Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

Instead I think we might have another Disney movie. "Cool" to see. Din't you see the stupid pose the bad guy makes when he ignites his weird lightsaber? like he has to make an effort to hold it? That theatricality is what is "cool" today, even if it has nothing to do with SW! (who imagines Vader being phisycally disturbe by an asset like a lightsaber?)

I love how matter-of-fact Obi-Wan and Vader are in Star Wars when they ready their swords. I mean, yeah, it was the easiest way to go about doing the effect, but it works with the storytelling and all that.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

I expected to be much more excited after watching the teaser, because that's usually how those things go. As it stands... it's decent as bait, I guess, it ticks the boxes you'd expect it to tick and that's kind of it. Not that crazy about it, frankly. So far it feels a bit... new-ish? I don't get the 'used' feel I got from the OT from what they've shown here. It's a bit shinier than that. Doesn't seem sterile, thankfully.

All in all it changed nothing for me. Which I find somewhat puzzling.

edit: Oh, yeah, and the new lightsaber does indeed look pretty stupid. If it is a hilt (and it sure looks like one for the time being) it's a terrible design choice for it to be lazers. Everything's better with lazers, I know, but adding lazers to the part that you hold your sword with is probably the only thing lazers won't improve.

Lazers!

Un biased here and cant wait for 7 8 and 9.

78 won't be out until the next century at the earliest.

Look, I hate to break it to you like this, but you probably won't make it. Sorry. I appreciate the dedication, though.

Thankfully, 9 isn't that far off, and I wouldn't necessarily cross out 8 just yet. It might still be decent, despite all the evidence that points to the opposite. In any event: it should tide us over.

Justin LaSata ... Justin LaSata ... Justin LaSata ... Justin ... LaSata ...

Well, now, lets see ... "Justin" is Bieber's first name, "la" is Spanish for "the", and "Sata" is "Satan" minus the "N" ...

Justin LaSata is Justin Bieber aka Satan himself.

Case closed.

Well... Satan or Santa. Both are a possibility in this case. So: if it's the former, we get another SE set and if it's the latter - the OUT?

Danny, you never answsered my question... out of curiosity, do you prefer the blu ray, or Harmy's? And if the former, why?

And if time permits, I'll add a second question - disregarding the picture quality, which movie do you prefer, the one on the GOUT, or the one on the blu ray?

I don't have Harmy's version and I have no interest in getting it.

Don't get me wrong.....I respect and admire what he did .....but it is not an officially sanctioned release(which is all that interests me) ......but if other fans get a kick out of watching it then all power to them.

I would just see it for what it is.....a concoction of BluRay,GOUT and 35mm stills......and having already plugged the GOUT + laserdisc rips through my projector and seeing how ugly they look......I don't see how those parts of Harmy's that are derived from those sources would hold up(no matter what manipulation he did to make them look better )......that is not his fault....he has done the best with the elements from which he has had to work with,.

AFAIK it's not just stills he's using at this point.

The new Star Wars comics - a general discussion thread

I mean, I thought Return of the Jedi established that Fett basically lived at Jabba's. Not that I ever much liked the idea, but what the hell else is he doing just chilling there in the movie?

Neither makes a whole lot of sense, but the idea of him chilling over at Jabba's hut seems much better than the alternative. I always figured he's getting paid to be there. A bodyguard, perhaps, albeit a really ineffectual one.

Naturally, the real explanation is that he was a meanie in ESB and thus needed to get defeated by a hero in RotJ, but no one bothered to think his inclusion through. That's shoddy RotJ scriptwriting for you.

Maybe he's hoping George will bid on it so that he can burn it.

Nah, he's way too busy ensuring Disney gets Ep VII right to bother with this sort of stuff.

Well, someone paid an obscene amount of money for an obscure Kenner Droids prototype action figure last summer, so that kind of insanity tends to creep into related items.

STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Easterhay said:

Yes, the bait was attractive enough but by the third episode Rebels was drenched in Disneyness. As you say, it wasn't so evident in the beginning but the franchise holders are flexing their muscles now. So, yes, their presence has increased notably.

It's always been there, regardless of whether something distracted you from noticing it or not. And it's pretty easy to get distracted when somebody does Star Wars the way it hasn't been done for such a long time.

Do the Star Wars movies contain evidence that Lucas makes it up as he goes?

Easterhay said:

What? He didn't have the whole thing mapped out from the start? Oh, no, my world has ended.

No one's written anything to that effect, though, and the topic itself is definitely worth a discussion. Which seemed to die out prior to your post. Bad day?

Easterhay said:

Oh, and one more thing. Someone referred to Gary Kurtz as a father. No he's not; he's a mother.

Ouch :D
