I picked up both yesterday but I’m not sure which I’m going to read first. I’m leaning toward Phasma right now just because Claudia Gray is a known quantity at this point and I’m curious as to how Delilah Dawson does Star Wars. Also, she said on Twitter the other day that she wanted to please people who “own 4 different versions of Episode IV”, and the fact that an insider was willing to acknowledge that there even are multiple cuts filled me with good will.

Force Friday II releases aside, I’ve been wondering lately if we’ll ever see another large-scale adventure with established characters in a book once the ST is finished. I get that they’re holding off on that kind of thing now because the movies are filling that role, but I really hope we eventually get some one-offs like Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor again instead of everything either being on a very small scale or exclusively featuring original characters.

Let me know what you think of it.

I’m betting we see something with Luke after The Last Jedi or 9. I would love an Adventures of Luke Skywalker animated series with Mark Hamill doing the voice. But I see what you mean, the stories in the books are a bit small scale, relying more on personal relationships than big battles except for the Final Aftermath book. Maybe there will be a gap between Last Jedi and 9 where we can get a good Leia farewell novel or show the war between the First Order and the Resistance.

But what you really want is a throwaway line where it doesn’t matter. Which means the whole “who are Rey’s parents?” plot might end up being “Luke and a random lady” for 95% of the audience.

What I really want is “not Luke,” but if Luke is the father, who else would be the mother other than a random lady? Unless there’s a woman on the island we don’t know about who’s been living with Luke all these years.

Leia, of course.

puts on shades

Game of Thrones has got a lot of milage off incest.

I just ordered Claudia Gray’s Leia: Princess of Alderaan. I really liked Bloodline and having another Leia-centric novel by her is cool. I might pick up Phasma depending on the reviews.

I think we can put the “contract” theory to bed, once and for all. John Landis said only a couple years ago that George himself told him that “Disney is going to put them out, as they were.” That’s quite an odd thing to make up / joke about, so I think it’s safe to take his word for it.

Less credible is that story from some guy on HTF (or whichever message board it was) about how Disney was going to restore the OOT in time for TFA, and then didn’t because they realized they needed more time to really get it right.

But the 2020 makes perfect sense from a business standpoint. It doesn’t make sense in terms of timing (the ST will be over by then and Ep9 will already be on blu-ray and 4k), but on the other hand that might give them a good release window to hype up and advertise the restoration.

Disney can put out a “Complete Skywalker Family Saga” set in 2020. I just hope they also do a OOT set for those who bought the ST on release and hate the Prequels.

Do we really know how much say Kennedy has in the matter? I’m asking honestly, by the way. I don’t doubt she has George’s wishes at heart since they’ve been very close friends and colleagues for decades. I wonder though, can she really suppress the originals if Disney wants to release them properly? She may not be our roadblock.

I think Fox is the one holding it up. They are in a pissing contest with Disney over Marvel stuff.

Spent much of this weekend catching up on comics. I don’t understand the big deal people seem to be making over the new Darth Vader series, but I liked the Star Wars/Doctor Aphra crossover arc The Screaming Citadel quite a lot. Aphra has really become one of my favorite characters overall at this point.

Also, two more comics were announced at SDCC: a Mace Windu miniseries (yawn) and an adaptation of Zahn’s Thrawn (which I’m sure will be neat, but I’d rather a new story with Thrawn and Vanto).

The new Vader series is PT era. That’s it. The Tumblr PT Justice Warriors are so thirsty they will accept anything.

What part of Shady Space UPS invading a planet for a monopoly on that planet except they may or may not already have and also this has something to do with the rise of the Empire and wait, what?

Yeah - I mean why were the blockading the planet in the first place… something about space taxes?

They apparently felt the blockade was legal “as you know our blockade is perfectly legal” - but again what do they get out of it?

It’s also implied that the blockade was a cover for invasion… but the Trade Federation clearly didn’t want anyone to know about said invasion (as they denied it in the Senate… .apparently no one took a video of the invasion with their space phone and put it up on space youtube). But again, I’m not sure what they get out of invading Naboo? Does this somehow help them resolve some dispute over taxation? But wait, they also spent a bunch of time trying to get Padme to sign a treaty legitimizing their invasion and occupation… ok, but again; what do they get out of this? Are they just looting the planet or something?

They really don’t ever explain the motivations of the Trade Federation (other than doing what Sidious tells them to for “reasons”) in the films.

I think the reason for the invasion was to show how Valorum’s government was weak and allowed the Federation to boss them around and therefore he needed to be removed so Palpatine could rise to power.

My first thought was that it could even be Legacy. Mike has been in contact with members of the original crew, so I could see how that could happen.

I thought if even a second of Legacy got out Disney would smite him.

God I hate the Special Edtions even more with each passing day. Especially when I have to see kids get introduced to Star Wars via them.

When Did The Star Wars Prequels Become Cool?

ATMachine said:

Being able to watch a movie in black-and-white is no mark of bad taste in films. Quite the contrary.

What would you say about people who watched movies that are… can you imagine it… silent?

The people who really like the Prequels are also ones who wouldn’t watch a movie because it was in monochrome is what I think he meant.

I love silent movies. Metropolis, Nosferatu, Modern Times, Caligari, Broken Blossoms, the Toll of the Sea, Phantom of the Opera, the list goes on and on.

Bought some groceries at Target, and passed through the toy aisle, and what should I see? That action figure two pack with Moroff! Only one on the pegs, and sitting right in front like it was waiting for me. Impulse buy! Haven’t bought a SW figure in a long time.

Awesome. I’ve never had a Star Wars shirt or toy, but I feel like I’ll be correcting that in the coming weeks. I have my Rogue One socks as my only wearable Star Wars things ever, but I feel like I’m this close to getting a shirt.

Around the release of TFA, my parents kept buying me Star Wars shirts. My mom loves her JC Penny coupons, lol. I ended up with like a dozen which is really strange.
