If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

I’ve never understood why people get so vitriolic in religious discussions. I guess it can somewhat make sense if it’s between multiple religious people with differing views since they all believe that their worldviews come directly from a divine entity, but I don’t understand when certain agnostics/atheists try to mean-spiritedly poke holes in another person’s belief system since it’s inconsequential to them. Why constantly complain about how unbelievable something you believe to be a fiction is? Either way I can’t stand it when debates get ruined by pointless insults being thrown around.

Remember that episode of TNG where Riker was cooking eggs and Pulaski, Data, La Forge, and Warf came in to freeload off of Riker who graciously cooked them omelets. Data didn’t even take a bite, but just rudely picked over it with a disturbed look on his face. Geordi spit the eggs out in front of Riker and made no apology for his despicable and unkind behavior. The doctor also made no attempt to hide her disgust and threw her fork down in front of the first officer with no regard for his feelings. Warf was the only one with any class; he ate every bite and complemented Riker on his cooking. Whether he enjoyed it or not, I do not know but at least he was polite. If I were Riker I wouldn’t have put up with that nonsense and would’ve said, “%&#& shove that #%&% up you G#% damn #%#&%#$ and get the #%&$ out of my quarters.” Just imagine slaving over a small George Forman grill cooking eggs for your so-called friends only to get that type of ungrateful reaction. Maybe I’m just a less patient and less forgiving man than First Officer William Riker.

No, I don’t remember that one.

Ha, I kind of want to create an account there just to make fun of him.

That’d be great. I don’t post on the film section of the Steve Hoffman forum, just in the music section, but there are a couple people calling him out on his unwarranted advertisements of the TN1 work and constant unfounded pessimism.

It’s for the best. It’ll peacefully resolve all of the rule breaking at least for now since I’m sure he’ll come back. Funnily enough I noticed that whoever is using the account has joined the Steve Hoffman forums and has been getting into spats with a couple different users there.

From what I’ve read on the Digital Bits the folks behind the Star Trek restorations are very interested in working on DS9, and understand there is a demand for it, but need to get the funding from the higher ups at CBS. It may be a while before they’re willing to sink more money into the lesser known shows. It’s too bad, as I’ve really fallen in love with the series recently upon revisiting TNG and would love to own all of the series on blu ray some day (or at least TOS, DS9 and TNG).

I’ve always been a fan of TOS and have seen those episodes many times along with the films, but never had an interest in the entirety of the franchise until the past few months.

The TNG HD transfers look lovely on Netflix, I’m planning on getting the blu rays sometime soon. I checked out an episode of DS9 (which I haven’t watched since it was on TV) and yikes… It looks like a VHS tape. I’m not normally too worried about picture quality, but it’s hard to even look at. I knew there was huge demand for DS9 to be remastered on blu ray and I can see why if what Netflix and Amazon have are the most up to date transfers. It makes the GOUT look good.

"Practical Prequels" video. PT practical effects Discussion
Time

I do think that TPM is still a pretty good-looking movie as far as effects go, but AOTC and ROTS just look cheap and ugly. For example, the set in AOTC that Yoda fights Dooku in was real but it still looked fake. Also, a lot of the miniatures for AOTC and ROTS were digitally altered and filled with fake-looking CGI crap. I’ve never felt that the practical effects were completely absent from the PT, but rather that they were over reliant on CGI.

Dentist Horror Stories
Time

Dentist update: I went to my appointment today and the experience was actually very pleasant and easy. I have an excellent dentist and I made it through the filling in less than 20 minutes. That being said, I had to drive through the most horrifying snowy weather I’ve ever experienced in my life. It took four times the usual amount of time it takes to get to the dentist’s office. I’m probably lucky to have made it there and back alive.

Was TFA called Episode VII?
Time

At the bottom of the poster in the writing where all actors/producers are credited, the title is labeled “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. I tend to think of that as making it official. Even on the 2000 VHS set of the SEs that had episode numbers in giant font on the boxes had the films credited as being titled Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi in the credits at the bottom of the case.

I have the same issue with Raiders of the Lost Ark

Now that I ALWAYS call Raiders of the Lost Ark. Anyone can tell by the logo that it’s got something to do with Indiana Jones!

I always call all of them by their title sans Indiana Jones at the beginning. Saying “Indiana Jones And The ________” is pointless. There’s no reason to double the length of a movie’s title just to clarify who the protagonist is.

I saw billboard ads for Raiders, (for a live orchestra presentation) while I was away last weekend, and they’re still calling it that. : /

They’re probably stuck with the publicity materials Lucasfilm gives them though.

I have a t-shirt with the original poster on it and it has the original RAIDERS of the Lost Ark title, with no “Indiana Jones and the”. That being said it doesn’t bother me because they have left the original title in the film intact. When the opening credits come up as Indy is traversing the jungle it still just says “Raiders of the Lost Ark”.
