What Didn't You Like About ROTS?

Oh yeah those were real bad. I was not quite as young as you but still in my youth, and I didn’t get why there were so many attempts at childish and slapstick humour in the film that was supposed to see the demise of the jedi and the fall of Anakin Skywaltzer

This was important to me though because I am not capable of comprehending the fact that people age over time. If he hadn’t have turned into a wrinkly old man in ROTS I would’ve sat there perplexed staring at the screen thinking, “why does he look older in Return of the Jedi than in this movie?”

Movies generally considered "bad" that you like.

I always enjoyed Vegas Vacation. I grew up with it though so that probably effects my opinion a lot more than I would like to think. The idea of a family going to Vegas and falling apart because of drugs, drink, sex, and gambling is a fun idea too since I have personal experiences with that so that also most likely makes me find it funnier than everyone else does.

The worst thing about all of ROTS is how Lucas attempted to tie everything into a neat bow to lead into the original trilogy, almost as though Revenge of the Sith ended just a few minutes before A New Hope began. It is pretty insulting to think that the audience wouldn’t be able to understand that maybe Padme died sometime between the two trilogies when Leia was young, but she had to die on screen so dummies wouldn’t wonder why Natalie Portman wasn’t in the OT. Same thing with Obi Wan chatting with Qui Gon’s ghost because apparently everyone needed to know how Obi Wan learned to be a ghost. I could go on and on.

VC sounds too much like smooth jazz for me to take it seriously. It’s also very solemn, but I’ll admit it gets better towards the end right before the cut to credits. I also hate the stupid shots of people cheering on all the other fake CGI planets.

If you think VC sounds like smooth jazz, you’ve never actually heard any smooth jazz. VC sounds more like those new-agey Peruvian pan pipe bands that play at the mall.

Exactly! I was drawing a blank on what to compare it to and I just threw smooth jazz under the bus.

Even if the structural integrity of the Sulcaco could be maintained and that Ripley’s foot/arm didn’t snap and all the air wasn’t pulled out of the lungs of the humans particularly Newt screaming at the top of her voice, there is the small detail of all that radiation coming out of the vent open to space.
They would all die of cancer.

Remember that scene from that one movie called the Empire Strikes Back when the lead characters get off of the space ship on an asteroid and walk around with the cheap little masks that they give you when a plane cabin depressurizes, and there is no change of gravity whatsoever? That ruined the whole movie for me.

The most pressing question I have though, and I’d really appreciate a definitive statement is, Are the TIE fighters going to vanish? If so, have they already been corrected, or is that yet to be fixed before the release?

Honestly, when you first asked about this, I wasn’t even sure what you were talking about, because in 005’s gallery, the description of the shot doesn’t mention vanishing tie fighters - I had to go in and compare the shots frame-by-frame to see it. But the whole shot’s been recomposited and there seems to be little point to just making the tiny little fighters vanish for two frames without actually replacing the whole shot.

Oh I didn’t realize that. Do you have access to that shot on film to restore the original composite? If the original shot could not be restored for 2.5, making the fighters disappear anyway would still hold the original integrity of the effect to a certain degree. After all, preservation of the original films to the fullest extent possible is what Despecialized is all about. 😉

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

I’d love to see maybe a SW 2.7, just to get all three films on par with each other. Then after that 3.0 can all be released together.

As for the TIE fighters vanishing it actually is a legitimate obsession of mine. It’s my least favorite change in the entire trilogy right behind the Mos Eisley CGI, Greedo shooting first, the Jabba scene, the rock in front of R2D2, the explosion praxis, the added Wampa footage, the CGI windows in Bespin, the added Vader shuttle footage, the added Biggs scene, the new Jabba dance scene, the Sarlacc mouth, the CGI added to Jabba’s palace and the banthas, the ewoks blinking, Vader screaming NOO, the fake smooth jazz ewok music, and Hayden Christiansen’s ghost.

Anyway, any update on the vanishing TIE fighters Harmy? Could we get a comparison video with V1, V2WP, V2.5 and the GOUT?
