4K restoration on Star Wars

Does anyone in the world actually care about the Avatar sequel? The opinions of everyone I know range from “huh?” To “meh.”

I would love for it to bomb bad and Fox to lose a shit ton of money.

As I’ve said before, I remember the meal I had when seeing the movie better than anything in the movie. They were some good chicken strips.

Are The Prequels That Bad?

I wouldn’t hate the prequels at all if they weren’t part of the reason for the constant changes to the OT, however. At worst, I’d probably be indifferent to them.

This. The constant addition of the worst Prequel elements into the movies I love and the suppression of the original cuts had added to my Prequel hate. There are plenty of mediocre CGI heavy sci-fi movies out there and that’s all the PT is really.

I beat Super Star Wars today. The last part is a Mode 7 nightmare. The other two though, way too unforgiving.

Super Star Wars is the worst for me: the double jump is mapped crappy to the buttons. Up + jump. In Super Empire and Jedi its jump + jump which makes it much easier to do. Also the lightsaber is crappy and you don’t get the cool death spin you get in the later games.

I agree with all of this but it’s still a good game even if it’s not as good as the other two.

I hope I wasn’t suggesting it wasn’t good. It was. I always preferred Jedi though, you got to be Princess Leia and Wicket.

Also Lucas hasn’t made a solid ending to a SW film since Empire. What’s sad is that I don’t even know all the specifics of what Lucas contributed to the ending of Empire so I wouldn’t be so quick to give him that type of props.

I dislike AOTC, but I think it had a solid ending. The war begins and we see the massive army ready to ship out to the front lines and Anakin and Padme sneak away for a forbidden wedding and whatever pleasure they can get in a galaxy about to be torn apart by war. Of course it looks terrible and you have to forget the last 2 hours.

In general the ending was competent, but everything that preceded the ending was garbage and endings are built upon the foundations of a story. Not even one person at the end continued to question the suspect nature surrounding the Clone Army and that tarnished the whole thing for me.

I haven’t watched the Prequels in at least 6 years so its all faded a bit for me.

The Clone Wars is far superior anyway. I didn’t watch it in broadcast order but the Chronological Story one.
Episode IX will be a worthy addition to my movie ticket stub collection. IDGAF if Abrams is returning but it woulda been nice if different director.

I caught the Clone Wars when Netflix gave me a free trial month. I like some arcs, didn’t like others. Mandalore and the Darksaber was cool, Maul’s resurrection worked better than it had any right to and I’m probably the only one who didn’t care for the Mortis stuff.

As for Abrams, they were in a tight spot and he did deliver a 2 billion dollar movie for them. Carrie Fisher’s death was so unexpected that it put the plans into a tailspin and Collin wasn’t able to overcome it. Rian Johnson is probably exhausted and rightly didn’t want to go back in and do another one, though him taking a look at the script for 9 would be a good thing.

Star Wars Video Games - a general Random Thoughts thread

So.

I was randomly thinking about how back in the day, Lucasarts would produce a lot of videogames that were essentially spinoffs or reworkings of the movies - but there were always a lot of direct tie-ins from Super Star Wars to The Clone Wars movie game. The former is now defunct of course and they took 1313 with them, but where are all the other random titles outside Lego and Battlefront? Factor 5 is also dead too I guess. But I’d probably play a random action title just called The Force Awakens.

Where’s my generic TFA arcade space shooter or third person action adventure with combo force powers and bad voice acting?

I would love a retro-styled Super The Force Awakens.

I would love Kasden to do a polish on his script, but Han Solo delays are probably taking up his time. Rian taking a look wouldn’t go amiss either. But I loved TFA and his characters were great, and that’s what I’m interested in. What is the resolution of these characters. Also, there will be no stupid Prequel shit, because JJ ignores them so if Rian doesn’t fail me no ghost Hayden to ruin things!

Star Wars Episode IX (was) to be directed by Colin Trevorrow - DUEL OF THE FATES RIP

And it took them two years to figure this out?

They apparently shot an entire movie before realizing the Solo directors weren’t very good.

I wonder if doing that and the relative non-caring by the media made Kennedy more comfortable with getting rid of Trevorrow.

Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * <strong><em>SPOILER THREAD</em></strong> *
Time

I finished Leia: Princess of Alderaan and there were a few Last Jedi hints:

  1. Crait was the sight of a Rebel Base set up by Bail Organa. The white stuff is salt over red soil.
  2. Amilyn Holdo was with Leia in the Apprentice Legislature and colors her hair a lot. She’s into astrology of different planets and is a bit loopy. It’s implied that she will join the Rebellion as she supports taking action against the Emperor is the only option left.

Does anyone besides internet geeks put that much stock in Rotten Tomatoes though? Comcast owns RT as well as Universal, so I’d take reviews there with a grain of salt. That is, if I gave a crap about RT. 😉

BOH will probably break even once it hits home video, streaming and cable. I’m sure Rifftrax is going to take a crack at it.

I would say studios care about RT scores, as well as audiences (they’ve become common in advertising). Not that I care all that much, but it is what it is: a review aggregator. And the general consensus was that Jurassic World was okay fun, and Book of Henry was just plain not fun at all.

Also the idea that Comcast is buying reviews there is pretty ridiculous. Who do you think made Book of Henry, after all?

Comcast DGAF about what people think. Look at their customer service reviews…

3, … 2, … 1, theories incoming…

Theory 1: Disney liked Episode 8 so much that they wanted Rian Johnson as the director of Episode 9 as well.

Theory 2: They liked how Ron Howard turned the Han Solo movie and wanted him to direct a star wars movie from the beginning.

Ron Howard doesn’t have enough time to get Han Solo finished and do 9. I’m still expecting Han Solo to move to 12/18 and 9 to go to 12/19 because that’s done very well for Disney so far.

I’m guessing Carrie’s passing put a lot of pressure on Colin and his failure this year only exasperated the situation. Also Jurassic World was a decent popcorn flick (though Chris Pratt kept his shirt on when he could have gone open vest only for the final act), but I expect more from what could very well be the finale of the Skywalker Saga.

Rian Johnson doing Last Jedi and 9? I will save my final judgement for Dec, but I would tentatively be ok with that. The cast love him, Lucasfilm and Disney execs love him and the movie looks great.

Ranking the Star Wars films
Time

My rankings

  1. Star Wars
  2. The Empire Strikes Back
  3. Return of the Jedi
  4. The Force Awakens.
  5. Rogue One

I love all those and would watch them any day. In fact, I have a hard time picking which ones I like the best out of the OT because I consider it one big story.

  1. ROTS
  2. The Clone Wars film
  3. TPM
  4. AOTC

I haven’t watched these in a while. Probably won’t for a long time. I have 5, soon to be 6 great Star Wars movies, why bother trying to enjoy the crap?

Extreme Prequel Plot Holes And Inconsistencies

It always seemed to me that twist was meant to cash-in with Vader’s own revelation, and on its downside it shrunk that universe further. However, it’s not enough to ruin the movie for me, as the payoff to that sisterhood is Luke’s brief taste of the Dark Side, which is one the better scenes in the trilogy. The progression of the Skywalker/Vader narrative, while bumpy still managed to provide a satisfiying whole despite its improvised nature.

It feels to me like Lucas was tired, didn’t want to do any more Star Wars movies and having Leia be the sister wrapped up the triangle with Han easily and explained Yoda’s “other” comment.

What makes it work is Mark Hamill’s performance and him taking the material seriously and not sending it up at all.
