Does it bother you at all that Wikileaks might be weakening the CIA’s ability to protect us?

Note: The key word is “might,” but still.

This is a major problem with Wikileaks, which I think is definitely a tool of Russia at this point, and it forces us to address the line between whistleblowing and subverting American interests and security.

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

Also, Robert Harris last posted about Star Wars on another forum in December. While he did not say anything specific, one could gather in an indirect way from his post that no OOT restoration is underway, or at least not one that he is aware of.

It’s possible that one could be completed and he simply does not know about it, but I really doubt that would be the case.

That’s my biggest question wrt Making Star Wars’ rumor. If an announcement is right around the corner then how the hell has LFL kept such a tight lid on it? Granted, MSW “can’t reveal their sources, blah, blah, blah,” so who knows.

Question:

When did we first hear word - even if it was just rumor at first - that the OT would finally be hitting dvd in 2004?

I remember the 2006 GOUT announcement. There wasn’t so much as a rumor about it until like the day before IIRC, so no need to refresh my memory there.

Then there’s the blu-ray, when did we first hear about that? My earliest memory is seeing the video of George saying “it’s coming next year” at the convention in 2010.

The question is, how many industry people were talking about those before they were announced.

What was George Lucas's worst decision with the Star Wars franchise?

Attempting to erase the originals from history…that’s a completely different matter though.

That’s simply not true. Never did he attempt to erase them from history. For a while he might have attempted to erase them from the free market, but not history. Empire of Dreams is essentially about the making of the OOT, he released them in 2006, and he included some old, classic documentaries on the making of the OOT as special features.

I’d also add TNG’s Night Terror’s and Identity Crisis. Geordie turning into an upright-walking cat was just too much for that, especially since it was so spooky and mysterious before.

I thought he turned into a chameleon lizard? Using the holodeck to spot the mysterious shadow not cast by any of the landing party is one of the best “aha!” moments in the series.

I seem to remember cat-like eyes. You’re right though that the mystery was great, but I thought the reveal was just way too weird for me.

I remember hearing "The reason why the OOT wasn’t released in 2015 or '16 was because Star Wars needed more work done"
Anyone else remember hearing this? And did anyone find evidence supporting this theory or is this just internet nonsense

That was just people making up bullshit. They were sure it would come out then, so when it didn’t, make up bullshit excuse A. Now it’s just around the corner again…and on and on.

Disney has no plans to release the OOT. None.

Oh, that’s right. I forgot that you work for Disney and know all this shit. Oh wait, you don’t. Maybe you should stop making up bullshit.

What are some of what you guys would consider the most ridiculous episodes of Star Trek? I don’t necessarily mean the worst episodes, I think we’d all probably have similar lists that would no doubt include Spock’s Brain and Code of Honor, but rather those that are just plain silly and generally bizarre. I always think of the TNG episode where Wesley has to close his eyes and press buttons with the Traveller to get the warp zone to open again so Dr. Crusher can get back from the parallel universe. I’d also include Justice, if anything just for the costumes.

I guess you aren’t reading the stories I’ve been posting.

Not all of them, but I’m pretty sure I know what’s in them.

Lol.

I’ve heard it all before. There’s something about an old man born in the '20s who doesn’t have a birth certificate, something about students living out of state, and something about how it costs money to get an ID. I’ve heard it all before and I get the gist of it all. I don’t have time to read a bunch of stuff that I don’t care about. I just don’t think it’s unreasonable to have to show an ID to vote.

I guess you don’t care if old men born in the 1920’s who don’t have a birth certificate can vote. I guess you don’t care if students who live out of state who it would cost too much money to get an ID, can vote. I guess you don’t care if all the other with difficulties getting ID can vote.

I’m not even in favor of those laws, I just don’t think they’re unreasonable.

If you don’t think the ID laws are unreasonable why aren’t you in favor of them?

Yeah, of course. That’s always the answer, right? “You don’t care. You’re mean. You hate people.” No. I was also saying that while having absolutely no important documents makes it a longer process to get a photo ID, it still isn’t impossible, and since you should really have copies of those documents anyway it’d be a good idea for them to get them.

Not all of them, but I’m pretty sure I know what’s in them. I guess it could cost more if somebody had no birth certificate, no social security card or number, no insurance or mail verification of form, or any other type of thing you can show the DMV people to get a license. Those are all things that people should have though so maybe they should get on that. I’m not even worried about voter fraud in person, I think it’s almost negligible, I just don’t think it’s unreasonable for someone to have to show an ID to vote.

4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

I suspect and have heard from knowledgable people (although it’s mostly their speculation too) that the negative was disassembled as part of the restoration process and reassembled in SE form, but that it was duplicated first, and there are IP and separation masters too. From my understanding the Star Wars negative has always been in bad shape as a bit of a victim of its time. The film was more susceptible to deterioration and it was handled poorly in the 70s.

Would it be Disney in charge of restoring Star Wars material or Lucasfilm? If it’s the latter then I’m not sure that what Gluck says would even matter. That, and we don’t even know what question he was answering. Better to just reserve all expectations until April rather than go in optimistic or pessimistic.

I agree. I don’t doubt that Gluck knows what he’s talking about, but he wouldn’t be the one to spill the beans if this is actually happening. To my knowledge he didn’t say anything about whether or not restorationists are or have been working on this stuff.

He essentially only confirmed, that the negative of Star Wars is still conformed to the SE. He mentions nothing about the scans of the SE negative or the OOT elements. In other words a digital reconstruction of the OOT can exist, or can be reconstructed, while the physical negative is still conformed to the SE, and the OOT elements are in storage.

^This
The digital bits article basically told us nothing.

There is also a reputable poster on the blu-ray forums that says he knows for a “100% fact” that Disney is in the process of or has already finished scanning at 4k every single scrap of Star Wars film in their possession.
Now, I’m sure that’s pretty standard for Disney for archival purposes, and it obviously doesn’t mean they are working on an OOT, but at least it’s something…

Can you point me towards that guy? I can’t track that down through google or the bluray forums.
