Taxi Driver commentary? (from the Criterion LD) (Released)
Time
Oh, don't get me wrong - I totally agree with the fact that the R1 Taxi Driver disc is hardly reference quality, but the need to make a commentary preservation a DVD9 just based on the visual source material is putting the cart before the horse for me.

As I say - those that want the best AV quality Taxi Driver should chase down the Superbit and buy it. For a commentary and isolated score - I think the (more than adequate) R1 image suffices IMHO.

By all means if someone wants to supply me with the Superbit - go ahead, it's just I could be waiting for it a long time whilst the finished product stagnates. Unfortunately it's happened too often on this board that the best laid projects are easily derailed by the promise of something that never comes.

Indeed - thanks for dropping by Elmo Oxygen and congrats on being the source provider !

As far as this disc goes, I don't really see the need to max out visual quality on the Superbit (which, although some were obvious step-ups from previous releases, were always the Emperor's New Clothes in my eyes as the be-all-and-end-all in AV quality etc.) and since I won't be putting the original soundtrack/dialogue of the film on this disc it will be unnecessary going DTS etc.

There's no real need for this to be Dual Layer since it's the audio tracks that are the stars. With the commentary synched (took a fair while with various areas - end of laserdisc sides ? - that knocked the subsequent remainder out by a few seconds each time) it's still only 3.8gb using the purest visual and the filtered mp3's - so with the soundtrack too (even it were PCM) - I can quite happily bring this in at a single layer with little to no compromise. For those that need the HD or Superbit experience, then by all means procure them and watch them for the film's sake

That's not to say that anyone else is welcome to try with the two audio tracks on this disc when it's released, but waiting on better sources etc. are usually the reasons why projects such as this get delayed/forgotten. No big deal like I say - but with the isolated score, this one's all ready to go !

Cheers,

Hey joltman,

I think I speak as a bit of authority on this (having created it !) that there is no second audio track on this disc for any of the items contained on it . This must just be an anomaly that your MythTV HTPC is throwing up. Certainly any of the discs that I've sent out and the ones out there on Usenet and myspleen have no second audio track for any item.

Try it on a set-top of a friend/family member etc and see

evilmouse - send me a PM (and ensure your's are switched on to get a reply !)

Got mine from The Bizzle (many thanks) with FTP Commander and it was a fantastically fast experience - so no problems here.

Are you able to connect at all Ironman ? (and welcome by the way !)

This version didn't have the DVD_ROM though, so would be very grateful if someone could host/post it. If it's not too big - I'd be happy to put it on my webspace if someone could oblige with the content.

Really looking forward to watching this one.

Alien Appendix #3: The Alien Archive (Released)

Hot damn - this is one great job that Jonno has done on the front-end of this disc and getting together all of the sources. Really impressive and definitely worth the wait once it gets out there in whichever form.

The diamond geezer that is dark_jedi will no doubt torrent once it comes along - I'll try and get one out to Jaiman Tuckuh as well so there should be a newsgroups posting too.

3 down, who knows how many to come !!

And great art it is too, klokwerk

Indeed - huge thanks to Dark_jedi for his tireless work between here and the spleen with all his kickass HD2DVD work and now this up - here it is lads and lasses should you need it, this will be well seeded for the next few weeks and then it's in the lap of the gods (if anyone out there has disc #1 already you'd be welcome to jump on the seeding of this to get it out to peeps faster !).

Indeed DarthCarr send me a PM just to touch base along with your addy and then the roll out for #3 and #4 will begin, these should be a lot easier than the last two !

Post these #1-#4 discs I'm thinking of creating a "Savini Files" to go along with the Romero files. Any interesting additions to the disc would be most welcome, I've recently had good transfers of Scream Greats from Starkiller_Streebo and cashflagg and the new Friday the 13th Disc extras disc with Savini's make-up school featurette from Daveytod, I also have the 3 home movie DVD's from Day of the Dead that I was thinking of editing into a more palatable (and briefer !) viewing experience - but anything else would be very interesting to see.

Let me know if you can help !

Cheers,
