Does anybody remember which of the directors for a Disney Star Wars movie said that he hated the Special Editions? If it was Gareth Edwards then that would be positive regarding the OUT’s prospects, because Edwards seemed pretty excited about the 4K print he saw. I can’t find it online, but I remember one of the director’s old forum posts being dug up years ago and he said a bunch of really dramatic stuff about how much he hates the SEs. Does anyone remember?

Edwards was once very outspoken against the revisionism, yes.

Do you think that his emphasis on the 4K print and how great the experience was points toward this 4K print being non-SE?

Bill Hunt is hopeful for theatrical Star Wars in 4K.

Here is the relevant part:

“Speaking of Star Wars, this is a very interesting (and completely unsurprising) revelation: The Little White Lies website has a new interview with director Gareth Edwards in which he reveals that Lucasfilm has a brand new 4K restoration of A New Hope. It’s not clear if this is the original 1977 version or some version of the Special Edition, but in order to even be able to create a 4K Special Edition, you’d have to first scan all the original negative in 4K. And Disney is not the kind of studio that takes a chance of losing their most valuable film assets. So we would bet a lot of money they have an original version in 4K, and probably Empire and Jedi too. When we might see them is a different question.”

Obviously he isn’t speaking from a position of inside knowledge, but I trust him to know what he’s talking about.

I hope I do not need to remind you that is not a thread named “In memory of” or something similar (we have a thread for that purpose). This thread specifically ask how will a certain event impact future of Star Wars. This is no place for pointless gestures. We are supposed to discuss the matter realistically here.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=tact

So I am just supposed to lie for the sake of being “positive” and compassionate? Then maybe threads like this should not be allowed until normal honest discussion is deemed “appropriate” again.

People here are still dealing with their shock and grief. A little sensitivity would not kill you. There are better ways to express your opinion without pouring salt into open wounds.

His goal, as always, was to get a reaction, not to communicate a point.

I remember hearing about that but I’d forgotten the source, so thank you for bringing it up.

The only other rumors we have to go on are John Landis’ story about talking to George and the report that Disney had requested a look at the LoC’s old print of Star Wars '77 (I forget who reported this).

The latter was “Vidiot”, who worked on the DVDs of the movies. I definitely believe him. What purpose they’d have for a digital copy of a Star Wars print is anyone’s guess. It’s more attention than the original versions have been given in a while, but for all we know Lucasfilm is just trying to consolidate all of its movies digitally. The one I’m referring to is a lot more vague than the Vidiot source, who is definitely trustworthy, and admittedly there is no real reason to put much stock in his claim other than that he is a regular on the Steve Hoffman forum and has been confident in the same story for a while. He isn’t the only guy on there that cites a supposed source within Disney/Fox/Lucasfilm regarding Star Wars.

Then there’s always Mike Verta, and who knows where he fits into all of this.

There’s a regular on the Steve Hoffman Forum that has been saying for years based on supposed connections that the OUT was meant to be released in 2015, but was postponed until 2017 because ANH needed more work done. If it were coming from any other forum I wouldn’t put much faith in it, but the regulars on there tend to work in the business and know what they’re talking about.

Casey Affleck is still a predator.

Is he also one ugly motherfucker?

We can’t be endorsing sexual harassment in any degree, especially in 2016.

You really do make light of every issue you touch don’t you? First the holocaust, and now sexual assault?

I’m not making light of anything! Where are people getting this idea from?

Your posts are attempts to turn the subjects into a farce.

Honestly, it’s really offensive.

How is holding celebrities accountable for their actions a farce? How is that offensive to you?

It’s the you make a joke out of sexual assault that offends me. Same with what you do about the holocaust.

I don’t understand how someone can be “in the process” of leaving off-topic. This isn’t like withdrawing from Vietnam.

I’m glad you felt it was a nice thing to say. As a Veteran myself I find this comparison to be in very poor taste. This alone is reason enough for one to consider leaving Frink’s off topic.

If you think that this is a slight against veterans then I don’t know what to tell you. That’s ridiculous.

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

If you mean the COMING SOON thing, that’s been there for years. I was thinking though, that if the presentation has indeed happened and the Disney execs agreed, they’d probably want to announce it on their own terms, so Mike may have had to sign a nondisclosure agreement and may be throwing misdirects at us now 😃

Read his post on the Legacy forums for more info. I think he’s being honest in those posts.

What did he say?
