks to my finances running out due to extra work i have had to do. With Christmas coming up along with the new arrival of my gorgeous grandson on the 27th October, there is no way i can restart work on ESB:R until after Xmas when i have paid off a few of the bills. I'm now preying that the bad news doesn't come my way at any time in the near future, hopefully never.

So i think we may now need to prepare for some bad news :(

Could be bad and good. Potentially bad for this project, and lets hope nothing happens here, but on the side of the coin, we could be in for some better Star Wars films. If they announce some of the writers at Pixar are involved, I'm all in.

Collaborative Fanediting: An ROTJ Proposition (BACK ON TRACK WITH EMANSWFAN AT THE HELM--SEE POST 1488 OR OP FOR A LINK!)
Time

I'm going to give my thoughts as i go through this.

First off, kudos for taking this on.

1. The opening sequence that you nabbed from that fan-film. I understand why it's there; I assume you want to have some form of an action opening. But I don't know what's going on there. What ship was that? Are we to assume that's a rebel ship Vader blew out of the sky? We need more information. Such as a conversation between officers talking about Vader blasting anything out of the sky that remotely looks like a rebel ship. Again, not sure how to fix that, but it's a confusing opening as is.

2. My other problem is the sequence where the Emperor flies to the Eclipse. It's a scene that isn't needed. It doesn't push the story forward. We already know the Emp. is coming as per Vader; so it's just unnecessary and does nothing really for the story. However the shots of coruscant are quite nice and I would love to see those implemented elsewhere.

3. The Eclipse shot approaching the death star is really really bad. And again not needed. I think original shots work fine by themselves.

4. This isn't a deal breaker for me, but I'm not loving Jabba's new dialogue and mainly for one reason. You make him to be quite stupid, and that's not his character. The reason Luke's mind trick doesn't work on him is because he isn't weak-minded. Just food for thought.

Now what I do like... I like the way you re-edited. I like the rearrangement of scenes.

What I loved? The scene where Vader is connecting to Luke and the whole integration of that deleted scene. Nice work.

Mostly in this first part, you have more good than bad. I'm just listing the things I had issues. But again, there is more going right with this than wrong.

I'll write more as I watch more. Thanks!

MESA BACK!  Just popping in to make a surprise announcement.  I have here the links to Return of the Jedi: The Collaborative Edit!

Alright, so before all fans of this thread get so excited and expect an amazing product, let me offer several disclaimers.  First, I don't have particularly great editing skills, software, or time.  I don't have any abilities with special effects.  This is very rough.  Second, this does not follow the script all that perfectly.  I had to make do with what was available to me.  Third, not all the source material is even of great quality, resulting in scenes with very nice special effects to rather poor material.  I did try to use at least somewhat acceptable, but eh, what can you do?  Fourth, it's not even a truly completed project.  I still have ideas for expanding it (i.e. I think I can come up with an expanded Boba Fett subplot with the available fanfilms out there!).  I will likely expand my ideas as time allows (which it really doesn't these days), and even now I realize I forgot a couple of things, like the Eclipse leaving after dropping off the Emperor at the Death Star.

Let me list the various sources of additional footage, as best as I can recollect:

The basic movie is not the original ROTJ, but rather daneditor's most recent experimental edit, and therefore you will see many changes that were his choices, most of which I approve of.

Official Star Wars sources include a few of the ROTJ deleted scenes from the blu rays, an Episode III deleted scene from the DVD, footage from The Clone Wars, and reused footage from The Empire Strikes Back (some from the SE, assuming that it would be removed from my ideal ESB edit), Star Tours, and Star Tours: The Adventure Continues.

Additional work from folks on this forum include Ronster's Last of the Jedi edit, Johannus's Collaborative Edit trailer, SSWR's ideas, the slightly improved Falcon targeting computer from Adywan's Star Wars: Revisited, and Aalenfae's funeral pyre scene.

Game footage comes from Rebellion, X-wing vs. Tie Fighter, X-wing Alliance, Homeworld 2 with the Warlords mod, and Empire at War/Forces of Corruption, The Force Unleashed II

Fan films include, but are not limited to Mackazie One, The Secret in the Sand, the Tydirium trailers, Star Wars: THX trailer, I.M.P.S.: The Relentless, Broken Allegiance, and various minor projects by individuals toying around with computer animation.  Some material was included by daneditor, and I'm not sure of the source, and I'm probably forgetting some that I should name, but am too lazy to go figure out.

A couple additional footage bits of note: I used a commercial for Curry's as well; and one video was actually supposed to be a battle between Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica (I believe).  The footage was very high quality, so I wanted to put it in there, but I tried to eliminate the most obviously out of place vessels.  The space battle includes new ships popping up without being seen before, and then disappearing, never to be seen again.  *cue sunglasses*

Don't expect any miracles!  But you might have a little fun watching some of the things we had planned make their way (often with alteration to accommodate available footage) into an edit.  And some stuff was never even talked about, such as the opening scene.  But it was fun to put it together, and I hope you get some enjoyment out of watching it.

Password for all four videos is: ROTJ

Part 1 https://vimeo.com/52314923

Part 2 https://vimeo.com/51964928

Part 3 https://vimeo.com/51298368

Part 4 https://vimeo.com/51457067

I'm inching through Part 1. This is very interesting. You could put this in the category of epic workprint kinda like Shroud of the Dark Side. I'll let you know more when I get through it all.
