Who are the two in grey uniforms next to Sheridan and Delenn? Look a bit anime?

The Red and Silver Rangers from Power Rangers in Space.

The three next to Kirk and Spock and Kaylee, Mal and Wash from Firefly.

Edit: The three next to Starbuck and Apollo are Jenna, Blake and either Avon or Villa from Blake’s 7.

I find the idea of video posters really weird but to each their own.

Video rental stores back in the 80’s were often hip deep in them. And the turnover was so high, they would toss a bunch out every few weeks. As they usually were very similar to theatrical posters, it was a way to get a poster from your favorite movie. (If you were a regular customer, and asked nicely.) Some theaters were kind of stingy about giving away posters, claiming they were “studio property” and had to be sent back with the film. (The ones that were real dicks threw them out anyway.) I can’t imagine buying a real movie poster was that easy before Ebay, unless you lived near Hollywood, where memorabilia shops selling such items are common, or went to a convention.

I got a bunch of video posters to cover an ugly blank wall in the editing bay back in college. The room had all the charm of a cell block, and a video poster for the horror flick Prison was my idea of a joke. Was really pissed when someone decided to yank them down, and toss them without even asking me if I wanted them back.

I have one for Moroder’s Metropolis.

It’s the 40th Anniversary of the original movie and yet we still can’t watch it in an official release approaching modern quality.

The longer they wait, the more clear it will become that they are throwing away money. Harmy’s version gets more and more downloads with each passing day.

This last part is more trivial, but Rian Johnson did slam the SE on his twitter back when the blu-ray was first released.

Even GL showing up wouldn’t kill any remaining possibility of an OOT announcement for me. We already know there’s been a 4k master of the OT-SE for almost three years now. It’s not like the OOT would be in superior quality to that. Most of all, it’s not GL’s money being spent anymore. That’s the entire reason we got the GOUT in the first place instead of something better. He has no reason to care anymore.

Both Manos and Turkish Star Wars have restorations before The Star Wars Trilogy. This is so sad.

Does anyone remember this kind of thing? I didn’t seem that weird at the time. What were they smoking…

Oh god I had that toy…

The mid 90’s saw some strange ideas come out of Kenner.

At least the old Mini Rigs back in the 80’s looked like something that was just “off camera” in the OT. In Kenner’s defense, they did follow up with more sensible things like a Hoth Rebel soldier with a laser cannon, and the Probe Droid.

Is that Mark Hamill doing the commercial voiceover?

  1. Tarkin is so close to looking real, it almost throws the whole illusion off

It was amazing what they pulled off with CG Tarkin, but I was always focusing on the CGIness whenever Tarkin was on.

Same here for the first couple of times I saw Tarkin up on the screen - as a bit of a fan of the old Hammer Horror era films with Peter Cushing et al, it somewhat pulled me out of the film to look to see how they did it, how real (or not) he looked, how it worked best (dimly lit shots for me - and I think a really good reflection shot) etc.

Took me a few watches to just watch it for what it was - a pretty good attempt at it, and a near spot-on portrayal from Guy Henry.

I think I’ve said this before, but As a fellow HAMMER fan, I think you might agree;
I couldn’t and don’t believe this being Peter Cushing, but I did and do buy it being the character of Tarkin.

Tarkin Lives!

I wish this was the tag line for ESB! I like that his hubris takes him down with the ship so to speak, but he’s my favorite Star Wars villain and I’d love it if he could have made it through to RotJ.

It sounds like something Marvel would have done back in the day. They did do a storyline between ESB and ROTJ, where Luke and company have a to sabotage a new battle station named The Tarkin before it’s operational. In retrospect, I’m surprised Lucasfilm didn’t object to that, unless they borrowed the idea. 😉

Marvel wanted to do another Death Star, but Lucasfilm obviously rejected the idea. The Tarkin was a back up plan.

How do you know they didn’t choose that number randomly, and you’re the one with the dirty mind? 😉

The more I think about it, the more I think Hayden is going for the money. He’s getting six figures for a weekend and his autograph/photo ops had a set number available. Its a good gig and he can work it to make a bunch of money for relatively little effort by doing more cons. If he has sense to be really nice and warm to the fans.

How do you know he’s making 6 figures? He seems to have really shied away from Hollywood since doing the prequels. I’m surprised he’s even agreeing to the show. I did very much enjoy him in Shattered Glass and Life As A House.

Hayden’s getting at least 100K for this event, possibly more like 250K. He’s at least Matt Smith level nerd-royalty.

I highly doubt that if they announce it that they would boast all the individual reversions on stage. And they wouldn’t be removing him from the movie anyway. If it’s released, the OUT will be presented as bonus material or an alternate cut. And it’s not like Hayden actually performed in ROTJ. More like George abused his likeness. Didn’t he just swap the heads?

Yeah it was a headswap from a ROTS outtake.

^ Those comments… I think I’m gonna be sick…

Don’t worry, they’re all from LFL bots.

No, there is a section of fandom I like to call idiot Hayden fangirls. The ones who obsess over his “tragic” romance with Padme and write slash about him and Obi-Wan. This is why I hate humanity.

There’s a certain type of fangirl that is drawn to horrible people. There are fangirls for the Columbine shooters, the Boston Bombers, and even Ted Bundy.

I was more thinking of the ones drawn to sci-fi/fantasy via Twilight, The Hunger Games and their derivatives. They pretty much ruined Doctor Who in the US and the rumor of a YA romantic Star Wars film gives me chills they will come here.

I don’t see how the panel being about the franchise and not the movie has anything to do with whether or not they will release the OOT.

I’m hoping Hayden just needs some of that lucrative autograph/photo op money. Now that I think of it, wasn’t he upset Lucas put his face in Jedi without his knowledge? I’m ok with him going to the con- as long as he isn’t in The Last Jedi.
